I hate to see you like this. You look overworked and worn out. It is wonderful what your doing but please don’t sacrifice your health. I watch your videos and would love to see you continue. You may have to slow down and take more time to not burn out.
Have you considered running it as a boondockers welcome location until you are ready to open and just make rules that you give a tour once a day or once every other day? You can set the rules. Part of hospitality is letting people know what to expect. And then under promise and over deliver. So, in other words, make your rules such that people have lower expectations than what you will actually deliver, if they come. Though, I do support your decision to close the gate so that you have the privacy and energy to do what you need to do.
With all the work your doing for the community you might see if restaurant, local buisness might donate? You'll be bringing alot of people to their community so they might be willing to help. I do this for a living and you'd be suprised how much the current community want you to open bc it brings money into thier establishments. Happy to help if you want. Love you guys!
It's easier to catch chickens with your hands than a box , also you will need a rooster , they warn the hens of danger . You'll need to get a few more hens to get more eggs . Also feed them crushed corn , even though they are free range . If you plan on eating them , their meat will be yellow . You can get some pigmies goats , Sage would love having some . They will help clear out shrubs and will keep the grass trimmed . There is people who actually literally rent their goats out to people who are wanting to have their lawns done . LOL You can get a movable fence and move them to areas where you need them . It will help you out with all the acres of land that you have there . And you can sell a cup of goat food and a bottle of goat milk to feed them when you open up , like a petting zoo , and if y'all get more chickens y'all can sell fresh eggs also once you open up . Oh remember that you only need one rooster , 2 will fight and the dominant one will either run the other one off , or will kill the other one . So has anyone gave you directions yet using the phrase ," you will want to turn there in the direction that a chicken pees ". When you know which way a chicken pees John , then you can say that you are a southerner . LOL Just know John and Mercedes , you are both very much accepted and loved , my husband and I only been watching your videos for several months , and your both so down to earth , honest , and trustworthy . We have been looking at RV's , we are planning to buy one so we can start filling up more of our bucket lists . We would love to stay at your "Heaven On Earth Campground ", (that's what we call it , you have a very beautiful place ) and if you ever want to change the name of your campground , this would be a great name for it . We love y'all , and we pray that we will be able to stay at your place and meet y'all . We would also pitch in , we would love to. May God Bless Y'all 🙏🕊️💌
Just an idea for you… Maybe consider setting aside a Saturday or Sunday afternoon twice a month and invite people to come visit then. They could maybe even come for a little volunteer work party and barbecue. Make it known that the rest of the week is off-limits. Put a sign on the gate with visiting days/times and use that sign to advertise any help or contractors you need.
And….or, maybe you could solicit Board Members to act as “Odd Squad Ambassadors” to give tours, act as escorts, etc. The two of you could begin to create some division of labor. Hand pick a (or more than one) to do tours, one (or more again), to do whatever is necessary. Heck, if I wasn’t 800+ miles away I would love to bring my chain saws to help. You two, your vision, your spirit and enthusiasm, your humble humanity are so needed right now because we have too many examples of ‘what about me’ out there everywhere! Bless you and thank you, for all you are doing and what you model to all of us.
PHENOMENAL IDEA! Remember you are the Matriarch/Patriarch, tribal chiefs, and the CEO of your family. It is your JOB to prioritize your God and family before ANYTHING ELSE! I’m not good at that either, but I bought a workbook…lol 😁😆😂🤣
Well done! No apologies necessary....certainly a beautiful place....(including the Towing Services!). I had the opportunity to met General Schwarzkopf in 1992 and I asked him "How do you make good decisions?" He replied. "You make a lot of decisions. Some good, some bad. If you make a bad decisions make another decision. The key, however, is not to no make the same bad decision twice!" You said it perfectly. Godspeed in your endeavor. We are with you.
My husband and I are newbies to the RV life, and I love watching your channel. I have learned an awful lot from your mistakes and your victories! I am so happy for your family having bought this beautiful camp ground, and pray everything you want to happen comes to fruition. However, John, I am very worried about you. You are exhausted. I can tell just by your eyes. And I'm sure there's lots of stress and anxiety getting your beautiful site ready for all to enjoy. But please, take a break now and then. Take a day off every week and enjoy yourselves. You deserve it.
Can I give you guys some advise in regards to your chickens. I've raised chickens in NH and here in PA. Don't allow Sage to handle the baby chicks because of Samonella. When your cleaning the cages use latex gloves. You can give the adult chickens veggies and some fruits. You can also add Apple Cider vinegar to their water, just a tablespoon/per 1 gallon of water. It helps with mites and makes the eggs better. The baby chicks need to be on a special feed. One more suggestion; when you have an opportunity have the water quality tested in those streams and ponds for bacteria. Just saying......to be safe. I don't think my companion and I will be contacting you for an appt until possibly next year. We've decided to go with a Class A so we can tow the Rainer. It's been very difficult in finding what we want and there seems to be quite a few scams out there. We're being very cautious. I'm willing to help in any way I can with info and other suggestions. I hope my suggestions about the chickens helps out a little. I found a lot of my info by watching P. Allen Smith over the years. He has a website, I believe you will find a lot of good info on chickens. Good luck and God Bless!!!
In the fall chickens go into molt. So no eggs unless you light them. Also the hens you purchased appear to be older hens. As the age the slow down on producing eggs. Your small chicks have enough feathers they can be outside with the other. By the way we had over a 100 hens. 50 where layers and the others where meat. Had one rooster and he controlled all of his girls. Need to build a large coop for them. I purchased an old metal storage shed and built half of a chicken fence wall in it. With a door. I put there feed in there with a bulk feeder made out of PVC pipe. And water was in the coop. It all stayed dry. Had nest boxes and roses for them to roost on. Used 2x4 for the roosts. Chickens don't roost on round rods well. Also look at purchasing a bobcat with a brush hog on it works great for cutting up to 3" sapling trees and brush. Eat way to maintain and build your Hocking trails. Contact a local tree service and have them brink out chips. You can get them free usually. Spread them on your trails. Cuts down on the mud and they are natural. As for roads look into using blacktop grindings they are usually cheaper than gravel. Ive been a general contractor for 30 years. As for paint on your structure contact your local recycling source. Most of them have a paint recycling program and you can purchase there paint. Locally I buy recycled paint here in our town for $69. For 5 gallons. And it's made out of all types of paint. Good luck Brian and Cindy "xtreambydesign with passion"
Just a suggestion, have a couple be your campground hosts to give tours, etc so that you can tend to the things you need to do and give yourself some time. As always, thanks for your humilty and realness! Love you guys!
as an ex camp ground worker i know what kind of task it is to even keep up with the simple things like triming trees and mowing grass at a camp ground , wish i could do more to help in your adventure in this . love your videos and the respect you have for the great outdoors and people for the most part . may you be blessed in all you do
Ok chicken help here. Dogs eat chicken poop, they know it’s a source of nutrients. That’s why they sniff the chickens butts, they are waiting for a snack. The chicken will lay on a regular basis once they are Settled and feel safe also they need a routine. To get the chickens back in the coup get a grain mix called scratch And only give it to them when you want them to go inside. Put the scratch in a plastic container and shake it and they should come running once they figure out whats in there. Also get a large dog pen that’s made out of chain link fence and is around 8ft tall. This way they have room to run, scratch, and dust bath with out the dogs interfering. Also you can let the chicken run free but be careful with dogs because their Predator instincts will kick in and they will eat the chicken so monitor them while the chickens are running free. Also chickens will put them selves to bed when the sun starts to go down. Hope this helps, I have 11 chickens in my back yard and more eggs then I can give away. Let me know if you have any questions

Lastly, you're free to patronize the businesses of your choice, including purchasing memberships or frequenting particular campgrounds. God bless America!

Maybe instead of calling it “Board” call it “Advisors” . That makes more sense. I just love you two. I wish I was able to help you guys with this place. It sounds like you need volunteers to stay there and help clear and clean the campground. Maybe they could stay for free if they work at the campground. Could be a win win situation.
I am staying close to this area. I have been here almost two years. I grew up camping, lived on a farm with chickens, horses, cows, goats, I could get everything organized and going. And I would know if you were getting home cooking on supplies. I know a man with saw mill around Fort Payne. He is basically given away rough cut live edge boards great for building. Odd couple don't want to much outside help. I hate to say it only looks like it's about the money. Some older people like me could bring a lot to the table for voluteering...found a campground in NC. Was hoping to use both as a travel back and forth for a small business. NC has a senior/disability section that helps people on fixed income...what a wonderful idea it was...I love it!!
@@cindybraun371 I'm interested to know more about the senior disability section. I'm a full-time nomad almost 6 years and it's rough with a fix income.
@@jerseyandhernomads They always had a campground that was separated by a monthly living and regular campground. The monthly living got out of hand with drug addiction renters. They evicted them, kept the 55 and over. Each camp site has covered area for RV'S and a porch. They do have strict rules, but mostly to protect us. They still have camping cabins and full rv and tent sites...at this time nothing is left. However they do have a renter with rv outside of the 55 and up who is trying to sell his rv with full enclosed porch. The catch is you have to move it...
So chickens go through a season usually during the summer where the “molt”. They will lose some feathers and lay less and eventually stop laying for a few months. Also when moving to a new home it can take them a couple weeks to get acclimated to laying regularly. If they feel stressed by something they are unfamiliar with such as being held a lot or a dog etc then that will cause them to slow down on laying as well. If they are not young chickens, that will also change how often they lay. As far as chicks are concerned, all they need is a plastic tote from Walmart with shavings and a heat lamp with water and food until they can move to the coop. Transitioning them with the big chickens may be a new fiasco though! We RVd with chickens too! Had the same coop y’all have! Now we no longer RV and we have a small poultry hatchery in Louisiana . So feel free to visit us at Caritas Cottage on Facebook where we try to help educate for people who are new to chickens! Y’all have fun!!!
That's wonderful advice, and good to know there's a chicken expert on board. I'm no expert, but I've heard that having a rooster nearby will cause them to lay more. Is that accurate? I don't know if you want one in the pen with the chickens, but perhaps in the area? All I know is that I LOVE to hear a rooster crow in the morning. I'm a city girl but I've have neighbors who've had them & I love to wake up to a rooster crow far more than an alarm clock.
@@lauraingeorgia5052 Roosters may sound nice - at first....then they will become a nuisance. They crow all day, not just the (very) early mornings - most visitors won't be amused. Also, some may harass and pull the hens' feathers out. They don't make them lay anymore either - instead they create blood spots in the yolk (start of the fertilization process) - you won't want to see that in your breakfast or baking. :-). If they are free-ranging (you will eventually loose them to predators, however), they may be laying the eggs in the woods or under bushes; most young hens lay about one egg a day, except during molt or extreme temperatures.
About the chickens. Feed the chickens at the same time each day. If you Feed them before the sun starts to set, inside the wire area, they will be there waiting for waiting for you. There is some truth to what your neighbors are saying about the steak. When we had chickens, we would save all our leftovers from our meals for the whole week and mix it up and feed to the chickens and that includes leftover chicken and meat. They would get this once a week. Those chickens would go crazy for the leftovers. We use to let our chickens roam too. But unlike the Usa, we don't have to worry about predators. And when we let them roam, the eggs are hidden. You have to home in on the noise the chicken makes when she is laying to find those eggs . (Why do you want to keep chickens anyway?)
I so respect your humility and transparency! We sold our RV in April and don’t even travel now but I still watch your RUclips! Your on a journey with God directing you!!! Keep smiling! From a Rhode Island Yankee😂
what about trading a place to camp/park in exchange for help with the park? It would lighten the load on you financially and physically by helping people with some place to park in exchange for work.
@@memyselfandlewii8781 I think experience is better and more valuable, but each state has different rules about it (just a money generator for states requiring licenses and permits....totally useless, but bureaucratic red tape always gets in the way)
As a business owner, it is appreciated to see the honesty in admitting when you are wrong, correct it, and utilize the situation to direct your decisions in the future. You will always make mistakes and bad business decisions, but as long as you recognize those times then move forward you will succeed.
One important word you said was “boundaries”. This is so important to remember that there comes a time that you have to say no. Take time to rest and relax and reenergize yourselves!!!
Chicken flock advice to make this part of your life easier right now…Keep them penned up during most of the day and only let them out when you can oversee them for an hour or so in early evening. As long as they have a “coop” with food, water, perches and nests, they will go in voluntarily when it gets toward evening. You don’t have to round them up. 😳 Hens don’t lay every day but good layers will give you at least 4-5 eggs per week once they are about 6 months old. They need sunshine/light in order to lay so during the Winter they won’t lay as much unless you have extra lights in the coop. Make sure they are SECURE in the pen and have something to roost on that’s up off the ground at night because foxes, raccoons, snakes, hawks etc will attack and kill them. Right now, minimize the dangers to them so you can concentrate on getting things done to get the park ready to open. Once that’s done, you’ll be able to have fun with your hobby chickens. Backyard chickens are really great at helping you relax once they’re established, and their eggs can’t be beat! 🍀🍀🍀
My wife and I started as work campers about a year ago. Never knew that I was built for this type of work! I'm now an assistant director over maintenance operations of 4 Campgrounds. Busy, busy, busy. I completely understand how busy you both are. Because of that- I would like to encourage you- it DOES get better! And if you like, I can offer advice based on experience. And I can probably introduce you to the owner of these parks, as a resource to you. That having been said, I wish you well and encourage you to Stay the course!
That actually sounds like so much fun! I love to help and to fellowship. Hopefully food is involved. We can make that happen too, it would be an experience people would never forget. And think of all the friendship that would grow from a week like that. Leslye
"If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” -Matthew 17:20
Yes y'all are entertaining!! So from a small town country boy the problem with your chickens is either you aren't planting them deep enough or too far apart.
My RV park as part of my retirement plan is my motivation. Engineer says I can fit 34 slips in with 3 separate sewer systems. The power and sewer is going to be going in in 2 months. I'm planning 4 private bathrooms with showers, a laundry room and a small game room. The hard part so far was trying to lay out the slips..so the park isn't too crowded verses so few slips the park can't make back what it costs to build it. If I were you I'd hire an engineer first and get a topographical survey. Your sewage system will determine about everything you will be able to do.
The age of the chickens may be the egg problem. It may not be safe for the little chicken to be with the big ones. I would feed them a pellet mixture that has eggshells added to them . I live in Florida I use construction sand on the coop floors and run. It is a five minute clean up each morning. I clean it like kitty litter. If you compost it for at least 6 months it will make great fertilizer.
Sheesh...I’m with you on closing the gates. That’s a safety issue. Who would show up at a closed establishment and expect a tour? Keep your family safe. (Sorry if the phrasing is blunt. I tend to be a plain speaker.)
@@sheripoland4742 What one wants and what is a social norm diverge here. Who would go uninvited & knock on a stranger’s door asking for a tour? I’d call that casing the joint. Everyone does not have good intent. Get broken into once & one gets a different perspective. They can sell anything legal that they want. So far, this is still America. Peace to you and yours.
I was chuckling over the chickens…we had chickens but not layers, except one that created a nest in our garage & gave us 3 eggs before being killed by a stray dog. Ours were free range & certainly made mistakes, like using the metal shed as the coop & roasted a couple before they were ready. They levelled our garden except for one vegetable so I said they were pre-seasoned😂. Our dog kept them in the backyard, she didn’t like them & chose the front yard as her space so if any wandered out front she’d herd them back to their space. (We had 3.1acres unfenced) $50/night is a lot to pay but of all the RV parks I’ve seen, yours will be absolutely worth it! It’s not a parking lot but a beautiful campground. Even I’d pay $50 to stay there! If North America gets back to letting us roam around again, I’d like us to wander down there in a couple of years.
What type of contractors are you looking for? Because I’m an electrician who lives in my RV full-time and travel. I also own a marketing production company that does commercials and advertising for companies.. Let me know if you need one.
That’s very nice of you ! I believe they will have the best campground ever! My husband is an electrician. He’s retired. Was out of local 474, Memphis. it’s good to have him home. We bought a class A and are getting to travel a little. Making our way in this new world we fine ourselves in, trying to stay well. Be safe out there. God bless! Leslye

We don't really care where anyone is from, but it is tradition to have a bit of fun. The real truth is that alabama is one of the most welcoming states in the country. Southern hospitality is not forgotten here and especially where these folks have chosen to settle. That country is the most beautiful alabama has to offer. From an alabama native, I have to say thank you for investing in one of the greatest pieces of property that almost got forgotten. God sent the right people to Thunder canyon.
@@RVOddCouple As a Philadelphian who married a Mississipian (and is raising our kids in the south), you need to embrace your inner Yankee my friend! LOL I always tell our kids they're "mixed" - half yankee, half southern.
I'll bet the chickens are laying their eggs in the brush. our free range chickens did that. we had to sit and just watch them to figure that out.. especially when the chicks started emerging. very relaxing and fun to watch them. the roosters are territorial and the hens had their own hierarchy. the "queen" hen ran the place.
Give the chickens a few days to figure out what's happening. Any trauma stops egg production. Keep them penned until a certain time, daily and hopefully they'll lay before they are released (ours never did). You can get auto doors on timers. Give them scraps. They'll eat darn near anything. Be sure they have enough calcium, etc. Put wire over the chicks. If you handle the chicks daily(check their vents daily) they become extremely tame so it's easier to pick them up when they're sick or injured. Look up a chicken vet or expert before you have problems!
Sounds like rv edition of Green Acres. Chickens have spans of time when they don't lay. If they're loose, they may be laying anywhere. Anyways, people shouldn't expect to show up outta nowhere to crash and tours. Manners, hello. p.s. - save ducks, geese, turkeys for later.
A million people are probably going to give you advice about the chickens and I guess I'm one of them. I've been raising chickens for 10 years. Most likely they are just stressed from the move. Keep them confined for a couple of weeks. They will then go back in their coop on their own at dusk. You won't need to do anything. They actually do love meat :) They need good quality chicken feed available all the time and fresh water. They will love any greens you can give them until they are free ranging. Basically, good quality feed and fresh water. Give them time to settle in. You should get 1 egg per chicken per day, they will skip days.
Totally agree with the gates. It is really hard to get things done with so many well intentioned interruptions. Something you might want to think about, since we live in tornado alley, is a campground tornado shelter, especially since our second tornado season will be coming up in November. Stay safe in this heat. It has really been bad the last couple of weeks.
Camp Gratitude is already one of the most beautiful RV parks we have ever seen? About chickens - free range means any chicken not confined to a cube on a roost. It doesn't mean walking all over creation like Little House on the Prairie. Put the chicken coop someplace with some space. Depending on the number of chickens build a chicken wire enclosure in front of the coop. I used to figure 10 sq. ft/bird for the enclosed yard. Use 8 ft. 4X4 posts at 4 ft. centers put 11/2 ft. into the ground. Run the chicken wire from the bottom of the post to the top to discourage digging predators. Use 2 X2s across posts to hold a chicken wire roof. Make sure you give the laying hens crushed shell or something like that with the feed. You have probably been given a ton of ideas of chickens. This is how I used to do it.
You guys are wonderful. I love your faith in the lord. I'm older and retired, and I've had both hips replaced and one knee. Our journey won't even begin until I'm 66 and a half when my wife retires and we can get an RV and truck.
Board members should be called Quality Control Advisors. A board member has say and is miss leading and advisor is simply sharing their opinion and everyone knows what quality is.
Who cares what you call them (board members, advisors...quality control...)!? This couple needs help ... They need volunteers...like retired trades folks who can barter free rent for quality work. It's becoming increasingly clear that there's a lot more Indian chiefs involved in this operation than Indians. They need volunteers now. That is if they want to make this thing work.
You all are a great family. I don’t yet get to RV quite like if like to, but hopefully one of these days. It’s my sincere prayer everything comes together for you with The Campground. Anyone can tell you’re very genuine and honest. Best of everything to you.
You can't be a blessing to others unless you gift yourself good health and wellness. Then you can get back in the trenches and behold miracles of the gifts of community. Apology accepted, and anger is a side effect of true passion. Never let up, and October will be in God's hands. You and the squad were meant to be! Luv you guys
You got the chickens and are not settled yet... lol. Once you have more people and food being produced you will have chicken food free! Even make a compost pile with dry leaves and needles for them to play in. There's other things you can do. If your tossing brush and twigs or huge burn pikes somethings wrong.. don't waste anything.
I was a Yankee, woman engineer at a furniture manufacturing plant in Florence, AL back in the late 80s, so I know how Alabamans treat outsiders. And to add insult to injury, I was (and am still, proudly) a graduate of the University of Tennessee - Alabama's arch rivals! The Volunteers versus the Crimson Tide. John, never be ashamed of being who you are - a Yankee! But now you can claim Southern roots.😊
They used to rent a couple of trailers and then the cabins when they rebuilt them. So a lot of local people are used to that. Also the locals know how to get there that the road has nothing to do with it. We've been praying someone who would take care of it because it IS a part of our lives that can't be replaced. You're giving US that gift.
Dear Mercedes and John, in your current situation, I am reminded of the old adage, when you're up to your keister in alligators, it's difficult to remember that your initial objective was to drain the swamp... 😁🤗

You have to take care of yourselves first because nobody else will. You’re doing the right thing and 99.9% of the RV Odd Squad and others will stand with ya. Good luck to you both and looking forward to one come to visit after you open up for business.
Chickens don’t pay for themselves, they are just nice to have around. You would need several hens to get lots of eggs. You are lucky to get one egg a day or every other day once they start laying.
I agree with you 100% I don't see any reason why people are giving you a thumbs down.. you can only do so much... Put yourself and your family first put your work and your health first. I don't understand why people don't understand this. You are taking on a big endeavor. I wish you all the success you deserve. Keep up the good work keep honest put God first and all other things will fall in place.

We used to raise chickens and depending on their age will depend how much they produce. Protein is very important to egg production so free range is great for bugs, but make sure you are buying the egg layer feed for the feed side. Lots of water too.
So, bring a chain saw and your own eggs? (Just kidding! ) Actually it would probably be a good idea for them to bring gas, extra chainsaw blades, oil. Hoping the crazy things slow down for you!

If you build a good fenced area, your chickens can roam, but at least your daily “egg hunts” will be easier! I’ve had chickens forever, and if completely free range - they’ll lay where they want! Mine tend to lay around the same time every day, often a little later each day. Lots of info on chickens out there. They make wonderful companions, and the eggs are a bonus! Mine love to be cuddled ( in small doses lol).
Ok, I know the people in this area can be hard. They all use to play at this campground. I was just there in Ider on Friday. The people I was visiting were positive about you guys
In my one-summer experience with raising 6 chickies to the age of strong layers, I suggest that your chicken coup needs 2 things for the hens to start laying more eggs where you can collect them. #1 is nesting boxes and #2 a perch up off the ground for nighttime roosting. Build even one nesting box so the hens have a dark, enclosed, quiet place to zone out for the little while it takes them to lay an egg each day. Even if they are free-ranging and you leave the coop door open, you will occasionally see that one of the hens has taken a time-out to go lay. Then they need a perch (wooden rod or big branch branch) to roost on at night to feel safer from predators). Add both of these items to their coop and keep them inside it for about 3 days for them to figure it out how safe they are (plenty of food and fresh water). Then you can resume letting them free range during the day (unless you are worried about daytime foxes or coyotes or hawks snatching them) and they will walk themselves back into the coop at the end of each day to return to their "safe space" where you will dutifully shut them inside each night for their own safety. It's magic.
This is the stage where you need to be focused. Decisions now affect EVERYTHING you do in the future. As to visitors, perhaps you could have scheduled time for tours. Say once a week for a reserved group. Gives you the time you need and throws a bone to the Odd Squad.
lol, chickens can be a lot of work guys but the fresh eggs are amazing! Free range is good and once they know where they sleep at night they will go in themselves usually at dusk or in the dark. God speed guys....we love you all so much!
I don't RV right now I live in one a park model 42 ft long, we have 26 acres and by a river. We did an experiment with chickens, 10 of them and let them free range. We bought cat carriers and put wooden eggs in them and the chickens learned to lay their eggs in there. Make sure to feed them calcium/oyster shells to give good strong egg shells. They may like cat food as a treat, ours didn't they loved water melons! Anyway my point here is this....we have a Hugh chicken coop and an addition my husband built and when it gets 45 degrees or lower it's all heated!! We have supplies and extra stuff and I would like to give it all to you guys. Just trying to figure out how to get ahold of you all.
The chicks don't need a heat lamp if the temp stays above 74. Wash hands after handling chicks. Lure the chickens back into the henhouse in evening with dried mealworms. I prefer Grubbies on Amazon. They chase me to get their grubbies! The increase in protein may increase their egg production.
Enjoy following you guys. Our son lives in Henagar just down the road. We used to live in Ft Payne. DeKalb county is great. Best of luck to y’all. You can’t go wrong following God’s will. Here’s a good word for you. For great Mexican go to Limon’s in Henagar. 50 Lloyd Crye Drive, Henagar, AL 35978.
My chickens at dusk return to the roost. Just wait till it gets almost dark, they should be in the cage, then shut them in. Also oyster shells will get them to lay. Just give them a some in their food or in a separate dish. Hens have to be old enough to start laying and then they will lay usually one egg a day until winter. They will stop or slow down laying due to how long the daylight is. Use a light in the hen house to keep them laying when the daylight is short. Also the new chicks needs to be interduce to the flock at night so that they will be accepted.
Hey guys. No apologies necessary!! Keep connecting with the community. If they're smart they will realize how beneficial this campground will be to the local economy! Your honesty and sincerity and of course alot of hard work will get you through. Vision thru Belief equals success!! God bless you and your family. 😇🙏🇺🇲
FYI, my family lives in AL… the storm seasons are always bad in trying to find reputable contractors at fair prices. At the coast my nephew could not even find anyone to clean up debris. My sister and mother both had to wait weeks to get the roofs repaired!
Sale memberships all the while unable to fulfill membership benefits. Jim and tammy baker come to mind. there ARE laws regulating that. some federal when dealing with across state lines.
Growing Pains.....ya'll are doing a great job. Slow down so you don't get burn out. This should be a blessing not a nightmare. Keep those boundaries. We "people" in general just get excited and oblivious. God Bless and keep the boundaries to keep your sanity.
I love how real you both are all the time. You’re just human like the rest of us you’re not invincible. I also love that you can apologize if you feel you’ve been wrong in someway as that says a lot about who you are and why everyone loves you. As far as people giving you a hard time about the chickens eating steak LOL that’s their way of being friendly believe it or not. I don’t really think it has to do with where you’re from in all honesty. When I first moved back to Tennessee from Seattle I had been snow skiing quite a bit and had a cargo carrier for skis on top of my roof of my vehicle. I went into a hardware store were the old men in overalls still played checkers. One of them asked me what that was on top of my roof and I told them it was a portable coffin service and they believed me! LOL (naturally I explained afterward). It’s just good ole fun, nothing to do with where you’re actually from or whether you are city sorts. I can’t wait to see the campground at some point especially since I live in Alabama. I can tell how many directions are being pulled because it seems difficult to focus on your goals or to see headway. It will take time and what stories of inspiration you will have in the end. Remember why you did this in the beginning because you’ll never please everyone. Food for thought: If you continually remind yourselves and everyone around you that you’re different they may begin to see you that way 😉 I actually see you more alike than different over all. You are loving, caring, have faith in God, want to do good for those around you and support the community. I don’t see those as differences but like minded. May God bless and lead you and open the doors that need to be opened.
Also, chickens will stop laying eggs whenever they are under stress. Just moving to a new home is enough for them to stop laying. Once they feel safe and comfortable in their new home they will start laying regularly again. But even then only if they are getting good feed, water. I still have grown chickens that prefer to drink out of water bottles. So, i use rabbit water bottles that i hook to the henhouse in addition to the other water source. I dust them and the henhouse once a month with diatomastioius earth. It keeps the mites and lice away and is non toxic. They love left over salad, no dressing...grass clippings, weeds with flowers...
In my prior work, we called what your’re calling a board member a steering team member. Changing the terminology may help with the confusion you experienced.
We bought 6 hens. We were told to hang them in a sack for a day in our chicken shed. Sounds horrible but it worked. They free ranged along our loch edge and came back every dusk and laid 6 eggs every day. Never fed them.
Whew!! I was worried there for a second! I thought some inspector came out there and shut you down! 😳 I can totally understand Odd Squad people wanting to help- I’d offer my services if I didn’t have an old lady cat and senior citizen dad who relies on me. But by the same token we have to understand you’re busy fixing up the place, and we definitely shouldn’t come unannounced and expect to park our rigs. So DON’T feel bad! The park will be ready when it’s ready, and in its own good time. Sending up lots of prayers for you guys. ♥️☺️
The support your getting is simply because how loving people yinz are. You have allowed us in good bad or indifferent. Being Honest and treating people with love. Keep your heads up and just know He has a plan. Your in our prayers. Blessings from Gettysburg…
You are both such loving, big-hearted people! I agree, to be able to create Camp Gratitude for it to be all that you dreamed, it's important to limit the visitors. Most "businesses" or organizations don't open till it's ready. This is going to be the BEST campground ever! Love you guys! 💕😊
I have recently decided to sell what I own and go full time RV (5th wheel). I am looking for people that have decided to step out in extraordinary faith during perilous times and find ways to join these communities. I am looking at northern Tennessee properties to buy as well. So cool to see you two on RUclips doing what I have dreamed of doing for years.
Have you considered opening up in stages to generate some revenue to plough back? You might price out doing everything in a section of the park just to get some paying sites open. If it doesn't make sense don't do it that way, but in the current environment they'll probably be full the second they open.
Retired construction company owner/ investor from Boca Raton, Florida Been Rving since 2001 with three cross-country trips under my belt. IF it were me, I'd divide the property to 50% timeshares and 50% rentals , This creates sizeable, liquid investment capital immediately. Then you find another RV property to satisfy your dedication to the Odd Squad members. Also, check out if owner affidavits are available in that county. You can do any work yourselves as long as it passes mandatory code inspections. Just my two cents... GOOD LUCK !!
John, I don't think you acted in a childish way at all! When I heard what that campground in Louisiana did, I was even MORE "childish"! I would have blasted them and posted all kinds of negative feedback on social media, so it appears I am much more childish than you are!! Looking forward to the progress you make and being able to camp with you in Thunder Canyon, we are just down the road here in Florida. God Bless you all.
I see Sage running back and forth behind you- with Skippy of course. I’m behind on the videos due to a family emergency. The campground looks gorgeous- you can’t buy the natural beauty! Thank you for all you do!
Taking care of yourself is priority! There's also a huge liability with having people show up and want to help. If someone gets hurt / injured, it will not be a good situation. And with people there to "help" you end up spending all your time directing them on what to do, and then babysitting them constantly to be sure they didn't hack up the bushes, trees, lansdcape so much that they "killed 'em"
I guess that’s where wavers come in? If people have a background or just can have the information you give them will do a great job. God will bring the correct people 😇
Hey guys you did not act like a child you did not say anything wrong. You are just passionate about what you believe in and I like that because I'm the same way!
John, you have absolutely nothing to apologize for from last week's video. You weren't acting like a child, you were =outraged= at how you were treated. I know that you're done with the situation, but I really hope that lots and lots of RVOS members spread the word about this POS company so that we can vote with our dollars and avoid =any= of their facilities and products. Make them hurt and realize that their actions have consequences. Just like most of my friends who won't give Emperor Marcus a cent unless it's a dire emergency. Keep up the good work!
One other thing I thought of regarding liability & insurance issues while you're getting things up and running - you might draft a waiver/release of indemnity for folks who come to help, while you're working on the park, so if any accidents happen (and, unfortunately, they can & do) you won't be held liable. Most folks will understand and sign it & those that won't probably shouldn't come to 'work' on things.
Beautiful place what I can see. You hang in there we’re praying for you.there’s light at the end of the tunnel.take time to rest.if u guys don’t take care of yourselves then it’s no good.❤️ can’t wait to come for the rally.wish there was something I could do .let me know when you can let people to come help.you two are awesome! xx

I don’t want to camp. I want to come and work with you. I think you need help. Let me know.

Looking into this but big liability issues. Especially for non-Members
Set aside days off guys....this is a job and right now it's your baby with no employees....self care
We loved having you Virginia❤️❤️❤️🙏
Also invoicing the tow service
Great advice 👍
Great advise
A rooster would push the chickens in to roost at night if you want them to free range. That’s my experience with my chickens and free range.
Love you guys!
as an ex camp ground worker i know what kind of task it is to even keep up with the simple things like triming trees and mowing grass at a camp ground , wish i could do more to help in your adventure in this . love your videos and the respect you have for the great outdoors and people for the most part . may you be blessed in all you do
If you don’t set boundaries, people will suck the life out of you. It’s unfortunately necessary. Thanks for sharing.
Some of the most enduring and endearing qualities of the _RVOC:_ The humility and integrity to admit when they're wrong and apologize.
J&M, remember, haters gonna hate.
@p. chuck morales, esquire, if you only had a clue about that which you speak.
The truly wonderful part in all of this is that you live in a country where you're as free to not subscribe to a channel or watch a video, as you are to post totally ignorant comments.
Not only that, you can instruct the YT algorithm to completely ignore this channel completely!
Lastly, you're free to patronize the businesses of your choice, including purchasing memberships or frequenting particular campgrounds.

I definitely would volunteer my time to help them.
@@cindybraun371 thank you. I usually look for a winter place. Monthly fees are crazy.
If you don’t make mistakes, you ain’t doing anything. Learn and move on, keep on trying. Love y’all, prayers for your success.
I always said that same thing. The only ones who make mistakes are the ones who do something.

what about trading a place to camp/park in exchange for help with the park? It would lighten the load on you financially and physically by helping people with some place to park in exchange for work.
I thought the same thing....work in exchange for living there while working, but workers should have licenses, so work would pass inspection
@@sandy89107 does a license replace skill and knowledge?
@@memyselfandlewii8781 I think experience is better and more valuable, but each state has different rules about it (just a money generator for states requiring licenses and permits....totally useless, but bureaucratic red tape always gets in the way)
LIABILITY INSURANCE isn't cheap in a business setting.
No one thinks of Liability until something happens
You are both awesome, thank you for your sheer honesty and vulnerability. It’s so refreshing to see good, wholesome people.
Saying “no” is such a difficult principle in leadership. Much love for you guys as you build the best campground in America!!!
Chicken like to eat ticks and flees. So if nothing else they are worth their weight in gold.

Great advice. Best wishes as you build!
(We had 3.1acres unfenced)
$50/night is a lot to pay but of all the RV parks I’ve seen, yours will be absolutely worth it!
God bless! Leslye
So they haven't answered you have they... Yeah ! Personally this doesn't look like a business.. it looks more like something entirely different... Just sayin !
@@RetireesHelpingRetirees my sentiments exactly! They aren’t open to Any Help.....Free Help!! They don’t respond to anyone offering help, I find this “ODD”
"I'M NOT A YANKEE!!"
LOL..that gets me every time.
Sorry bud. You are a Yankee. Always will be to Alabama natives. Way it is. Take it from a Mass boy in his 5th decade of living in the south.
What Mark? I’m not!!!
@@RVOddCouple As a Philadelphian who married a Mississipian (and is raising our kids in the south), you need to embrace your inner Yankee my friend! LOL I always tell our kids they're "mixed" - half yankee, half southern.
@@purselmer5931 LOL 😂 Don’t call boys from Boston Y:-@:;
I love your honesty and the fact that you can admit your mistakes. You have integrity, which is very rare these days.
Amen! They are so refreshing! You don’t have to wonder what they’re up to.
People are being rude and intrusive you only have so much time and energy. Dont burn out. I'm very proud of you for setting boundaries!
Thank you for that :-)
I'll bet the chickens are laying their eggs in the brush. our free range chickens did that. we had to sit and just watch them to figure that out.. especially when the chicks started emerging. very relaxing and fun to watch them. the roosters are territorial and the hens had their own hierarchy. the "queen" hen ran the place.
Lets see racoons ,fox ,weasels who knows. If they get your chickens,I wouldnt advise replacing them
Sounds like rv edition of Green Acres. Chickens have spans of time when they don't lay. If they're loose, they may be laying anywhere. Anyways, people shouldn't expect to show up outta nowhere to crash and tours. Manners, hello. p.s. - save ducks, geese, turkeys for later.
🤣😂🤣
Heaven in Earth 😀 set up a Go Fund - People like me would Give I’m Sure many would 👍🏻
save that for when you get everything else managd and then you get bored. You might consider chickens and even geese and goats. Theres more...
I agree, or maybe Advisors (?)
thats a goodun,still relevant 150 yrs later
Love what you are doing and you MUST take care of yourselves FIRST! People will have to understand that and give you the space that you need to get everything up and running! Hopefully someday I can make the trip from Michigan to see this beautiful place! Wishing you the best of luck with everything you are doing!!!!
I think you're doing right thing! Cheers to happiness and success!
Hey thank you!
I love that the channels I like and follow also follow the other channels I like and follow. Feels like I'm on the right track.
I agree people these days have no Respect- Times have Changed since the old timers past on .
You weren’t childish. You had legitimate reasons to be frustrated. But I appreciate your apologies. I honestly appreciate your transparency and authenticity!!!!
Nice place, my wife and I really get a kick out of Sage doing her thing in the background. This will be a great camp community with God as the foundation.
Me too! I love seeing her explore all those beautiful woods!
@Phoebe Moody Isaacs and of course they arent or not likely to be maintenance free
I agree with you 100% I don't see any reason why people are giving you a thumbs down.. you can only do so much... Put yourself and your family first put your work and your health first.
I don't understand why people don't understand this.
You are taking on a big endeavor.
I wish you all the success you deserve.
Keep up the good work keep honest put God first and all other things will fall in place.
just a little suggestion...if the county/city has a lions club think of joining it. we were new the area, had a new business and the networking we were able to utilize attending the lions club luncheons was invaluable.
I looked you up again! I was watching quite awhile before I stopped watching as much RUclips! My Dad and Mom had RVs after all of us were grown! We (my late husband and myself and kids) went with them on trips! The grandchildren even more than us! I always loved it! My second husband is too uptight to drive an RV! I like watching you! I find you and you have bought a campground! Wow! You guys are hilarious and real!
How unfortunate that you’re having to deal with moochdockers! You have every right to expect others to be respectful of your space. As soon as I have the $ I intend to join at the highest level (currently on a long-planned Mt Rushmore 10-day camp out that I saved up for). Love you guys and what you stand for!
I know your hearts and know you would allow anyone free camping if you were set up. All business has overhead to pay and your under construction. God speed. So proud of you.
Yall need a theme song like Gilligan's Island to explain the history... lol
oh lord, won't you buy me a super RV ..driving for hours is trying to find me...i'll wait for delivery each day before 3, oh lord, won't you buy me a super RV.
Love that🤣
I was just thinking the same thing ..
I don't know if you will have time to read this. But the rv odd squad inspired me and my wife to get out and rv! We did not weekend warrior it. We went 2 weeks out and 1200 miles away fell on our face got up and kept going.who needs broken teeth lol.. Learned a lot. And started loving it. Getting ready for our next adventure. Thank you for inspiring us. Hopefully one day I will be able to go to your park and see all the stuff you're building up. God bless you. we appreciate all your videos. From Ogden UTAH.
Find a volunteer tour guide LOL....Fried chicken taste better with skin, so plucking is a must, LOL.... Profits & Ethics can go hand in hand , some company's choose not to put in any concerned effort & they deserve every thing you through at them !!!. THANK YOU FOR BEING WHO YOU ARE.....
I love that: "This is a blessing, we're grateful for this problem." If only everyone had that mentality!
I would so love to be able to hook my tool trailer on my 5th wheel and come work ... projects like this are a shiny lure, for this old carpenter ... my heart says yes, but my body says ""are you joking"??😆
If you could make it, your teaching and experience would be priceless.
I wish I had paid more attention to my grandfather’s teaching but I was in a totally different trade. I can carpenter a little but not where a 69 year old should be
If you build a good fenced area, your chickens can roam, but at least your daily “egg hunts” will be easier!
I watch you two simple for your GREAT attitude!!
Very understandable and got you covered. Wishing Godspeed with your plans. Love you guys so much.
Great info Tara💚💚💚 Thank you 🙏
In my prior work, we called what your’re calling a board member a steering team member. Changing the terminology may help with the confusion you experienced.
An attorney's advice may cost them now,but can save them much more later
Thank you 💚 God Bless you as well🙏
You are both such loving, big-hearted people! I agree, to be able to create Camp Gratitude for it to be all that you dreamed, it's important to limit the visitors. Most "businesses" or organizations don't open till it's ready. This is going to be the BEST campground ever! Love you guys! 💕😊
Love your guy's honesty. It's a rare thing these days. Wishing you the best.
God bless you two. I love the idea you have about bringing the campground back to what campgrounds once were. Hope to be able to visit you some day!!!
Retired construction company owner/ investor from Boca Raton, Florida
Been Rving since 2001 with three cross-country trips under my belt.
IF it were me, I'd divide the property to 50% timeshares and 50% rentals ,
This creates sizeable, liquid investment capital immediately.
I thought they were pretty restrained actually. I know I would have been much worse.
You hang in there we’re praying for you.there’s light at the end of the tunnel.take time to rest.if u guys don’t take care of yourselves then it’s no good.❤️ can’t wait to come for the rally.wish there was something I could do .let me know when you can let people to come help.you two are awesome! xx
