  • Henry Rollins, Author, spoken word raconteur & former frontman & lead singer of the seminal American Hardcore Punk band Black Flag and more recently The Rollins Band is LIVE in Australia at the moment & on tour around the Country.
    Henry has been to Australia MANY times at least thirty I believe but not 100% sure but Australia has always been a place Henry has enjoyed travelling to even as far back as his Black Flag days and Australians in my opinion would gladly adopt Henry at the drop of a hat he's so loved here.

      I think that’s the case in this country that it’s not gun control but mental health care. It seems we shy away from mental health and illness because of embarrassment or the thought that we can’t let anyone know we’re going crazy. It’s not socially acceptable for certain people so we tend to hide. In my opinion mental health care should be the forefront conversation in gun control.

    • @muslimmetalman
      @muslimmetalman 6 лет назад +7

      Believe it or not there are shitty mental health laws worldwide, but it's only America - the land of "guns are awesome hell yeh" - that has regular mass shootings.
      It's easy for anybody with a massive grudge to just let loose, but with the gun situation as it is in American, it's easy for most rando's to just pick one up. These are weapons of destruction & we treat them easier than we do cars.

    • @DeiNostri

      @James Hunt in terms of actual policies that would be considered “far-left”, we are far behind most industrialized nations. what some people would call “radical left” here is considered centrist in many other countries. i’m not sure what about the us you would considered “far-left” in terms of the world stage.

    • @AIenSmithee
      @AIenSmithee 3 года назад

      @@marshorner1573 I think in terms of politics I agree completely. Democrats have been nearly as far right as a lot of industrialised nations popular right wing parties in the past. They were against gay marriage, decriminalisation of drug use and even hard on crime (Clinton and even Biden in the past), for free trade and free market capitalism (neoliberalism), hard on immigration and they still have no social safety net or national healthcare.....Having said that, as far as the whole world is concerned, America is pretty progressive. In terms of industrialised nations perhaps not so much politically, but remember most of the world is not 'the west' and it could be seen as 'problematic' (as the kids these days say) to respond to a claim about the world with a response that leaves out most of the world as if they are insignificant regarding politics.

      They have a positive use and they have a negative one. If society figures out how to reduce the latter, the politician wont have need.
      While society's popular focus is on "outlaw" behavior as a positive, it will render what it cooks up.

      while its not going to magically make them vanish, do you dispute that gun violence is massively higher in America? that school shootings are drastically more common, and that mass shootings happen very close to daily here, and happen with a much lower regularity in any other advanced country? Mental health does not address the shootings in custody fights, or when an abuse spouse shoots his ex, or in the hate crimes that have gone up in the last 3 years.. again, those happen regularly here, and far less elsewhere. I guess i disagree with one of henry's points, he says that if someone wants to kill someone, then he can sharpen a stick...you know, a the thing about a gun is it doesn't matter if you are obese, physically weak, so long as you can point and click, you can kill someone with a gun. a sharpened stick is either going to require a vulnerable target, like the elderly people that guy in japan attacked with a knife, or a degree of skill to kill someone before they can escape. even the cars and bombs that gun lovers tend to call out require either technical skill, in the case of the bomb, or have a relatively low kill count. Guns are the sweet spot for a violent person to kill a lot of people with little skill or education.

    He has become the opposite of what he stood for back in the early 80's as far as money. Ironically at the same time he still has some good things to say. He is a really a good poet. I have been off and on with his stuff since I saw Black Flag live in 1984. You see, I am an old punk and always will have f*** the government in my blood.

      @@JamesDeWeaver I get it. A lot of these guys sold their soul if you know what I mean. Some bought out along the way. I like to remember the old days of stage diving, clove cigarettes, and body odor, sweat !! And an awareness of what was going on with the government. Lol !! Now, people turn with a blind eye with what is really going on. I am a War Historian, and I have had people in my family fight in every war in this country, and for what? However, at the same time, I do honor my family, just not the government. Peace ! Stay safe !

    Henry needs to get a band together and make another album already - it's been way too long. And I find it hard to believe that he can't come up with lyrics - he always has so much to say. All he has to do is write lyrics about some of the topics he talks about in his spoken word/stand-up act.

    • @somewhatsomething4882
      @somewhatsomething4882 2 года назад +1

      That means incorporating melodies, sometimes rhymes, and other song oriented structures which would probably interfere with the primary expression in his story telling. I can see his perspective.
      No offence but have you ever tried writing lyrics? Were they worth hearing?
      There's a reason bands say writing lyrics is the hardest part. Well for serious bands anyway.
