As is usually the case we had far too little time in this great state! These were our top 5, but we know North Dakota has much more to offer! What are your favorite ND places to visit?
The cabin that my mother was born in is in the northern unit. I spent my summers in the western part of North Dakota on the farm south of Arnegard. I cherish all of the memories and out of all of the places I've lived, North Dakota is my favorite. Moved back in 2014!
This video made me cry 🥲 I just feel so strongly about moving here from Maine to start a new life, been researching like crazy and just being where I am now I feel that I'm really missing out in the world, you guys have bison and wild horses! That's amazing, wild horses are kinda rare nowadays aren't they? I so badly want to be there right now exploring my new home but I gotta wait 6 more months to save up as much as I can for the big move. I'm so excited to live there and to see all that North Dakota has to offer! I plan to move to Fargo so not sure how far some of these places in the video are to it but I wrote it all down to explore later on when I get there! Thank you so much for making this video and I can't wait to explore it too!!! 🥰🥰🥰
Glad you enjoyed it. Fargo is about 5 hours from these locations. It is a good place though, we went through there often when we were staying in Minnesota. Best of luck to you on your move!
You have to be adaptable to live here. Brutal hot summers, -40+ winters, high winds, and dangerous storms. Lived here all of my 45 years. Visited other places and always want to come back home. Quite peaceful here and "North Dakota nice" is a phrase for a reason. There's more to do on the east side, but it's flat and a higher crime rate. What little crime we have. The west side (where I live) is less populous, but more scenic.
Oh, and Fargo is about as far as you can get from some of these places. About 4 hours from Fort Lincoln and 6 hours from Medora. 7 hours to the North Unit.
@Jay Alexander its definitely been a change, but its beautiful up here! Everyone has been so nice, and ive never in my life received this much help in a move. Most people in the area just gave us free stuff that we needed on facebook marketplace. Its been pretty great so far!
This is great - I used to live in North Idaho, and I've made a lot of trips east - skipping ND every time. The extent of my experience there was on the Empire Builder during a stopover in Minot while I was filming that video.
There are some fun things to do there, but don’t forget to tell people to avoid going in winter. It gets extremely cold, and with wind chills reaching negative 60 plus ( Fahrenheit) it gets dangerous fast.
Love your video. We already have a home in North Dakota and will be moving there soon. Can't wait to visit all these places mentioned, as well as ones from the comments.
This is old info from when I was a kid but it's probably somewhat reflective today, though heavy toward "other": 45% were Germans, and 40% were Norwegian; the rest were Polish, French, UK, Eastern European AND Irish, especially in western Pembina County. (Sweden was noticably represented, but most who came over stayed behind in Minnesota.) As for the Irish, it seems you can't quench your thirst in the state without running into one. A visitor once wrote home to Boston that N.D. "is a strange place, the rivers run north and the Irish vote Republican." The fine video covered only western N.D. On my list a!so would be: Lake Sakakawea, Turtle Mountains and Peace Garden, Pembina Gorge, Fort Ransom and the Shyenne River, Devils Lake aka Spirit Lake, Kildeer Mountains, Red River of the North and the Little Missouri River. (For most of these destinations, don't just go there, N.D. doesn't have a Gettysburg or Cooperstown, N.Y. Go online etc. for info, set your objective, and arrive with a plan.)
FYI. The observations above might seem out of place. I meant to reply to Anthony m's question below about Irish in N.D., but my remarks ended up here in the Comments section. I liked the video and am impressed by all the good suggestions other NoDakkers have posted.
Swim i lived in Scotland and the weather there is a fair bit warmer, but swimming in the Lochs [Lakes] are freezing even in summer, so dear knows how one would want to swim in ND.
@treyray2 0 seconds ago I’m not sayin’ you’re wrong. But everything listed as a Top 5…is located in basically ithe same area of a big, vast state. How about a UND hockey game in Grand Forks or NDSU Bison Football game in Fargo Fishing at Devils Lake???? That said my daughter lives close to where you were, Watford City. It is a beautiful area that many people miss out on. Kids can learn some history. Very Enjoyable.
Christopher Christopher Christopher my Brother. How do you move from Temecula Wine Country by San Diego and not far from the Mountains to North Dekota?
Good question. Really depends how much you want to explore the National park. You can see and explore the town in a day, it's pretty small. We spent two days to explore the town and the park, I would have preferred three.
Hi, this is the Korean TV station tvN Naked World History Team. We would like to use this video as a broadcast material for the oil war episode scheduled to be aired on August 2nd. Is it possible?
@@OurMillionAdventures Turtle river state park is a beautiful place, makes for a great hiking trip and a solid adventure. That's one of my favorite popular hiking spots.
I was exiled to Grand Forks Air Force Base in the late 1970’s for 4 grueling years. (It was hell for this 18 year old without the uninvented Internet and a long distance phone call cost $1.05 per minute adjusted for inflation) Northeastern North Dakota is the total opposite of this video. (5.5 hours east) Furthermore, I see you visit during their extremely short summers. (July 31 through August 2nd) Come to Grand Forks in January and bring your kids, because you may need to sacrifice them and eat them to stay alive. Needless to say, I hope to never return.
I am a native North Dakotan and have survived for 72 years winters in Fargo without eating any children. 😊. I know you are making a joke, but the winters are not all that bad, you just have to be prepared for them. Granted an 18 year old, without transportation, would only have what was on the base for entertainment. But you could go hunting or read a book. If you would have gone outside a little bit longer each day you would have found that you could actually survive the winter. ❄️
I embraced North Dakota as best as an 18 could, 1,050 miles from home. (southeastern Illinois) I eventually bought a snowmobile, cross country skis and fishing. I’m not a hunter. I had 2 extended weekends at Lake Ashtabula and Devils Lake and was skunked both times, but Minnesota made up for that 10 fold. The U.S. Air Force provided us with excellent Artic gear, but it was still a deadly environment, especially in the late 70’s. The worst was the townspeople of Grand Forks. Some (not all) treated us with great disrespect, calling us “Scum Basers” and looked as if we were aliens from outer space. The females, attending University of North Dakota, wanted absolutely nothing to do with us guys from the base. We stuck out like a sore thumb with our required short haircuts when long hair was the norm of the time. It was 4 years of hell, not what any young man should be exposed to. It was like an open air prison and my only conviction was to serve my country.
Yep please tell everyone that will listen. That way we won’t have to deal with sharing our endlessly beautiful sunrises and personal safety with the likes of y-/
You should take a trip to the turtle mts in north dakota and the peace gardens a garden that sits in both USA and Canada a 1 of a kind garden no other 2 countries in the world have this
I traveled all through North Dakota in 2019. Some of my favorite places was the National Buffalo Museum in Jamestown. Another place is the Devils Lake area and the Enchantment Highway
Just some pretty cool things to do on the western side of the state. There’s also seeing the nature park just outside of Devils Lake, ND. It kinda has the same feel as Teddy National Park, just smaller.
