What a wonderful tour. My grandmother knew Ruth Audley Beltzhoover and said that she was a great lady.

I toured this home in 1990s. An older lady was so funny. When John Ford came to town to look at sites to film the movie, The Horse Soldiers. He wanted authentic-looking uniforms and was told that Green Leaves had some originals. But the matriarch said no to John Ford on borrowing the uniforms for the costume designer. Finally, Ford sent John Wayne. JW heard the old matriarch enjoyed an afternoon toddy. So he brought some sort of liquor and he hey visited all afternoon. An interviewer once asked John Wayne if anyone had ever drunk him under the table. JW said that the only person who did was a little old southern lady in Natchez, MS. I can’t remember if Ford got to see the uniforms or not because I love that a little old Southern lady held her liquor before him!

It is well taken care of, but it still has that family lived in feel. It is amazing that the original family still owns this house. Which to me, makes it a historical, living, family tree. Just the stories she has told here tells a history. She is so charming and gracious. Thank her from all of us, for allowing us in to her home.

Green Leaves is one of my favorite houses in Natchez. I have toured it many times over the years, and I learn something new each time I visit. This video doesn't even begin to cover all of the history and family memorabilia. It is an incredible chapter of Natchez history, and so well-preserved. A must see while visiting Natchez during Pilgrimage.

By the time I was 11 we moved about 40 times and lived in 2 different countries back and forth. To have all the family belongings is absolutely amazing!!! It's BEAUTIFUL! Keep bringing videos like these.

    It has been a privilege.
I'm an admirer of the architecture.
The sleeping areas designed particularly sub ground level.
    Fabulous.
Can you imagine being commissioned to build an estate in the deep South, before central air or swamp coolers(?)😮
What beautiful condition this magnificent treasure has been maintained.
I want to hear more about original lighting, plumbing, and the architects information.
Greenleaf is on my must see list.
    Sincerely, Thank You.

This really is a time capsule, and the documentation they've accumulated is impressive. So many Americans have lost their family treasures and histories along with their homes. Many of us have too much 'old stuff', but hope to keep the most memorable. In the cabinet at 5:40 there is a ceramic figurines of a little boy in a blue sailor suit on the left of the top shelf. I have one very much like it, that was part of a set from my father's childhood in the 1930s. The set had four little sailors, four soldiers, and four little pilots with WWI style helmets, goggles, and scarves. The true pleasure in learning about the Koontz family history is knowing there is another generation waiting to take over stewardship of this home.

Now, this is a true historic house! What an outstanding domicile of multi-generational antiquities and historical collections from actual residents, along with familial living archives! Wow! I could spend hours in this house because so much of its past is there.
This time, L&K, I ignored that man in the mirror and china cabinet glass door as per your previous suggestion. 😂😂 I really enjoyed this tour. What a treat to have been afforded the opportunity to tour Green Leaves in this video. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. My partner and I just bought our 2nd. Greek Revival. The 15-bedroom home, known as The Brady House (not that Brady house) LOL, was built in 1827. Our first, an 11-bedroom home was built in 1947, which we painstakingly restored and then sold. The Brady House is a keeper. When we first saw the ad for it, my partner said, "The Realtor really knows how to hype a house". It really was the gem of rare beauty depicted by the Realtor, despite its current state. We learned so much from our first purchase, and now we find ourselves starting all over again, facing new challenges and learning new things -- a never-ending journey of discovery. "What did we just walk into?" was my first question of this much older home steeped in history. We stumped Google with some our questions lol. Listening to your narrative of Green Leaves gave us some good pointers. Thank you for sharing this wonderful and enlightening tour.

Oh, that beautifully ancient live oak in the garden is magnificent! I hope they are able to keep it going for many more years to come. I'm so happy the original builders didn't cut it down and chose to build around this amazing creation of God and nature.
Original wallpaper, fauxbois, seven generations, original carpeting in the parlors, a bullet hole in the original glass above the front door, what a true treasure to behold!
The china on display is outstanding. To have such a beautiful set displayed in its entirety is just lovely. I'd be afraid to eat off of it for fear of damaging it in some manner. Also love the cane chairs in the dining room in such great condition for their age is incredible.
