When I tell you Dave mate....that this is my FAVORITE of all your diving videos, that is the understatement of the year. And I Love your driving videos. From choice of location, to choice of route, to the scenery, to the pace of the drive, to the weather, to the sense of adventure in it.....everything is just so absolutely wonderful in this one. All the kudos for this.
This drive was a pleasant surprise I wasn't expecting. Not really knowing the lake district at all, it was just all a lucky coincidence. I fancied filming a walk in Ambleside, thought I would film the drive, and the GPS sent me over the mountains, I had no idea it got that steep and as dramatic only after Googling the route after did I learn it is the steepest road in the UK ( well tied with another road in Yorkshire for the steepest road ) I think it is too my favourite drive I have done to date, and will take some beating! 😊👍
@@DavesWalks - It was perfect in so many ways. I recently watched it on my tv, and it makes for such a wonderful experience. I kept waiting for your vehicle and the oncoming ones to meet in a place where there wasn't a section to pull aside and pass, just to see what happens in those narrow lanes when that occurs,....but you were always lucky enough to have a passing section handy. Lol. It made the drive, quite the adventure.
I too was waiting to hit an impass with someone, was just very lucky for the whole drive, usually it just means reversing until a section where we can tuck the mirrors in and squeeze past.
I drove over it ONCE about 1974 in a Ford Anglia on a hot day. Just got to the top and my radiator bolied over. So I removed the rardiator cap - very slowley..... I swore NEVER AGAIN ! and I havent......But enjoyed riding shot gun with you.
You've inspired us to take a autumn holiday up there and go and drive this route Dave! We've done a few of your walking routes in the peaks too! Thanks for all the great ideas mate.
grew up around these places, mid to late 60s, early 70s.. worked on camp sites, in quaries and hotels .. what a blast.. before all the ring roads from the M6 were built!! .. from here I moved to work and live on the orkney isles
One of my very favorite channels, the scenery is always beautiful Amazing video. I liked and watched it fully. Thank you for sharing. Wish you and your family hapiness!
It was 1972 and i was on my Honeymoon with the wife in our old Zephyr Zodiac 3 speed column change, half way up i noticed the temperature gage was visibly moving into the red, barely made it to the top with steam pouring out like a steam engine, left it a good half hour before i dared to undo the radiator cap , those S bends were really tricky especially on the nice day that we went over as there were cars coming down at the same time, so yea quite exciting really , but the old car made it and all the way back down to Kent .
Really enjoyed this drive. I read some Detective series that are in that area and the Dales, to actually see where they are driving is just fantastic. I've driven some in the south around Winchester, but did not get up North, so thanks for the drives. Love the Liquid Sunshine too. Cheers from Texas.
Dear Dave thanks. Travelling in my favourite northern places, we're green thanks to rain. I'm not a motorist. Lancashire lass (before govt decided to call us Merseyside)🕊️
Great video. I used to do this drive in the 90's when I went to my dads in the Lakes for the weekend. A very windy road where we had to stop every two minutes for me or my sister to be sick. Ha Ha
tricky when the sun's not shining. I can't tell whether you're travelling north or south. I try to follow you on a 1997 AA road atlas and spot the road signs of villages you're going through. I need a magnifying glass for both. If you felt like adding the names in the description or annotations along the way... it would be appreciated. cut the speed to half going over the pass to better enjoy the ride.... magnificent
At about 1:22:52 the wipers on your car were not going fast enough to keep up with the rain. Moving to Canada many years ago I still miss that beautiful rain.
I drove the Hardknott Pass about 40 years ago. BMW R80, 2up, luggage. Twice oncoming traffic, "Uphill has right of way!", the rule probably only exists in the Alps and Dolomites. And stopped in 2nd gear. *Grrr The second time my pillion descended and walked the rest.
Anyone else enjoy the rainy videos best? I especially love the rainy walks and hearing the rain drops splatter on the umbrella 😊

Well driven despite the rain, and thank you for a delightful journey.
Rain is the main theme to make this video fantastic
I do oddly enjoy the rain every now and again.. Mostly when I don't have to go out in it..
@@DavesWalks LoL walking with an umbrella ☔️ listening to rain drop is one of the most chill moments in my life
Watching this in blistering heat here in Portugal, I feel so much better 😊 Thanks Dave.

No problem😊👍
We're going somewhere. Let's go Dave! Wait, did we just pass a sheep? It seems strange driving on the left side of the road.
It got a bit tight on those back roads did it not! The vehicles keep getting g bigger but the roads do not hehe. Great drive the day 😊
What car were you driving?
A Suzuki vitara
@@DavesWalks Ah nice 😻
I would love to try Hardknott pass + Wynrose pass, but bringing my LR3 over might be a bit costly 😜
Where was the starting point?
Wasdale Car Park for Scafell Pike, post code is CA20 1EX 😀👍
I think those guys are upto no good. Sheep rustling.
