Grand Concourse Bronx NY Walk. New York Tour

- Опубликовано: 29 сен 2024
- The Grand Concourse in The Bronx NY is a major road in New York. I walked the Grand Concourse Bronx from E 158th Street to E 166th Street with a brief stop on E 161st Street. This stop gave me a view of the famous Yankee Stadium further west, and both the Bronx Supreme Court and Joyce Kilmer Park on the Concourse. The Grand Concourse in The Bronx goes through several neighborhoods and this is one of a series of videos I will be releasing soon. Also featured in this virtual walking tour along the Concourse is The Bronx Museum of the Arts.

all the way to the late 60's and very early 70's it was the very hard working middle class and lots of jews who lived on the course and by late 60's starting in the yankee stadium area of 158'st to 167's working class latin's & blacks sch teachers , postal workers and nurses and young lawyers from the free legal aid society started to live on the on the grand concourse
Your description of the concourse years back is a huge contrast to today’s reality. I wonder if the Jews still own those buildings.
@@EdGoPlaces , no the jews never live where they rent out of , but if their are still any whites in the area their either off spring of the originals , or newbies and a few daring temporary tourists

It’s a very bad area lots of everyday violent crime , drugs and guns sold out on the streets 24/7 , violent mentally ill and drug addicted zombies living on the streets , automobiles constantly vandalized on public streets and filthy streets lots of trash and blasting Loud music from apartment windows it’s a different time with different people who destroyed what it used to be it’s a violent dump now outsiders who visit the area are fearful they walk so scared very uncomfortable and it seems to get worse day by day.
Wow! Such a calm and peaceful walk. Thanks for sharing.
It really is! Thanks for visiting 👍🏼
My childhood neighborhood! Thanks for the tour 😊
My pleasure 👍🏾😊
I grew up on E 167th St and Grand Concourse. That building at 10:15 used to be a club for adolescents back in the 90s, I used to go there to swim in the indoor pool, play basketball and use computers. I wish we had more facilities like that, engaging with the community when you’re a teen in NYC is so important.
This is an interesting piece of BX history I didn't know about. 👍🏾So that was like a YMCA type of club I guess.
@@EdGoPlaces correct, not sure if it was owned or operated as a YMCA, but it was just like it.
I remember it as a YMCA in 1964
170th Street on Walton Ave between Jerome and the Grand Concourse. We used to get lost in the long basement mazes beneath the large buildings on the Concourse. As a kid, I remember having nightmares about being trapped down there, with shadowy monsters chasing me through the dimly lit corridors. So many 1950s memories of hanging out in cliques and roaming the streets in search of adventure and of course checking out the girls. And on the weekends, Fordham and the Concourse was the happening place to be!
Those were some really good memories and thanks for sharing, @nexstory 😊🎉❤️👍🏾

Oh shi-, I spent the first few years of my life in the apartments shown from 1:30 - 1:46. 840 Thomas Gardens.
Nice... I almost missed 840 Thomas Gardens until I was literally stopped in my tracks by the chirping birds. The sounds were so refreshing.
Is it safe?
If I’m asked to choose between “Safe” and “Unsafe”, I’d quickly say safe. It’s not as insane as how some make others believe about The Bronx in particular. However, like most big cities in the US (sure NYC top on the list) crazy things can happen anywhere without warning. With millions of people invading each other’s space, some might bump into each other, might not like how you look at them, or take your stuff. Personally, I think using instincts and basic common sense approach while walking around is important. Nothing has ever happened to me (thankfully) even though I usually walk around and people see me recording them. I get home, watch the news and see crazy things that just happened to someone. Mind-boggling sometimes. You’ll be good. 😊
It’s not safe, here at all. And I’ve been in this area for my whole life, you always gotta look around, crackheads are a regular occurrence here.

you can see the melting pot from hood to hood
Melting pot? It's mostly spanish.
looks like wonderful area to explore during daylight, how's evening like?
Evening lifestyles are pretty average and comparable to most major cities. Bright lite roads with lots of people and car movements. Dead silence is a luxury.
