    In this video, I share my thoughts on the Vacheron Constantin Historiques Cornes de Vache 1955, a stunning vintage-inspired chronograph from one of the oldest and most accomplished brands in watch history. And while the watch is simply gorgeous, it's also almost $60,000. But is it worth it? What are your thoughts on the Corne de Vache?

    Of all the VC’s in my collection, this is the killer. Simply stunning work of art. Yes more Vach on the channel! Unlike most today, I do not like to wear anything over 39mm, so this is the perfect piece. Thank you featuring it. More from the “holy trinity” on the channel please. 😊

    A. Lange und Söhne chronograph movements are truly exceptional to the extent that Patek Philippe decided to up their game and developed ''in house'' chronograph movements after the Datograph was launched. Yet my question is: if you saw the same man wearing a ''Cornes de Vache'' or an 1815 or a Datograph for the first time, with which watch would your impression of him as a watch enthusiast be more assuring, which watch would you be more smitten by? I say VC because some nearly three centuries of immaculate watchmaking cache will always be there...If I had the means to buy the 1815 chronograph or the Cornes de Vache there would be no hesitation for me, needles to say I love everything about the watch!

    • @MasterFornicatorx1
      @MasterFornicatorx1 Год назад +6

      Money being no object, if you want a Lange chrono, you get the platinum Dato for the outsized date and the equilateral triangle it forms with the panda subdials, heft of the platinum, and the peerless movement and its historical import as the first in-house manual chrono caliber of its kind (which stands out with even more depth than on the 1815 Chrono due to the thicker case). If you want a pure dress chrono, you go with this VC, because it oozes elegance beyond Lange’s with the dial indices and horned lugs, it costs less, and it isn’t overhyped and overpriced like Patek’s disappointing chrono (I tried one on in person and was unimpressed, especially for $80,000).

    • @misteratoz
      @misteratoz Год назад +1

      Disagree. The looks of the 1815 are better even than the datograph and even more so than this one here. On top of this the Lange movement looks nicer too.

    • @golfinguru11
      @golfinguru11 Год назад +2

      @@misteratoz The 1815 movement is better but the subdials aren't centered (which looks odd without the date to form the triangle mentioned above), the case is thicker, and the case design isn't special. Plus, 38.5mm is perfect for a dress watch, while the 1815 at 40mm is a bit big imo.

    Well, I was going to buy an A.L&S 1815 chronograph 3 years ago, the rose gold with black dial to be specific. Incredible movement and level of finishing. But when I tried it, for some reason it didn't fit my 17.5cm wrist very well: the lugs are very long, and there is a lip protruding from the caseback where the sapphire display is inserted, making it sit awkwardly on my wrist. I figured that, at this price point, in spite of my love for the model, I did not want to compromise on wearability. I then tried the VC 1955 CdV, and it was love at first sight: incredibly refined, superbly executed, and wearing beautifully. So that's what I went for, in its stainless steel version which, on top of being less expensive, is easier to wear on a daily basis and won't scratch as easily. I have no regret whatsoever on that choice.

    Great watch, but at retail, too expensive - it's £42k in steel (nearly £10k more than the launch price in 2019)! Like most Richemont brands, they've suffered extreme price inflation in Europe. But now the market is cooling, they're far more reasonable on the secondary market.

    I once read that Patek can be considered the king of watches, and Vacheron the queen.
    And this epitomises that sentiment very well I think.
    It has an exquisite shape, beautifully fashioned and designed, with a wonderful dial and rounded hands which contrast so well between the gold and blue. And an exquisite albeit old fashioned movement.
    Cf pateks somewhat austere offerings in terms of design this is more alluring for me.
    But as far as the best goes I would grace Adolf Lange & Söhne with that title. I’m not sure anyone makes chronographs as well as those Germans.
    Very enjoyable fair review many thanks

    If the question is between this or the Lange, then there is no question at all. Lange makes the superior watch (for some). :) VC offers the history angle and is a slimmer dress chrono. Lange’s chrono movement is literally worthy of being in an art museum… it’s gorgeous to behold. But… Lange is like the Omega of the high Horology world. They have some sick tech, but their cases are all a bit thick for my taste. That being said, if it were my money, I’d go Lange.
    I truly hope VC can offer up a truly hype-worthy piece because they are clearly at the bottom end of the “holy trinity” in terms of both public awareness and (I think) desirability of offerings. I love the Titanium Everest Dual Time (though I wish it came with a matching bracelet as well as the strap) and I’m hoping they release the 222 in stainless steel at a price that undercuts the Royal Oak by just a few thousand dollars. With Patek leaving the stainless steel sports watch space (i.e., the Nautilus), the time is right for VC to slip in and fill the void to try and pick up some market share. Good luck to the brand!

    Is it worth it? Well that can be said of any watch, even an $80 designer watch. No one "needs" a watch, so no watch is "worth it". A thing is worth what you're willing to pay, whether it's a $60,000 watch or car. I bought a $64,000 car a couple of years ago - I could have bought this watch instead, but I'm very happy with the car.
