  • This episode tries to address that age old question, "do you leave it in its original box tied down, wrapped up, vacuum sealed forever, or do you bust it. out and play / display 'em?" Even I am struggling with this dilemma - guilty as charged. So take a look at some of my sets, still in their original packaging and untouched by human hands as it were. There are some older Britains, King and Country, and an older plastic Timpo set. Anyway, have a laugh at my expense, then look at your own holdings!!

I totally agree with you Scott, I want to enjoy my collection, to live every piece in it.

Moreover preserving the box art is nice but you could easily wind up with a pile of boxes. A friend of mine that collects diecast airplanes needs a whole room just for the boxes. At the end of the day I believe that one collector facing dilemmas about what to display or what to collect or whether to unbox or not should always do whatever pleases him.

I also keep soldiers in boxes nbut I don't mind if they are loose, I was reading it's best to stick to a theme when collecting but I collect soldiers from different periods because greed gets the better of me. I just buy what I like

I am a miniature wargamer and scale modeller rather than a collector of classic toy soldiers but I am very interested in them nonetheless. If I were such a collector, while I would retain the boxes and try to keep them and the figures in as good a condition as possible, I would definitely want to get the soldiers out of the box to hold them in my hands and to display them.
I abhor the investors who buy collectibles purely for gain or profit and who thereby inflate prices for the true collectors who collect because they have a passion for the collectibles themselves.

I agree with the other comments. First of all Profit and this hobby in particular just don't mix.
