Absolutely elite album. The only thing you can hold against this album (and really every Metallica album in general, even the Cliff era albums) is just how pushed back the bass is in the mix. There are bass boosted edits of this album and moving Cliff to the front of the mix made it 10x better. The band never truly recovered from his death; him and Randy Rhoads were two musicians that were taken from us way too early and had they lived longer would have taken metal in a completely different direction.

Metallica decided to make a song about the Exodus, no subtext other than what already exists in the original story, just a straightforward retelling of the narrative through a metal song...and it's one of the best heavy metal songs of all time
