Welcome back everyone! With this video I just wanted to be transparent with you all, we have good days and bad days.. sometimes things go wrong but we will always put it right. Hope you all have a great weekend and thanks for watching!
I kind of think that the homeowners should have kept up with those shrubs so that they wouldn't have become so out of control! That being said, you did well!
The large quantity of material could be reduced into manageable porshions if you can strimm them down with a preferably old blade and transport them in a big bag or mabe a wheely bin. if you are able to optain a tipper trailer for the van that could help you out*
In this particular case, I would have trimmed the hedge height to just under the battlements, or maybe 3 or 4 inches lower than the lowest point of the battlements. Next, enter the neighbor's side and stake the plants up, and reduce the plant thickness that juts into the property by at least half. I wouldn't have altered the wall at all, because it may affect the strength of it down the line, and you don't want any liability. I don't know how windy it gets there, but with enough friction, the ropes may not hold, and the pins and rope sticking out of the wall into the alley may be compromised by passers by. Or, instead of staking, maybe a trellis may work on the inner part of the wall.
At the end of the day not your fault, it's the owners responsibility to keep it under control and not let it grow over a public right of way like that, good for you for coming back and sorting it for him though :)

My first thought, "Wow. It's really true. No good deed goes unpunished". I felt so bad for you guys. Then I realized this provided a way for y'all to educate us on what we can do if this happens to us. I mean it when I say that this is my very favorite channel on RUclips. I will sit & binge watch (over & over) for hours......for context, I'm disabled & can't do very much myself, so I live vicariously through you & your Dad. He especially gives me hope. 💖💖💖💖💖💖💖
Disabled, too. I watch for the same reasons. My favorites list may be a little different than yours but I know xactly how you feel. Kinda like chatting projects over with friends.
You do so much good for people less fortunate than most of us there are always thing's that might happen we never planned on and the weather is our biggest problem in this country, if it had not been for the storm the heaging probably would of stayed upright but you did what All good people ((I would like to think)) would do and you and your dad put everything back together, you do so much good work in your community keep up the good work between you Ben and the plonker Dad thank you for showing us how good people do thing's together thank you for your great video's and the great entertainment.
If you want to use this as a learning opportunity, the lesson is "what not to do". Thankfully, there are people in the comments who are doing the right thing by pointing out how stupid and dangerous this is. The brick wall was not designed to have all that weight pulling on it. It's not going to end well. Hopefully we get to see the video of them fixing this monumental stuff up. 😄
Unfortunately, now all the weight of the hedge is on one side of that brick wall. Looking close at the state of the concrete that is holding the brick up does not look very good. I can see cracks in it. It may fall anyway and bring the wall down anyway. That being said, I love what you and your dad do for the community and the elderly.❤
Nope. When a plant growing from your private property, blocks access to a public thouroughfare, be it pavement or road, it is your responsibility to clear the obstruction at your own expense. It is not the councils responsibility, they have little enough finances as it is to provide everyone with the services they need.
Not your fault Ben, That would have happened whoever cut the hedge, and it had to be cut for the public’s safety. It should have been looked after properly and not allowed to get out of control it’s too late. Also too late to expect any other result. You did a great job with what you found.
If you visited my area and cleaned up and then came back when things go wrong (i.e. storm and hedge collapses) I'd give you a cuppa and treat! You are a gem!
You did your best with that old hedge darling! If the owner had trimmed it down regularly like he ought to have done, it wouldn't have got into this state!! Not your fault ❤ from South Africa
Great job as always! The storm was bad. I think the homeowner, if able, should have been maintaining the hedge anyway so you’ve done him a favour which is probably why he was so chilled about it.
It would have fallen anyway. It's not the storm it's that you don't know how to cut an ivy hedge. It's a mat underneath any good gardener knows that. It will take years to grow back. And now looks a mess.
Like how they gave you options to put it right, think I might have cut it back so no support was needed and let it grow again, it was years old and probably causing more harm than good and the storm didn't help ! looks like a bit of pointing is needed too. All that said and I wasn't being critical, how lovely of you both putting it right and making sure they were happy...your Dad is such a great help and support to you and such a great character.
@@herobrinenoch3522 that's my worry as well. That the hedge is so heavy that next time it falls over it will take the wall with it. That would be an even bigger cost.
To be fair, it was their neglect that caused the issues in the lane. They are very lucky to have you guys coming back to do a huge amount work for them and also pay for the materials.
Wish I had a Dad like yours .. He's such a Card. Burnin u with his Spoon what a Meanie and Drinkin his Tea barkin orders as he laughs way too funny Ty Guys U really do make my day God Love ya. .
So glad the homeowner was east to work with - I assume you’ll keep in touch to see if this work or if the hedge should indeed come out. The alley is so much safer for all and that really was the goal. 😊
@@FlawlessCleaningServices Oh Dan, sorry to see you guys having to do all this extra work when the most commonsensical thing to do is to remove thehedge altogether and start anew. I don't think we saw the end of it... cheers!
Wonderful videos. A tip from a Gardner, when trimming hedges or when you have limbed up trees in some of your projects, limb them up evenly all the way around, not just one side. Keep up the great work.
That looks EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. A wall like that is not meant to have lateral forces applied to it. That hedge is going to bring down that wall, and when it does it could cause serious injury - or even death - to anyone it falls on. You need to get back around there ASAP and get the hedge removed BEFORE something terrible happens.
I have shared this before. Twenty years ago I saw a show with the dear departed Queen Elizabeth II driving interviewer around one of the Royal estates and as they drove past a building with ivy on it, the late Queen remarked that would never have been allowed in her grandmother's time (Queen Mary, wife of King George V) because she hated ivy on walls. That has stuck in my mind and as you shared the homeowner giving the option of taking it out, all I could think was Queen Mary would say "clear it all out." It was nice of you guys to try and save it.
An enormous botanical monster balancing on the garden wall... After pruning the balance was lost. You did an excellent repair job and in spring there will be a fresh green hedge again.
It was great to see how you handled an unexpected stressful situation so professionally after the storm damage. Really impressed by your calm approach and willingness to work with the homeowner to find the best solution. Restoring the hedge instead of full removal shows your dedication to the job. Thanks for sharing the process - it's always reassuring to see landscapers putting things right after Mother Nature throws a curveball. Wishing you the best with any other cleanup jobs coming your way!
Oh when your dad distracted you and touched your hand with the hot spoon, it reminded me so much of my own Dad. He’d do the same thing. He’s been gone a long time now but it made me laugh with happy memories.
Awsome job to the both of you. Im sure later on if this fails, and the nieghbors are fine with completely removeing the hedge, it will be another great and awsome clean up to see. You Dad makes me laugh every time. Bless him and we love him. Thank you for the blessings you provide people and the beautiful transfomations. Im always here.
Every time I watch one of your videos, I feel like someone gave me a hug. Which is weird, because you guys are British, and not, in my experience, big on hugs. 😊
Well done, that was an effort to get it back up and safe and alot to get rid of, but you all managed to do it and the homeowner was happy. Arthur is a little treat, cute as well. Well done all.

We had the same problem with our overgrown ivy which covered a wall. Thankfully we put the cut ivy on an bank and it’s taken root helping to stabilise an earth bank which was sinking because of all the heavy rain we had during the last 8 months.

as a construction contractor for many years here in South Texas (USA), I had my share of "ooops" and "failed", so while I am laughing at your misery, my heart also goes out to you. I also applaud you for doing the right thing. I hope the homeowners appreciate that you did the right thing by fixing your "ooops". Well done, lads! I did watch the previous video the other day, and really liked what you did, and was wondering if you were going to give in to the temptation to come back and pressure wash that alley!!
Great that you went to fix the problem and in public view. Even with the vast amounts of vegetation removed, I still have doubts on what is left is supporting itself. If it can’t and will put stress on that wall, I fear that it is only a matter of time where that top third of the wall will get pulled over causing a bigger problem. I hope I am wrong with that thinking but keep up your good deeds
A lot of hedges get planted too close to the wall so all the growth is on one side. Taking off the overhang just made it even more lopsided. It looked mostly like it was Viburnum tinus which can be hard pruned about 2ft off the ground. Just for future reference. Ben and Paul, you did a fab job of tidying up the alley! I hope the hedge stays up.
My thoughts, exactly. Prune it down short for the owners and let them start again. I'm really afraid those viburnum will just pull the wall down. They're way too top heavy to support themselves and the wall isn't meant to support anything like that with the way it's built. Food for thought. I know you'd hate to have to go back and change what you've done, but I think you'd hate paying to replace the wall even more... Arthur is just the loveliest little boy!
Wow! I swear your truck is a lot bigger on the inside than on the outside! It amazes me how much stuff you fit in it to haul off. I honestly hope this job doesn't come back to haunt you.
Oh my 😂😂😂 My father-in-law used to play the exact same prank with his hot teaspoon! Still miss him. RIP. ❤️from Australia 🇦🇺.
Thanks for showing the reality of getting rid of all the cuttings. The council should be donating that for free as you are saving them a job!
What is that place where they dropped off all the cuttings?
Not your problem by a long shot but good on you all for trying to help
I do not think stringing it up will work beyond a few months.
The owner should let you take it down. It’s just a mess. You’ve done a good job!
The homeowner is responsible for keeping the path clear and for maintaining the integrity of that wall which is now at risk.
It is so nice to have laid back home owners. Makes it easy for everyone involved. Neat clean up!
It certainly is, laid back people who trust you to fix it. I don’t believe shouting at others solves anything. Thank you for watching
Superstars! Always above and beyond to help other people.
Thank you for watching, have a great weekend!
I agree. It seems to be really wild on the other side of that wall. It's so heavy, it will pull the wall over.
@@herobrinenoch3522 that's my worry as well. That the hedge is so heavy that next time it falls over it will take the wall with it. That would be an even bigger cost.
The fact that it's old, mature Ivy makes it a wonderful ecosystem.
To be fair, it was their neglect that caused the issues in the lane. They are very lucky to have you guys coming back to do a huge amount work for them and also pay for the materials.
Faithfulness in doing a complete job says a lot about your good character!
So so true! That's our Ben, going over and beyond.
100% Trish, I said let me know and i’ll take it out if needed for them. Thanks for watching
Talk about over reaction 😅

The old spoon trick ,it never fails lol hahaha
I really appreciated seeing how/where all the green waste goes. It always just vanishes! Thanks for the glimpse behind the scenes 👍
Came here to say just this. Glad to see behind the scenes, so to speak.
I hate Ivy on wall too!
Great job of saving a situation gone wrong. I enjoy the silliness you incorporate into your videos.
An enormous botanical monster balancing on the garden wall...
After pruning the balance was lost. You did an excellent repair job and in spring there will be a fresh green hedge again.
It was only balanced because it went all the way down the outside of the wall. It should have been fixed by the homeowners to the inside garden wall .
@@cathtaylor2771 But also the inside had to be reduced, with full weight it will tear down the wall. Now it is resolved the right way.
Sorry the wind got the hedge, but your fix is epic. That walkway turned out wonderfully.
You two make the world a better place. Thank you so much for all you do
Awsome job to the both of you.
In my experience (British) we are big on hugs.
@@rayaqueen9657 I love to hear it! 🙏🏻
Well done, that was an effort to get it back up and safe and alot to get rid of, but you all managed to do it and the homeowner was happy.
Arthur is a little treat, cute as well.
Well done all.
The best outcome is always when you take responsibility and the people involved are good with your response and are willing to work with you...very satisfying and it actually happens quite often....we usually just hear about it when it goes bad!
Very hard work! Well done you two! I think I would have had the whole hedge removed and some shrubs and climbing plants planted. 😊❤❤
All is need in that situation is a little common sense. You got it!
😮 Vous êtes drôlement gentils et généreux d’avoir résolu le problème de ce propriétaire qui a si mal entretenu cette gigantesque haie 🥴… et vous n’avez pas été récompensé de sa part ?
Bravo !
🌸🌸🌸
What a team. You and your dad, with the help of your uncle, best around. Great work.
Ben, you and your Dad and Uncle Paul, all did a fantastic job "fixing," the blown over hedge. Cheers!!!!! Have a safe and happy weekend.
Hopefully the hedge stay below the wall height so the wind can’t catch it and take down the whole wall ! You are both awesome to take care right away 🙏🙏 those homeowners got a job done for free looking forward to the family out tro
Awesome cleanup ❤
I wondered whether it would hold up on the other side of the brick wall. Bless you and your father for making it right once again. 😊
I admire you two so much. Not only do you do wonderful things for people. You're so happy while you're doing it. AND, you're amazingly smart at what you do and thinking of ways to overcome situations that occur. You're wonderful and brilliant at the same time. I wish I could know you two in person. I would be so honored to be your friend.
you have the kewlest Dad !
Great job supporting the top heavy hedges. Don’t know why the homeowners don’t just remove them. Never know about personal preferences. Love you guys!
Hi Ben and Paul! That was alot of strigent work you both did! Now it looks beautiful! Great job, you two!
Paul you're such a crack up! Love it!😊❤
We had the same problem with our overgrown ivy which covered a wall. Thankfully we put the cut ivy on an bank and it’s taken root helping to stabilise an earth bank which was sinking because of all the heavy rain we had during the last 8 months.
Great job guys, hope you went home and had a beer 🍻 afterwards. Thanks for sharing your beautiful children with us always makes me smile 😄
Honestly thanks for the constant support week in and out! means the world
I think your da works well. He has a great sense of humor and very active for his age. Ya'll make a great team. 😊

as a construction contractor for many years here in South Texas (USA), I had my share of "ooops" and "failed", so while I am laughing at your misery, my heart also goes out to you.
Well done Ben and Paul! As always!!
Cheers Tim! appreciate it my friend
I'd have it pruned about 2ft below the ground hahahah
I's Hedera Helix, (European Ivy) a native plant very good for wildife.
Wow! I swear your truck is a lot bigger on the inside than on the outside! It amazes me how much stuff you fit in it to haul off. I honestly hope this job doesn't come back to haunt you. I love your work and your videos are great. I love seeing you and your Dad working together. You're both blessed to have each other and be a part of each other's lives ❤ Thank you for being such a great reminder to help out our fellow neighbors- we really have no idea what they're up against. I wish your whole family lots of happiness and good health always. Keep doing the good works!
Oh no!.. What a pain Ben .. after all that hard work
If the Council had been forced to clear that footpath, they would have sent the bill to the homeowner and they would NOT have returned. Homeowner must be thrilled…………… until the next time! Good effort.
Great Job Ben And Dad. Sometimes bad things happen, and it's how we deal with them that makes us who we are. Happy days chaps. Loved the hot spoon trick , quality. 😅😅
Cheers John! Appreciate it, don’t try the hot spoon trick at home 😂
@FlawlessCleaningServices if I have running room, I am very daring, just replaced her knife block though , so kitchen is out🤣🤣🤣
Home owner said "they are not bothered". That is why they have allowed their garden hedges to block the public path in the first place.
That looks like it weighed a tonne! You, your Uncle Paul and the Kress Ambassador (😂) did well to get it back against the wall before the next storm rolls in! 👏
RJ please don’t call him the Ambassador his head is big enough as it is 😂.. thinking he can burn me with a hot spoon too, the cheek of it. Have a great weekend!
@@FlawlessCleaningServices 😂
Such is life. Trial and error. If we learn from our shortcomings, we grow. Well done. Making lemonade out of lemons.
I hope the weight of that hedge doesn’t topple the fence!
I hope so too. To me that's an unstable and dangerous wall.

They didn't create any problem, they were helping out because of the homeowners negligence.

You guys are the bomb. You do great work and give us a laugh. On this job, you were done. The owners of the hedge recognised their responsibility and were chuffed when you came back. It really is on them. But, well done.

You lads are a couple of first class operators. Top men.
*In the last video I predicted that would happen & it did happen 🙂 Personally the owner should cut it all down & take it out, as they will gain a good metre back of yard again Even with the weight of it all on the one side can still pull that brick fence over. Ivy is really bad.... and can destroy bricks. Looking closely at the brick fence, you can tell it is getting all worn out... needs new mortar in lots of places. 🙂.*
