Great video. I’m a couple years late but for anyone needing to replace a pump or a tank, like me, this is very helpful. One tip that I figured out is that you can reach the electric clip and fuel line through driver side wheel well before dropping tank. Also, once your hoses are disconnected, drop the tank a couple inches and push to passenger side. The filler neck will clear frame and body just remember to cut the zip tie for your vent hose. This allowed me to drop the entire tank, swap everything over to new tank and reinstall. Just fyi I have a 1998 tj 4.0 76k miles. I had to modify my exhaust after 4 years of sitting up, cat was plugged. One of my exhaust clamps was loose allowing the tailpipe to rotate melting a hole in my tank which is why i replaced it. Silly mistake on my part but I’m a RUclips mechanic and after many hours of work getting the Jeep to run and put back together I missed an exhaust clamp.. burning a hole in the tank on my first long trip. Other than that it ran great.
Haven't done a fuel pump since my '98 XJ and I've got to replace my TJ so I can get emissions done. Great video for a refresher; short, sweet, and to the point with everything covered!
Rode my 2006 65th anniversary edition around the other day got to my house and cleaned it went to start it back up and it wouldn’t turned the key went to my gas tank and didn’t hear the pump running ordered one and picking it up this morning thanks for the video gonna make it a whole lot easier!
Hey your happy you got your Jeep before prices went up! I am after buying my LJ. Thanks for the video and thanks for stating OEM is not available anymore I was looking for one
I replaced my pump on a 2001 tj cause the gauge wasn't working..after all that it still doesnt work. any ideas where to start. dash diagnostics process is good. all the gauges move as they should jeep runs great
2" body lift and no rear bumper... you're cheating! Just kidding. Thanks for sharing, I have an identical '04 solar yellow rubicon that's getting a new fuel pump installed tomorrow, and this is exactly the video I was looking for to reference.
Great video, will this remedy my check valve issue? If the TJ sits for more than say 10 minutes, it takes 3 cranks to get it started...if it's been running and off for a short time, starts RIGHT up.
usually when it starts doing that you just change the fuel pump.. to start.. on my tj there is no way to check fuel pressure on the fuel rail easily.. i dont know what you mean by "check valve" issue
Replacing your fuel pump is a pain...unless...While you have your tank out, cut you a trap door in the floor in the rear, be sure it's centered over the fuel pump and its big enough to get a hand (or two) to all connections.. weld a steel lip around the bottom of the trap door and if you want to hinge it or not..up to you...In the future just have have to roll your rear seat up and pull the trap door to replace your pump, I used 1/4" steel plate and cut it pretty snug for the trap door...no rattle at all as the 1/4 plate is heavy enough I did make a little slit so I could use a flat head screw driver to open the door and I hinged it toward the front since I have an LJ and put in 31.5 gallon tank when I didn't this.
Hey any advice on how to remove fuel with tank in place? I couldn’t get a tube to go down filler neck more than a foot or so Just got a 2001 wrangler sport that sat for 3 yrs. Has a little less than half a tank of old gas. I’d like to remove it b4 I try starting her. Thx Sir
you might have to drop it full.. they aren’t that big so just use a jack of some sort and you should be good. I just got done doing an 80 gallon tank that was half full .. and I’ve dropped many tanks full of gas..
@@chriscraft77022 Do you recommend I change the fuel tank if I have to drop it to remove the gas. I’m not sure if the fuel pump works or not so I figured why not replace the tank with the pump if I had to drop it. Thank you
Didn’t mention the first rollover valve that you disconnected which is Bigger than the other rollover valve. So when you bust the clips. Good luck finding the sizes.
1999 Jeep Wrangler TJ. Just had my fuel pump replaced and now my fuel gauge says tank is full at 15 gallons, even though it has a 19 gallon tank. Any thoughts on what needs to be fixed? My mechanic is a jerkhole with crazy attitude and is wanting to potentially charge me again to go back in and fix.
@@chriscraft77022Before this was an issue and the gauge worked perfectly, the second the red fuel warning light went on I would clear the tripometer and then I knew I had @ 40-45 more miles I could drive before I emptied the tank. Now, since the new fuel pump install, it reads empty prematurely, but I suspect I still have the usual 19 gallons of gas in the tank after filling. So the gauge tells me I’m on empty when really I still have 2-3 gallons left in there. I think. (Verses 1/2 gallon before, when I would drive it all the way to empty. I would just love it to work so I do t have to do math and worry about it every time I drive.
Very good video. I just broke all the 7 bolts...all is good to Go now. Ordering the fuel pump assembly now and should be getting it by Friday.....how is that brand pump you got?
I suffering from fuel injector failure about every 3 months or so and I'm wondering if my metal fuel tank could be the cause. Its a 1990 Jeep Cherokee. I had the fuel pump and filter changed when I bought it about a year ago. But this thing has been killing fuel injectors. At least that is what the mechanics keep saying because it bucks once I hit 35MPH. The plugs, spark wires have recently been changed and double checked. I'm not mechanic but I'm wondering since the Jeep sat for 2-3 years before I bought it that it has rust inside it and bits are making it to the fuel injectors and clogging them up. Regardless, dude your videos are amazing. I have been watching your electrical wiring videos. I love them. Thank you for taking the time to make good content.
You could have rotten fuel in the tank that has coagulated if it has sat for 3 years and if you never flushed/cleaned the tank out. That will definitely clog injectors.
Hello, your video is great, it has been very helpful to us, I have the same car with the same problem, but my supplier cannot find the reference of the pump, could you give me the reference of delphi. Thank yo
One of the best edited videos on RUclips! No bullshit rambling or babbling and to the point! Very informative! Thanks bro!
Does the fuel tank .Have to be empty in order to change fuel filter?
@@jake-br1db no, it doesn't. But it would make for a less messy/easier install.
No phony baloney, no cussing and no BS. Just the facts and it looked like all of them. That's a great video, one of the best I've seen.
Great job.

Sweet G van back there.
There's an arrow on the retaining ring. Line that up with the 2 marks on the tank. It goes right on.

The tank is just holding by skid plate or the tank itself is bolt on?
After the clip was broken...you replace it?
Thanks for a straight to the point video. Quick Question: how did you fix the clip that you broke? I am assuming you buy replacements?
they sell them at oreilly for like $5
I got the same Jeep went to do the same thing and my return line was eaten by rodents. What is the part that the return line comes from

your concern should be where on the gauge the Jeep runs out of gas with the new sender
