South MN is German and Polish rooted, North is more Scandinavian. No Lutefisk in the South part. Its Walleye and no substitute down here. We love 'Fargo' just do not assume Fargo is in MN. Cohen Bros. are from MN. It was a joke. Swearing and being obnoxious in Public is VERY un-cool anywhere in MN. 36 years in MN, so Prince and Bob Dylan should also be respected. MN polite is real, be nice the weather is enough to deal with.
I agree that there are more Germans and Pols in Southern MN, but SE MN is chock full of Scandinavians. For example, my dad lives less than a mile away from Oslo, MN, where you'll find that everyone except my family has Norwegian or Swedish heritage.

This was so accurate (except the pronunciations which you had to be doing on purpose to do so wrong). As a MN native who transplanted to Florida at age 40, I recognize and relate to everything. I didn't even realize they were quirks until I moved away! And you probably could have gone on for hours talking about Minnesotan quirks. That passion for tidiness. A note on "Uff da" from a Norwegian with a father who is a very frequent uff-da "user". Uff-da is used as an interjection when you hear about something bad or negative. It is NEVER used as a "finisher". Think of it as a "you have my sympathies - go on, tell me more". Example: Me: "I was out driving earlier and I got a huge dent in my car..." Father: "uff da.." Me: "Yea, this guy backed right into me" and so on. OK?!
