This is presumably school property, and they have other things to spend their very limited money on. At the end of the day, it's an outside playground in the UK, and they do get like this. It won't have been condemned for that reason - the inspection process seems to involve a lot of kicking stuff, so I imagine some things moved that weren't supposed to.

I am sure that the people who worked to make this playground would be disappointed and dismayed to see the mess it became. I’m glad their hard work to install this creative space has been restored. A spade for digging, a shovel for lifting.

Playgrounds needing cleaning are really important. Glad you have the skills to work on this one and bring it back up to useable and attractive. Thank you to your friend who brought his equipment and pitched-in help as well. There is a bit of Landscape Archeology here, we can agree it is supposed to be a playground but the form has become iffy. As you are doing prep cleaning, what is there is becoming more visible. 24:52, rotating circles indicate tarmac instead of carpet and looks to be colorful edging will eventually fully appear. The wood equipment getting cleaned some is a relief, even if it is intended to be replaced. The colored edge is become whole color sections. Anytime something falls way behind on maintenance it is tough and you are wading through dirt, algae, a mass of moss.... Bits of the idea of it looking new again are getting through. That place NEEDED the two tenacious and skilled people that volunteered their time. You are taking the nearly impossible and reviving that area. Wow, you didn't quit and that is an astounding Recovery by the end.

    Shovels
Have a larger, curved blade that's better for scooping and moving loose materials like dirt, gravel, snow, or grain. Shovels can also be used to dig shallow holes. Traditional shovels have a pointed edge, but square shovel blades are also common for scooping from hard surfaces. Long-handled shovels can provide better grip and hold.
    Spades
Have a smaller, flat or shallow blade with a sharp edge that's better for cutting through compacted soil or creating precise holes. Spades can also be used to dig straight-edged trenches, slice and lift sod, and edge flower beds or lawns. The blade's rear end is threaded, and the foot platforms are curved to allow for more force to be applied when cutting and breaking ground.

"Shovel" is a category of tool. "Spade" is one of the TYPES of shovels characterized by the shape of the scoop-end. "A Flat Shovel is what you're currently using to scrape.

Made it more interesting. I bet the neighborhood was ecstatic over your hard work. We are truly impressed. 🎉👌👏

If I am correct a spade is flat across the wide part and a shovel is curved across the wide part. A spade was originally for cutting the outline of the hole/cutting to be dig, the shovel was for removing the content of the hole/ move large mess of materal.

There are a number of tools that can make ur guys work way easier. Like a brush motor, u walk over the playground and the brush is doing all the heavy work. Is way faster and better for ur backs 😁. Than u don't need the shovel as much. Keep up the great work!

Love the bit of "Drunken Sailor" at the beginning there. This place is really cute! Boy, getting that poor ship back out to 'sea' after she'd beached herself like that would take a lot of kids. :D

A Spade is a shovel but of a specific type. It is curved to a point just like the suit of spades in a deck of cards. A shovel is any tool that is flat meant to dig. A flat shovel is one with a flat blunt end and is used to scrape along a flat surface. A spade shovel is used to spear into dirt or other deep substance in order to make a hole. You don't use a flat shovel to make a hole and you sure as hell won't scrape a flat surface efficiently with a curved spade.

Dont blame yall for only doing partial amount, was alot to do there. Pulling them bushes off of it on side rather than just pushing more dirt on it and cleanibg the wood getting moss of the other things probably take another days worth, atleast its presentable, nice job. More than many people would do.

  • @beardedzeus1337

Spades: sharper and flatter and intended to be used for precise hole digging or cutting through compacted soil
Shovel: more concave with a deep bowl more designed for shallow holes and moving/spreading dirt/soil/etc.
So one is for transporting and digging shallow holes and the other is intended for harder dirt and digging deeper holes. Both are tools for digging holes but they each have their different purposes. Odds are you'd use a spade to break up the dirt for a large deep hole then use a shovel to hoist the dirt out of the hole.

A shovel was created by a farmer. It is the same width & depth as a barn gutter.
Put the tool in, and shove.
A spade is a tool for digging. The word “spade”, actually means “to dig”.
The obvious difference is see. In the blade end; flat & pointed.

Call a spade a spade. It looks like one from playing cards. The pointy part is good for making deep.
A shovel is like what you used here, flat front and good for scooping and shove-eling stuff.

Did you know you can get a big barrel brush attachment for a petrol strimmer? It makes mincemeat of moss removal and sweeping up. Not cheap at £250-£300 but they really do save time and your back. Loving this makeover cleaning. ❤❤
