Nick Offerman on What He’d Be Like as President, Getting Arrested By Accident & New Movie Civil War

- Опубликовано: 15 апр 2024
- Nick talks about coming from a family of politicians, his sister being a powerful librarian in Illinois, his dad being the Mayor of Minooka, IL, getting into trouble in college for stealing Ronnie Milsap cassettes, spending a night in jail with his friends after they were mistaken for burglars, playing the president in his new movie Civil War, and what a Nick Offerman presidency would actually look like.

To have a scowling face and that high pitch chuckle is epic.
I said the same thing!
The picture of Nick’s dad looks like it came straight from the set of Parks & Rec!
As did his story about his sister. A character straight from P&R
Also his sister sounds like a direct inspiration to Tammy II (Megan Mullally), who's actually Nick's wife!
Exactly 👍🏻🤣
😊😅😊😅😂😂
No it doesn’t
His giggles 😅
Literally came to say his little giggle is so funny. Mischievous
They are the best ❤
@@hvrden8260 : He so reminds me of my stoner buddies in the early 80's. lols
❤
@@hvrden8260 Mmm! Those eyes! Plus, he and his wife are a terrific comedy team.
"Decency versus Red.. you know"
Yes Nick. We SO know. 😂❤

I love how Nick Offerman is so reserved in his speech and then giggles like a four year old at jokes.😁💕
That giggle. It's so precious.
Anybody else never watch anything but the monologue except on the very rare occasion someone cool like this comes on?
Oui💁🏼♀️
I always skip the monologue. No desire to hear kimmel talk about trump for 15 minutes every day
@@RioTGeaRMusic better than the fake street bits in the end of the monologue :)
@@RioTGeaRMusic Yeah, I hear ya. It does get redundant. Especially if you watch Seth Meyers and Colbert too. Trump deserves it though. Dude's nuts. I honestly don't know what late night shows used to talk about haha.
bruh I literally never f*cking watch the monologue lmfao
The wee grins, the poignant chuckles. My mom was a librarian. This guy is *_cool_* as heck.
"I experimented with misdemeanors." 🤣
That needs to be framed
As did I... 😅😂
As an ex librarian from Ks. I really wanna meet his sister 😂that aside it’s charming that his entire family is a village literally , I mean how cool is that 🤷🏼♀️
The dating scene must be tough
"A very powerful librarian."
Start callin' her Conan the Librarian!
Don't you know the Dewey Decimal System? ⚔️ 💀
UHF 🤘
😂😂😂! Best comment ever! 🤓📚
Go Nick!
I know that part of Illinois. 😊
Nick Offerman is a true American hero!
I'm a HS teacher. I agree that home ec and wood shop are important. Our HS has both culinary arts, wood shop, and metal shop. A lot of schools have these classes in my state.
The librarian callback was good
His sister is a librarian. This makes it funnier the way they treated the library in Parks and Rec
I’m 61 and I took wood shop, auto shop, home economics and sewing classes after high school.
They should have those classes in High School again, and just basic Economics.
Who asked you? Your 45yr old history is important to who?
@@kevincorey5220 what are you mad about? I agreed with him about economics in school. Really?
@@kevincorey5220normal people like to discuss the differing human experiences across generations. So it's important to me. Could we add some red flags to this guys gun application. He is apparently infuriated by... everything? Or just home ec? Idk either way keep him away from guns.
Well lah de dah.
Ive done more. No I haven’t. 😅
He is a national treasure
I'd totally vote for Offerman!
Hell yeah
Mandatory shop class for all children.
Same here! _Nick Offerman_ and or _Beau of the Fifth Column._ Two men who would make the greatest presidents (both build stuff, and kind of trouble-makers in their youth, too) but neither of them wants anything to do with it.
Isn't it odd, or maybe natural I think, that the best leaders are just people going around setting good examples, and don't want anything to do with Hierarchy? I seek Horizontal power, instead. ❤🌍🌎🌏🌐
Or… and hear me out… ANYONE ELSE!
The only real way to make America great again!
I remember Nick in High School plays. He was incredible then and we all knew he would go far. I can’t wait to see your recent movie.
I'm not even American but this guy is a national treasure
His book where he goes into his upbringing, life and those run ins with the law he described is hilarious from beginning to end, impeccable wordsmith! 😂
Which book is that, Paddle your own Canoe? I'm curious. I'm gonna pick it up.
@@autumnstarrs yes, that's the one
Sounds like it would make a great movie.
I'm currently reading that one after receiving it from a friend a few years ago. Great book so far.
I want my son to grow up just like this dude
A lofty and respectable goal.
@@MrJayehawkagreed:)
I love his focus on soil health, woodworking, handiwork and home economics
Thank you Nick! Farmers rule!! They put food on our tables!
Yes, Nick Offerman For President!! 👏🏼💙💙
OFFERMAN FOR PRESIDENT!! He had me rolling at “decency vs red” 😂😂😂
I'd absolutely vote for him!
...and Three Rivers Public Library's website immediately gets more hits in one hour than in its entire previous existence.
Nick Offerman is a NATIONAL TREASURE & MUST BE PROTECTED AT ALL COSTS.
Nick Offerman, & Jimmy Kimmel together become one of The Best Comedy Duo's We could ever ask for. 🤣 Not to mention, their both two Amazing men. I Love them both so much!! 💜💜
You don't know that... so,
@@morbidmanmusic You don’t know she doesn’t know that, so…
Boy do you ever have a low bar for comedy.
"Decency vs Red"
I adore the true yet calmly delivered dig
I can so relate to Nick’s earlier days. We have a bond now! ☮️💟
Nick as Karl Weathers in Fargo was hilarious and so realistic at the same time!!
Cannot believe how many genius types and celebrities come from the Midwest...especially Illinois.
Someone noticed! Lol, we appreciate your observation. 😊😊
We are VERY proud of your IL upbringing and education🧡💙🧡💙🧡💙🧡💙
As a library enthusiast who has had MANY overdue books, the thought of an intimidating Offerman sister confronting me with those intimidating eyes over past due library books, I’m trembling in my boots! 😱😱😱
Great guest, he makes talking about soil health much more interesting!
Thanks for the plug for the arts and crafts! Time for use to invest in our children.
We need more Nick Offermans in Washington DC 🗳
Grew up in Walla Walla, WA. My junior high girlfriend (now my wife of 48 years) took home ec and typing. She is an awesome cook and a fast typist. I got kicked out of shop class before we started using hand tools. I can't type but i make things in my workshop. Way better equipped shop than the one in junior high. We greatly emjoy our grandkids. Its a good life!
ironically, in this interview, he kind of resembles Ulysses S. Grant, who was the Union commander in the actual Civil War. 🤙
In my best Larry David impression, "eh..."
Nick is absolutely so wonderful what a great energy what a great dynamic with Jimmy just so good
Gotta love Offerman got some guts
no kidding, look at that neck tie - still better than trump's
President Offerman, has a nice ring to it lol
Better than what's been presented in a long time. With a better VP Biden is great, but yeah, definitely.
I LOVE that Nick has a sister, who is a very powerful librarian☮️💜✨🍿
Nick has the best laugh .......and one of my few memories from middle school (bc I was high a lot of the time) was my home ec teacher telling us to "clean as you go"......stuck with me all these years! To this day, I am super tidy!
What a delightful guest!
Having grown up on a farm, Nick Offerman is absolutely right about the importance of agriculture, wood working, and home ec. We can have all of the tech in the world, but without chairs, tables, and food, we would not be very productive. Past government legislature is what got us to these huge industrial complex farms that have ravaged our resources and destroyed small family farms. It's sad, but it's the bed in which they must lie, and it's up to us to make a change at the booth to find the people willing to take on those not so TV worthy debates.
So effortless funny Nick Offerman.. type you can have a hours long conversation with and never be bored
Every now and then the stars align and a comedy show is born - Parks & Rec was just such a show. It gave birth to a generation of comedic actors. Actors that have wholeheartedly entertained us for over 25 years. Why? Because they are unabashedly real in their comedic recollection of life's endlessly hysterical BS.
I Love Nick Offerman - He's comic Gold! The man deserves multiple comedy Emmies!
Ps...so does Kimmel for his endless comic show!!!!
Had to do sewing and woodwork in 6th and 7th grade in Chicago IL. back in the mid 1980's 😺
I love Ron (and Mona Lisa and Jean-Ralphio). I miss those characters! 😂❤
Nick really could be the best president in American history. He has real bipartisan values, he demonstrated immediately that he has more knowledge than 99% of the sitting politicians, let alone the rest of the country, he doesn't seem to actually want the job, which makes his far less likely to cave to corruption, but if he had it, he would do it to the best of his ability, because that's the type of person he is.
Offerman 2028!
Nick! We need you in our politics, for real!
Gotta admit... being caught stealing those is way funnier than just stealin' 'em in the first place. You won that round.
... one of my college friends got caught stealing baby Jesus from Biblical Gardens in Wisconsin Dells . He would never smoke weed with the rest of us since he was on probation. He is now a Spanish teacher in greater Milwaukee but the thought 🤔 of him running black out drunk down main st w baby Jesus as his football is still amusing to me lol 😉
Nick Offerman makes an extremely IMPORTANT POINT: Regular skills we use with our hands (that almost always requires reading/math, etc.) like cooking or building or fixing is no longer being taught in schools and hasn't been for quite some time now. I was shocked to learn my grandson couldn't even read cursive handwriting on the birthday card I gave him. Complained it looked like a foreign language. Explains why the kids coming into adulthood now don't have much of a clue at all. Shame on us all.
Wrote about this in my college essay and that the education system needs to bring it back.
I'm 67 and remember when my junior high girlfriend (now my wife of 48 years) took home ec and typing and I got kicked out of shop class! I was an innocent man!!! Now I build things in my wood shop, fly drones and we enjoy our grandkids. It's a good life!!!
I'm sure your grandson is learning a lot now that you didn't back then. There are only so many hours in a school week, and there's so much new knowledge in every field of study. My two nephews are in highschool right now, and they're learning things that I was taught in my second year of college. I know it's in fashion to say that kids these days have it easy, or that we're lowering standards, by my experience is the opposite. It seems to me they have to learn more, in a shorter amount of time, and in schools that have fewer resources per student than we had.
@@quietreason8679Its true, and while I do think schools should bring back things like woodshop/home ec as electives and be more open to students taking a non-college route, I also don't think its fair to assume that just because they're learning different information it's somehow a failure in the system.
For instance, cursive was invented because the way ink would run from a quill/fountain pen. These are not typical writing implements anymore. So if you have a choice between teaching a child to read cursive or, say, have some level of technological literacy or even just a typing class would prove a much more useful skill in today's world. A kid that learns curvive is like a kid learning latin: its a skill, people associate it with intelligence, you can take some of what you learn and use it to potentially aid you in reading comprehension in some way. But overall, its a dead skill, and unless you're going into very specific careers, there is every chance that while it might make your parent's proud, you will never use these skills you wasted a semester being taught and it won't actually do any good for you career or future wise.
On the other hand, as someone who CRUSHED it in an office setting because of my basic understanding of technology and computers - like, I was a tech GOD to those peope, and my computer skills are fairly mid - any sort of computer training is likely to pay off as its almost guaranteed that regardless of their futures they will interact with technology at some point.
@@GildedmuseThere is a critical difference between something like cursive writing, and a "useful skill" like typing. Don't get me wrong here, I was glad I took typing. It was an invaluable skill until technology evolved further, and I had to learn to type with my thumbs and use voice recognition.
On the other hand, writing in cursive requires engaging both side of the brain and fosters creativity and critical thinking.
Life is about more than learning skills that will become outdated in a generation. It's about learning skills that will teach you to think, learn, and grow for a lifetime.
I would vote for Nic Offerman in a heartbeat!
I would love to have a beer with Nick and find out he's as cool as he his. I took all of the electives in the 70-80's and my mother called it "Bachelor Survival"
Is there anything better than Nick Offerman's giggle? Lucky Megan Mullally! ❤
minooka is huge now. even 20 some years ago it was still just a little cow town. had to play them in football way way back in the day and it was nothing but farms
Football players worked hauling hay and farm jobs in the summer to build healthy muscles and to get strong.
Love you Mr. Offerman!
Totally agree about re-introducing practical skills, but I would add financial education as well.
LOVE that Nick mentions soil health! Honestly there couldn’t be anything sexier!! That’s where we get our minerals and vitamins and that’s very sexy ❤❤❤
Best presidential campaign ever.
'Nick Offerman's sister: President'
-Ron Swanson: vice president
Nick Offerman: a cabinet secretary...
Amazing in The Last Of Us.
Soo Good. One of my top two episodes from that show.
Won an award for his performance.
That episode holds it own
That's right! He was.
Nick Offerman… Best looking beard and mustache of anyone on planet earth. 🥇
2 BEAUTIFUL MEN RIGHT THERE!! NICK HAS BEST LAUGH. I LOVE JIMMY'S LAUGH TOO!! THIS IS AWESOME!! 😊🩷🤘✌️
You need to get out more if you think Kimmel is good looking. Poor thing.
I never watched his breakout show but I get a lot of comfort from his persona. I'd vote for him, I love a handy man
Offerman as Karl Weathers in Fargo (Season 2) is impossibly good. Also happens to be the second best season of TV ever, True Detective S1 being the best. As he negotiates with 'Bear' outside the police station, it's even better than his now famous entrance into the station in the first place. Just watch Fargo S2.
I liked what he said about what he would bring back in schools: Home Ec and Woodworking - the very basics to build from in every day life.
Nick is one of my favourite narrators on the CALM App! He is a terrific storyteller. My favourite is when he does , “The Big Bad Wolf”.
A man with a heart and brain (plus an awesome wife)
100% agree with Nick about schools and farming. Basics!
We had Home Ec and Industrial Arts required for every 8th grade student when I was younger (early 80’s). I agree that every student should learn these basics.
I love Nick Offerman ❤🎉for President!!! 🇺🇸
Nick Offerman for President! His wife Megan Mullally our First Lady! YES
Kudos to my man Nick Offerman! He takes the time to acknowledge how incredibly important our farmers are and would like to see shop/home ec. class brought back. Much love and respect ❤❤
In a service based economy it makes sense to have lots of people who need to pay someone to do simple tasks I learned in public schools. Removing those classes from the curriculum was a deliberate decision to move away from an industrial and manufacturing economy.
Love the way Nick speaks! He did a great reading of Tom Sawyer!
Unironically, I'd absolutely vote Nick Offerman for POTUS! 🤣🙏🇺🇲
Nick for Prez!!!!
Shout out from University of Illinois at Chicago!! We love our Arts!!! 😍😍😍😍😁😁😁😁
Omg, THE Nick Offerman?? From Miss Congeniality 2??
I know right. What became of that man. Was he in other movies?
I love Nick very, very funny actor.❤❤❤😂😂😂
Am I the only one who thinks Nick Offerman, & Seth Rogan sound the same when they laugh? 🤣🤣
LMAO I didn’t even notice until you said so, it’s a stoner laugh for sure xD
@@splatzec, LMAO!! Yes, it is!! Everytime they laugh I just picture the other one laughing right alone. 🤣🤣
Eeeyauh. Can you imagine the two of them in a comedy?
The best natural scowl in all of show business.
Jimmy Kimmel was the best RUclips plaque ever how did he get it?
I still say Devs is the prequel to Westworld. Offerman can a rock a 3-piece too.
Anyone else notice how much Nick compliments and approves others? "That's a great question. Exemplarary citizens. Incredibly tough Dominican woman. Over the moon with this exquisite filmaker." Even Sauron, "You hear about him alot, and you're always on the way to see him." Nick Offerman is the best! He is an amazingly thoughtful comedian!
No one is more American than Nick Offerman.
'one-hitter'... Classic!
Ronnie Milsap....i remember that guy. he had that song "Say No More, Mon Amor"...i think i saw him at a record shop in store promoting that back in the 90's.
No no that's Rex Manning. Common mistake ✌🏻
Actually, Jimmy, I took Home Ec because I knew I’d be the only guy in the class. I do enjoy cooking as well, but I liked being the only guy in the class. All the other guys thought I was crazy, then they realized that I was a genius. The next year, a lot of guys signed up for Home Ec.
Ditto. 😁👍
We had a guy in our home ec.class too. Lol, we made special brownies, and got caught. 🤭🤭 The teacher had to go home.
I went to cosmetology school in the very early 00s. There was one guy in my class. Smartest guy ever. I feel it requires a certain kind of confidence, self-awareness, and humility to be that one guy. Genuinely good dude. And he turned out to be incredibly talented. ❤
Good for you. All guys need to learn cooking. And some go on to be the best chefs in the world. Working in a professional kitchen is hard work, not for sissies.
I was the only guy in my Home-Ec classes in 1976. I made a career of designing and sewing clothes for the past 45 years.
As a fellow small town raised person, I heard and understood each subtle remark. ❤
Excellent guest and conversation. I've enjoyed Nick since Parks and Recreation and the points about teaching kids to cook and make things with their hands and taking care of our farmers
Wow, Nick!! I too was caught stealing at a KMart as a teenager…. I had stolen 45’s (Styx, Boston, Journey-NOT Ronnie Milsap)(although I was a fan!)
I was in MA & wasn’t put in jail but what I find interesting is the difference in tech, given we’re only a few years apart!
I LOVE Nick Offerman! Fell for him in Parks and Rec❤
Deadpan humor genius.
A master of deadpan!

Great interview. But I wish there had been time to discuss his support of an initiative that works to get people back in the work force, based on - what else - woodworking
