That's why I stay away from bookstores. My wallet cannot handle my vice of buying every book that looks interesting (even though I don't have time to read any of them)
He refers to himself as 'a college dropout' and is so much more reflective, erudite, and effectively analytical than any professor I've ever had. Apparently, you can fall head over heels for someone just by hearing him describe the contents of his book bag. He is a rare and beautiful being.
it`s a high form of art how he manages to weave references from classic literature into his songs and how he does it so beautifully and understandable for everyone
Books in order of mention: Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri The Fairy Tales of Oscar Wilde Metamorphoses by Ovid Ulysses by James Joyce 1984 by George Orwell
Hozier's intellect never ceases to amaze me. The novel he found difficult to read (Ulysses by James Joyce) is actually considered to be one of the toughest one's to read since it's written in stream of consciousness which can sometimes be quite tricky to understand. Hozier's reading list is top tier ❤
That's it, he speaks directly to those of us similar and in that similarity we find alot of comfort, especially in today's world, knowing that we are not alone with the feelings we have. There's a good interview with Zane Lowe where they speak on feelings more, you might enjoy that.
I was lucky enough to once talk about a particular book with him and it amazed me that he read it and knew so much about it! Glad that he is a book worm too!
Ulysses by James Joyce is SUCH a challenge. But I had a really good professor who spent 20 years of his career disecting the work and made it really rewarding to read.
He's like the male version of Florence Welch. She reads a lot of classic female authors and let's their works inform her songs. The both of them are like yin and yang
"If I obsess over something, I'll allow it to ruin my life..." Yes, like how I spent the wee hours of the morning trying to understand the De Selby music video. XD This man gets me. :D :D :D
He speaks about books as passionately as he writes and sings his songs!! Also him saying “when I’m obsessed over something, I’ll allow it to ruin my life” is all of us! I’m currently reading 1984 Can’t wait to see him in concert in a few months!!
1984 is a favorite. I was so sad that Winston did not make it. It was so disappointing for me to see that. I can see that Hozier is well read. He uses such lovely vocabulary in his music, and so many meaningful images come to light through his music.
Just because of Hozier, I'm forcing myself to read 'Ulysses', which I had pushed for a long time. I read somewhere that if you want to read 'Ulysses' first you need to read: 1. Hamlet 2. Odyssey 3. The dubliners 4. Chamber music 5. The portrait of a young man.. And 6. Dante's Inferno So after having read 1 and 2, I read 'The dubliners' and I'm resding the rest now.😅
A lot of points hit here that I can relate to. Of course that hyperfixation-element of loving something so much that it kind of occupies every crevice of your mind... Books, songs, movies... I get that. Don't talk to me during these stretches of time because I wíll include it in every conversation I have. Then obviously the TBR list forever expanding. (The two books I got at the second hand shop this week are just staring me in the face from the bookshelf right now.) But mostly the last bit about poetry... I've picked up more poetry in the last few months myself and what he says about the intimacy of it really resonates. It's like getting to brush with someone's soul in a way? And when you find things there that you click with, it's such an oddly intimate level of connection to have with a stranger. Anyway! I really liked this video! The guy has an interesting mind. *Goes to buy Dante's Inferno*

The Oscar Wilde fairytales are lovely ❤ would definitely recommend you to read them if you are into the genre. You probably will like it if you like hozier's music, lyrics, and the themes he focuses on 😊
Oh wow. Ich dachte immer Hozier könnte gar nicht noch attraktiver sein, aber sein Buchgeschmack gibt einfach unendlich viele Sympathiepunkte. Richtig tolle Auswahl großartiger Bücher!
"When I obsess over something, I'll allow it to ruin my life" he's just like me fr
This. 💯
real
This is me.
He's just a girl
I love that he's a musician for book nerds
😂 I never thought of it like that but i think it does take a bookish type of person to fully appreciate his lyrics
"I'm not a 'good' reader"...proceeds to whip out a bunch of intricate and influential classics that I couldn't handle outside of a classroom...
"with a tool like a wrench or a hammer you can build a house or you can smash a skull"
i love his dark associations
Now we gotta get Jack Edwards to analize his book taste
I was looking for this comment 😂
I wrote a comment in one of his videos and asked him to do it!
I hope hw reads it!🤞
You don't understand, i need this!
uncarley read some of his favorite books a couple years ago and did a video!
@BaileeWalsh omg I miss carly's book videos. I wish she would made more book content.

Definitely not a reader. 😁

thank you
Thank you!
Thank you love!
I like how in this case "booketlist" is a pun on this being a LIST of books AND close to how Hozier would actually say "Bucketlist"
He had me at "Im not a fan of Kindles".
I feel like i should be taking notes whenever he talks
"The work is finished by the listener. " omg, where is my notebook
No literally!!!

just the last chapter is stream of consciousness though
If you *haven’t* had trouble reading “Ulysses”, are you really a reader? 😂
Having a similar book collection to Hozier gives me comfort that I’m on the right track as a man. What a role model
So glad to see Hozier's take on 1984. Delighted to know it's focused in anti-war and anti-imperialist sentiment
Classic literature and beautiful music are my two truest loves - thanks Hozier for feeding my soul
No wonder I love his music, he is intelligent, articulate, sensitive and the opposite of superficial

What is your favourite chapter and why? :)
Vielen, vielen Dank für dieses Video! Ihm zuzuhören ist immer wieder ein Segen für meine Ohren
I love how he has been wearing the same jacket over and over. A man who lives his principles. Love him so much ❤️

Except without the racism
Just some everyday light reading lol. Hozier is a boss. Mad respect.😎

4:51 That's incredible, an incredible way of seeing it, wow.
By the way, his Ulysses copy is gorgeous

I adore the fact he's read Ovid. What a beautiful, reflective man

Very nice selection of books! Some of them are favourites of mine too.
A tool we can use to build a house or smash a head. What a mind! What a man!
Beautifully shared. Thank you!
What stunning editions!
“When I obsess over something, I’ll allow it to ruin my life” literally me…I’m currently obsessing over Hozier 🤭🫠
HIGHLY relatable! 😅👀
Thanks for that, got all of them except this Oscar Wilde one. Ulysses is sitting on my shelf, waiting to be read.
The Oscar Wilde fairytales are lovely ❤ would definitely recommend you to read them if you are into the genre. You probably will like it if you like hozier's music, lyrics, and the themes he focuses on 😊
Goddamn this is some big time stuff here. Cool video; look forward to giving the album a listen.
Loved watching this and all the book recomendations.
He has such a beautiful mind.
I just clicked on the video randomly and it turned out it is about books and I liked it
his taste is immaculate

"You can build an house or smash a skull..."
And he just comes out with this stuff in normal speech!! 😭❤🔥
Ulysses is one of my favorite books of all time. I knew the bog man was my boi. He gets it
All right Andrew! I will read Dante's Inferno! 🙃
Because of him and books . You earned a new subscriber..
He's so dear to me 🤍
"The work is finished by the listener." I'm going to get a tattoo of that.
This. 🙌
I feel like you can hear the influence that Ovid's metamorphosis has had on him though his songs. Its beautiful.
I adore The Divine Comedy!! He has great taste.
Now I must know what poetry Hozier is reading 👀
I hope my ultimate crush Dua Lipa will guest this man on her podcast service95, and I even want to see them having a collaboration❤
Thank you so much for this
What a genius ❤
“You can build a house with a hammer or smash a skull” Hozier watches Castlevania confirmed
"I dont read too much" but he is literally a literature/lyricist genius
Thank you for sharing❤

Thanks for the closeups of his hands. I'm disgusting, I know, but what are you gonna do.
I recommend Silence by Shusaku Endo as a book that seems to have similar themes
Love this!

When will I ever get the chance to meet you, I tried to go to Dublin a few days ago, but I could not make it. I'm so in love
i want to know what poetry he’s reading!
He has mentioned the poetry unbound podcast a few times. He seems to be a big fan. It’s a great place for any poetry lover.
He's a big fan of Seamus Heaney
what a man
I love a big brain ❤
These are my favorite books😭
Then you have great taste!
where's Jack Edwards when we need him??
I read 1984 when I was 15 as well. It's so uncomfortably good and very very unhealthy for a chronical overthinker/deepthinker.
@JackEdwards I am begging you to read Hozier’s favorite books
the BOOKET list?!!🥲
i wonder if he’s read animal farm, it’s another george orwell novel. It’s fantastic.
"with a tool like a wrench or hammer, you can build a house or smash a skull" BRUH
He has a neutral Irish accent, sort of middle class
On his cd his accent is definitely a created Irish accent...
how long until jack edwards gets to this one
Is it really Booketlist? Or Bucket List in Hozier's Irish accent?
Assembling all booktubers here. We need videos people
