lived in MN my whole life, never have tried lutefisk and my mom is norwegian..i however make tator tot hot dish once a week in the winter and yes my grandmas always bring jello salad for christmas lol
I am from Minnesota and I would like to state now that I have never once eaten lutefisk nor will I ever eat lutefisk. I hear it's an acquired taste that quite simply I don't wish to acquire. Props to bow-tie guy for eating two more bites of it though.I'm glad to see you put some of the good stuff in like Tator-Tot Hotdish and our Juicy-Lucies, but you missed church basement potatoes. Come on. And you could have at least let them wash down the lutefisk with one of our amazing micro-brews.
I thought my wife's family was the only ones to make spam and rice, I had never heard of it before moving here and until now didn't realize anyone else made it :P Also, I love spam and rice!
Why oh why is lutefisk on here? No one even wants to go near that stuff, just the look of it makes us gag. It's usually consumed by those who are very true to their Norwegian heritage....or are just crazy as hell. So lutefisk being a favorite for Minnesotans couldn't be further from the truth.
Couldn't agree more. It is only produced and consumed by people that have a screw loose. Having lived here my entire life, I've only known one person that liked it...
All of them were great....except lutefisk. As a Minnesotan lifer with a fresh off the boat Danish mom I have never eaten lutefisk and my mom never ate it either. I think its a novelty item that is brought to scandinavian festivities that nobody actually eats anymore or did at all.
K it's spelled "jucy lucy." Yes I know that's incorrect from a dictionary standpoint. But that's how it has ALWAYS appeared on the Matt's Bar menu. Deal.
"They probably put razors in it like all the other creeps." His eyes afterwards! Also, I was surprised that the guy with the bow tie seemed to like the lutefisk. It actually surprised me that they liked most of the foods.
I'm from Minnesota, born and raised, and out of all these I've only had the Tater Tot Hotdish (which it tastes SO good) and the jello salad (I hate it), and I really want to try a Juicy Lucy, but I loved that guys reaction to the Juicy Lucy at first, "You guys are like right next to Wisconsin, why is there no cheese?" 😂
Minnesota born and raised and everything in this video is good my favorite is tatertot hotdish wish I could have been there to explain the meaning of it ... it was basically a cold winter night and barley any food in the house and we threw everything in a dish and ate it and it's also eaten with ketchup and the juicy lucy has cheese inside is because we live near wisconsin and we're mostly vikings fans so we don't like packers
1:20 - That is the sound made by every Minnesotan child forced to endure that disgusting fish known as lutefisk.... but at least ours was hot and we had butter.... lots of butter.
Movoto Originals at 4:39, that reminded me that I had a Nut Goodie in a gift bag I received for Christmas...seriously...I'm going to eat it now! :) BTW, I am born and raised in MN and I've never tried lutefisk...I'm not crazy!
Lutefisk isn't even that common. You have it maybe once a year, and that's if you have Norwegian relatives. Nobody really goes near that stuff. Now Wild Rice soup.hotdish, that's where it's at. Should have put that in there. Oh, and Goulash.
Minnesota born and raised. My mom made Lutefisk like once a week, and I LOVED it, especially doused in butter. Haven't ate it since I found out it was cod soaked in fucking LYE for like 4 months then rinsed off to get the death particles off it.
this video was hilarious! i'm from Cali and would try everything except the Lutefish. Yuck! Movoto is AWESOME! I would love to see more of these videos...More Please!
I was born in the west coast but raised in Minnesota my entire life. I've never had anything they mentioned in this video except the Juicy Lucy & Nut Goodies lol. This was funny to watch tho.
I can't say I'd ever had Lutefisk when I lived in Minnesota, but I've certainly had minor variations on all the others here. It's actually very warming to see the reactions. The burger's name is a new one me, I thought they were just stuffed burgers. I would have thought sone dish with wild rice would have been part of this, or just rice in general. Or for that matter fried cheese curd which I still crave from time to time.
Spent 3 summers at summer camp in Minnesota, and I grew to love tater tot hotdish. As a matter of fact, I just made myself some :) Comfort food to the inth degree.
1. even though I live in Minnesota, I don't like the first food either... It just doesn't mix. 2. What is that even? And wait, I find this offensive, it's like a bunch of minnesotans sunburned and their peeling skin. What!? 3. Tater tot hot dish is delicious 4. Isn't that just considered for like, all Americans? 5. To be honest, I thought those were everywhere in the U.S :P 6. Um... In general I don't like jello (god dang I can't spell that) never heard of the fish, I like tater tot hot dish, cheese in the middle of a burger I guess it would taste good, and the nut goodies are good, to be honest I don't get some of their responses... >.
Lutefisk is kinda a dyeing tradition. Not a lot of people understand that lutefisk isn't always eaten alone, even older people back in the day didn't eat it alone. Put some sore cream on it or some lemon on it and choke that stuff down. No, i like it though. These dishes make me a Minnesotan and I'm proud to say i enjoy them. Most of them seemed like picky eaters.
Ah, Lutefisk. At my high school they would have Lutefisk dinners in the evening and the next morning you would smell it all over the school. That and the sauerkraut smell as you walk into the school at 8 in the morning is not the fondest memory. It's like fish-flavored jello. Seriously. Smells bad, but the taste is very mild. Not pleasant though (at least not to me). It's survival food. They took the dried herring fillets and soaked them in lye (YES, that's right. Still done. Breaks down the fibers of the meat to make it not taste like rubber), then rinse them with cold water thoroughly and cook. Usually served with butter. It's a good thing to try out of curiosity for the historical practices of other cultures, but other than that, meh.
Im from Minnesota... if it makes it any better, even Minnesotans don't eat lutafisk, unless your weird. and yes tator tot hotdish is awesome and if you have never had a juicy lucy... get one!!! or find out how to make them.
Seriously Lutefisk is not that bad, if you want to eat some fish only a viking could stomach try some hakarl (ice shark), the fish is poisonous when eaten fresh so instead it is left to putrefy (rot) for 6 weeks, literally fermenting, and then cut and hung out to dry for another 4 months. Ancestral food is the best. :)
I've lived in Minnesota my whole life (22 years) and I have never once had a Juicy Lucy, or a Nut Goodie. I have never ever seen anyone eat Lutefisk, let alone try it myself.
I always assumed Lutefisk was a joke or a threat (you better behave or we'll make you eat Lutefisk!) - until I found out my cousins actually go to Lutefisk feeds. Minnesotan proud - never gonna touch the stuff.
I'm going to pretend you did not just call us Minnesotians
They forgot the wild rice and walleye. Lol.
Born and raised in Minnesota and still never had Lutefisk
It has a mild flavor with a bitter finish, the strong smell comes from the way in which its preserved.
Me neither. I think it's a generational thing. My grandparents probably enjoyed it.
If you ever have it load that stuff with sore cream, hot sauce, lemon, butter anything you can get your hands on. Then try it.
Sore cream? LOL
I don't think I could try it because I can't get my head past the lye that is used to make it.
lived in MN my whole life, never have tried lutefisk and my mom is norwegian..i however make tator tot hot dish once a week in the winter and yes my grandmas always bring jello salad for christmas lol
We are MINNESOTAN not MINNESOTIAN
Nobody eats lutefisk in Minnesota, I'm from Minnesota and I lived there for 19 years and not once have I ever eaten lutefisk.
No wild rice? For shame!!!!!!
You forgot something made with wild rice, tuna noodle casserole and lefsa, glorified rice and Spam with au gratin potatoes from a box.
THANK YOU. Those are the only things so far that have been suggested that I've actually heard of xD
DEFINITELY should have done one thing with wild rice
I thought my wife's family was the only ones to make spam and rice, I had never heard of it before moving here and until now didn't realize anyone else made it :P
Also, I love spam and rice!
tater tot hotdish is the best food in the world.
Oh God... Even Us Minnesotans don't like lutefisk!
Considering CA has 4 times as many people as MN, there's probably more people in CA who eat lutefisk.
Couldn't agree more. It is only produced and consumed by people that have a screw loose. Having lived here my entire life, I've only known one person that liked it...
exactly
I disagree
aerie98 You disagree, and.....? why?
Jello Salad is absolutely amazing! I don't know what the heck you guys are talking about!
All of them were great....except lutefisk.
As a Minnesotan lifer with a fresh off the boat Danish mom I have never eaten lutefisk and my mom never ate it either. I think its a novelty item that is brought to scandinavian festivities that nobody actually eats anymore or did at all.
Lol no one in Minnesota eats lutefisk but where is the tapioca??? I was waiting for it, that stuff is tooooo good! And some venison
Oh yeah and no spam??? The hell
leave it to the west coast to be so dramatic about eating food
This criticism from people from from the Tofu state.....riiiiiight !
I'm from Minnesota and every year, we have lutefisk, lefsa, and jello salad for Christmas dinner.
K it's spelled "jucy lucy." Yes I know that's incorrect from a dictionary standpoint. But that's how it has ALWAYS appeared on the Matt's Bar menu. Deal.
Don't die, I don't wanna be alone with this stuff. Best quote of the video!!
I was born in Minn but my mom never made me eat it. Ambrosia salad was a constant at holidays. And I LOVE nut goodies!!!!!
Don't feel bad xD no one here in mn wants to eat lutefisk either. Ewww
It's mostly for the norsk amerikaner who live here
Per Wikipedia regarding Lutefisk: "The Wisconsin Employees' Right to Know Law specifically exempts lutefisk in defining "toxic substances".
1GoddessGeek Next time, we'll have our tasters sign a waiver! :)
"They probably put razors in it like all the other creeps."
His eyes afterwards!
Also, I was surprised that the guy with the bow tie seemed to like the lutefisk. It actually surprised me that they liked most of the foods.
They need Minnesota State Fair cheese curds...
Nobody here eats Lutefisk.
Lol, he said Minnesotean
Noticed that, too XD
Shane Malecha That bugged me too!

Im from Minnesota and I enjoy ALL of theese foods.. Am i the only one😂
I've never had lutefisk but other than tha😍😍😍😛
Love all of them
Everyone says lutefisk is bad, but I beg to differ. Of course I am very norwegian but it still tastes good.
If someone offers you lutefisk, they are not your friend.
These people are so rude! I respect their crappy Californian food, but god forbid, they give us respect.
Oh man, our jello salad is green too... It's got like vegetables in it
I grew up in goodhue MN and still live there... the heck is a Jucy Lucy?!?!

We've got all those in North Dakota too. The reactions are PRICELESS, hahahaha
Keep em coming. These are great!
Im Minnesotan and I love lutefisk!!! I can't believe people don't like it!!!

1:20 - That is the sound made by every Minnesotan child forced to endure that disgusting fish known as lutefisk.... but at least ours was hot and we had butter.... lots of butter.

Lutefisk isn't even that common. You have it maybe once a year, and that's if you have Norwegian relatives. Nobody really goes near that stuff.

Minnesota born and raised. My mom made Lutefisk like once a week, and I LOVED it, especially doused in butter. Haven't ate it since I found out it was cod soaked in fucking LYE for like 4 months then rinsed off to get the death particles off it.

I tried every dish here and I have to say lutefisk and jello salad are my worst nightmares.
"You guys are like right next to Wisconsin, why is there no cheese"? Ha hahahahaha xD made me laugh!
OMG. These West-Coasters :D I already saw some taste tests. So many of them have such a weak stomach!^^
this video made me hungry. Dont Cha Know.
Spent 3 summers at summer camp in Minnesota, and I grew to love tater tot hotdish. As a matter of fact, I just made myself some :) Comfort food to the inth degree.

having lived in Minnesota my whole life, I can count on one hand all the people i know who like Lutefisk.
Where's the spam???
Minnesota just makes the spam. It's the Hawaiians that are nuts for the stuff.
Where is the wild rice, Indian tacos, venison and leffse?
Minnesota born and raised never tried this accept for the jello not bad
This is cool bc i'm from minnesota born and raised
Lutefisk is kinda a dyeing tradition. Not a lot of people understand that lutefisk isn't always eaten alone, even older people back in the day didn't eat it alone. I was born and raised in Minnesota and I haven't heard of Jello salad or Lutefisk until now... lol
Your from the metro area aren't you?
We use pistachio pudding instead of jello mix, it's actually basically whipped cream with whatever jello/pudding powder you want, and marshmallows.
I am from the metro. Lol. Minneapolis. cadddy1871
Yeah that explains alot
Have you ever been to a church event or any holiday, birthday, pick-nick, outing of any kind in Minnesota?
Not even Minnesotans like lutefisk...
Love the Banjo Kazooie music
Pretty fun. Love it.
That Manny guy needs a fan page. Dude is HAWT!
I was born and raised in MN and i have NO IDEA what lutefisk is. [P.S. the guy at 0:25 on the left is 100% right. It's what we do]
How do you not know of tater tot casserole..lol. But I'm from SD you should do some of our favorite foods; there are only a few that aren't amazing!!
'cept in MN it's called Hot dish but yeah. Good stuff.
HOT. DISH.
Peter Grafstrom idk about that all my relatives who come (from MN) to family reunions call it tater tot casserole, hot dish something else.
So that's the name of it -stares at jello salad-, we just call it the fluffy stuff that's full of sugar, but tastes pretty good.
Oh gosh the jello salad looks similar to a hispanic pink thing i've seen in parties that I went
I am from Minnesota and I only heard of 1 of these
Ah, Lutefisk. At my high school they would have Lutefisk dinners in the evening and the next morning you would smell it all over the school. That and the sauerkraut smell as you walk into the school at 8 in the morning is not the fondest memory.

Shout out to the guy in the GSW shirt! Haaaay! 😄😄😄😄👍👍👍💙💛💙💛 Dubs all day everyday! 😄
lutefisk is norwegian and I love it
I think jello salad is very good. I think it's a little twist on Jello.
Love tater tot hot dish! But I have only heard of people up where I am (Duluth MN) call it a hot dish, not a casserole...lutefisk is alright lol
JELLO SALAD IS BAE!!
I'm from Minnesota and the only things that most people eat are jello salad and tater tot hot dish.
Born and Raised Minnesota girl, lutefisk two big thumbs down. BTW that was a sad looking Juicy Lucy.
Judging from the comments, no one actually seems to like lutefisk.
What about pickled herring? Any takers?
Jello salad is my favorite!!! #minnesotapeopleproblems
Im from Minnesota... if it makes it any better, even Minnesotans don't eat lutafisk, unless your weird. and yes tator tot hotdish is awesome and if you have never had a juicy lucy... get one!!! or find out how to make them.
I live in the Twin Cities. My two cents is if you haven't eaten a Juicy Lucy before, you aren't a true Minnesotan.
I'm a100% Minnesotan and I've only had nut goodies and hotdish so west coasters, we arnt totally gross
I thought a Juicy Lucy was pretty common everywhere
It was first made in Minnesota!
I was eating tater tot hot dish while I was watching this.
I'm a Minnesotan and I have only heard of Tatar Tot surprise or whatever and Jello Salad..... PLEASE DONT KILL ME!
I've lived in Minnesota my whole life (22 years) and I have never once had a Juicy Lucy, or a Nut Goodie. I have never ever seen anyone eat Lutefisk, let alone try it myself.
I know tater tot hot dish and a juicy Lucy, but I have never seen lutefisk on a menu before.
I always assumed Lutefisk was a joke or a threat (you better behave or we'll make you eat Lutefisk!) - until I found out my cousins actually go to Lutefisk feeds. Minnesotan proud - never gonna touch the stuff.
W I have always lived in Minnesota I have eaten everything but lutefisk
