I enjoyed the level design's reuse of areas because it allowed the player to get familiar with how to approach enemies in addition to becoming immersed in the universe by walking through forerunner architecture.
For me it's the sheer amount of time it takes to do it without using any tricks or exploits, coming off the back of a mission that took me maybe 20-30 on legendary, this monster took me 2+ hours to figure out.
just finished that level on legendary and i killed 90 elite's, 20 hunters, 100 ish jackal's, 10 ghost's, 6 banshee's, I think 8 wraiths and exactly 254 grunt's. That was one hell of a slog took me an hour and a half.
I played this on normal and it took me a solid 2 or so hours to finish. Mind you, I haven't played the original Halo for over 15 years and only got to try this again recently with the MC Collection.
If I remember correctly, you can actually see a pelican arrive and pick them up. I don't remember if you have to just wait, or if you have to move around and advance and backtrack a little, but there is a way to do it. I used to spend hours as a kid trying to trigger it, because I always kept them alive and I wanted to see them get home safe
@@timo9533 The novel First Strike (which takes place immediately after Halo CE and right before Halo 2) revealed there were some survivors from the aftermath.
I actually can't wait to see 343 Guilty Spark and Two Betrayals. In fact I think Two Betrayals is going to be very interesting. I still find it to be the toughest CE level, much tougher than The Library in my opinion.
Great to watch you play one of the most replayable games of history ! Fyi, the plasma pistol charge shot glitch was not only in MCC, but also in the CEA for 360
Ben DarthDakka No... CE scorpion is awful. Its so inacurate. When you are at that outside part at 13:16 you have to sit back from far and take out everything that way. Unless you charge in and get close you arent always garunteed you will hit your target every shot. It results in you losing so much health or just dying
I never bothered using the assault rifle against the covenant on legendary. I had a lot more success with the plasma rifle as my primary weapon ; and then a pistol as my sidearm. As far as trying to keep the marines alive on legendary ; I learned the hard way, don't bother. They're as good as dead anyway.
Raving Libertopian I actually despise the CE plasma rifle almost never used it and stuck to AR for close quarters missions in the first half, Plamsa Pistol for long range, and shotgun for the second half.
I did this challenge after watching your first one and I had to replay this whole mission three times. I got to chill for a few minutes and listen to Siege of Madrigal.
I finished halo 2’s legendary. I’m working on halo one now, and going from hardest to easiest. Next, I’m doing halo 4, then halo 3, then halo 3: ODST, then Halo 5
Like you said, the different perspective and encounters make it so that going back through the same level doesn't come off as repetitive. In fact, I'll freely admit that I actually didn't figure out that Two Betrayals was Assault on the Control Room only backwards and at night until a few years after first playing it.
Always loved this level cause it is so generous. They give you along the ride almost everything, it's like a buffet. You get the warthog, sniper rifle, the rocket launcher and the first tank.
I loved taking a ghost to the final door. If you timed it just right, the ghost would run over the Chief at the beginning of the cutscene and cause all kinds of glitches when Chief plugs Cortana into the control panel.
47:39 i always just walked up that tall narrow ramp thing and sniped everyone from up top, while also going all the way to the top. Don't know if anyone else did this.
Act man a tip I use is I will switch to the weapon I have with a wider crosshairs to stick enemies. For example, I have a pistol and an assault rifle. I’ll switch to the AR then throw the plasma grenade
This was probably my favorite level when I first played the game. I liked the challenge of leaving behind the scorpion and going on foot while you keep your marines alive until you meet up with the last group of them. You should have 11 or 12 marines at that point and then can take them all for a final big charge
Smart move with the marines. Just cracked the game out again cause it’s a classic. This is probably my favorite level too. I couldn’t believe I was actually able to get 2 marines onto the scorpion (on legendary of course). Whether or not they survived the whole way is a different story.
I actually always fight through the last circular room, kill all the jackals and grunts in the hallway, then go back and get the camo and get the banshee. I always found it to be the best way to get through that area.
I have found on normal difficulty you don’t appreciate what’s happening in the game. For example the music is over before it starts sometimes because you run through the areas so fast and obviously is a lot easier also. So legendary is definitely the way to play I think
idky it bothered me so much, but when you didnt just use the Warthog turret to kill that ghost in the first outside section. i cringed. i watch all ur videos, and im glad to see another dude wgo really knows and respects these games for everything they are and everything they accomplished
You can actually clear most (if not all) of the rooms on this level without being detected by the enemies (if you play super stealthily). You have to be patient and sneak up behind the jackal/elite patrols, which involves a lot of crouching and hiding. I've never seen anyone do it in a video, sadly (it was tough here because of the iron skull, it's easier if you can reload checkpoints ofc)
Dr. Gonzo Yes I was just looking for a RUclips videos today of people playing like this but couldn’t find anything. I would like to see someone go through all missions trying to get as many stealth melee kills as possible but that is pretty difficult because of the ai. Plus there is no silenced weapons or anything like that. I think I’m some situations in certain levels stealth is impossible because of the spawns but it is certainly more viable than most players think. Or they simply chose to run in guns blazing most of the time because it is easier and/or more fun for them. I have tried to clear entire runs on this level the, first time I played this campaign, without alerting the enemies and after many attempts I’ve had some success managing to take out several grunts, jackals and a few elites. Eventually after going back to checkpoint several I however lose my patience and kill the rest in a firefight.
I figured out how to rapid shot the same way the jackals do in this game. Its the same method we used to use in the arcade shooter games like time crisis 2 or house of the dead
hold the controller like a gun with your finger off the trigger, then use your other hand to rapidly press the right trigger. It will be difficult to move around and it may be difficult to do correctly at first, but soon enough you will be jizzing plasma all over the covenant ;)
Ce only bothered me in two ways. First, there's only 3 covenant weapons, but that's just my own opinion. Second, you can't pick up the energy sword or the fuelrod canon😅
Doing this challenge and beat Silent Cartographer without dying. Thought I would try AOTCR just to do a practice run and see how far I could make it and 2 hours later I made it all the way without dying! This challenge is difficult but definitely doable. Very nervous about Two Betrayals though
It never bothered me that bungie recycled parts of levels. Not only was it 2001 and they needed to save resources but it also made sense. You go into somewhere as chief to do something it only makes sense to turn around and go back the way you came. Sure a cutscene could work but it would shorten the game. Halo CE is a timeless classic and it always will be. I’d prefer recycled areas much more then a cutscene
Act man u know u can actually take the ghost to the top of the tower thing that leads to the control room, right? Very useful for clearing out the huge wave of enemies that spawn when u open the door.
29:05 here I just jumped onto the glass and onto the other bridge, threw a plasma grenade so it stuck on one of the invisible elites so both of them died then I got a checkpoint
btw to answer your question at 3:30 . I never bothered the repetition in HALO: CE since every encounter are different and HALO: CE have this way of making the halo ring feel so big and mysterious and you are walking down theses big forerunner facilities I've always found that it add consistency to the architecture. I think the sleeping grunt are adorable.
