I just learned of Roni's passing. What a legacy of great music and good will she leaves us. Thank God for the miracle of RUclips which will preserve her gift for the ages.
*_What we have here folks are two of the bona fide 'blue-blood' royalty of country music ... it was in point of fact, Ernest Van Stoneman, [Roni's father] who convinced [a sceptical & reluctant] Ralph Peer of Victor Records to conduct the "Bristol sessions" of July & August 1927 - [Bristol TN is now righteously known as the "birthplace of country music"] ... that led to the discovery of both the Carter Family and Jimmie Rodgers et. alia....Jimmy Capp was of course the premier guitarist of the Grand Ol Opry 'staff band' as well as guitar accompanist of The Louven Brothers, Tammy Wynette, Johnny Cash, George Jones, Dolly Parton, George Strait, Kenny Rogers, amongst many more of the C&W Greats .... this video is indeed a rare treat - many thanks indeed to 'When The Cowboy Sings'........._*
Roni and her whole family taught my step father Bobby Lloyd to play the guitar when he was 6 back in the 50's ... he went on to be a great amateur musician for 40+ years GOD Bless
I got a chance to play with Roni, and we played two banjos. On one riff she looked at me and said, "Red, get back on your paper". I lost it, but we got through the song. Dueling Banjos means two banjos. Check Arthur Smith and Don Reno's version. Smith became quite a rich man from the Deliverance Movie. Warner Bros. thought it was PD. Smith sued and won. So there Hollyweird. You can't outsmart a country boy.
The one, the ONLY, Roni Stoneman, who is now making beautiful music with the angels...
RIP Roni Stoneman .......Godspeed
