@@milesorduna8163 it’s a video game that people are making thousands and thousands of dollars off of. Competitive video games are no long “ it’s just a video game” it’s just as competitive as any other sport.
@ I wish I did, but I don’t but you can’t expect a certain amount of people To be nice and then the other half be able to do what they want these professional, streamers and professional players all talk like this in their streams, and are viewed by millions of people. This is just the nature of the beast and has been since the dawn of time in anything competitive, you can’t expect unicorns and rainbows.
Bro this is forreal. People straight up telling people to DC or never queue is nasty work. It's unproductive. It definitely is better to be a leader, take command, and state what changes and controls need to be implemented for the team to win. Instead of discouraging, teach. But then again, sometimes you can't argue with sweaty boys, they don't want a conversation, they just wanna feel good about themselves.
As a teammate you can help productivity of your team...but so many people refuse to help anyone. How do they expect players to become better if no one helps each other?
I wont let my youngest play Ranked unless he is with me and he has game comms turned off - we use our Discord server. Any comms I hear from others I relay to him. I won't let a twelve year old listen to the BS and hate that comes out of some peoples mouths. Great game though.
Straight up, the Gaming World is a better place because people like you are in it, once again an informative video, full of reason and common sense, thanks for trying to make a difference in the Gaming World, you got 3 of us in my household that are fans ✌🏼
No surprise. Most gamers are comfortable being nasty since they are "hidden" behind a PC/Console screen. Thats because they are not in front of you where you can jab them in the face. I bet if it were the case, the toxicity would almost cease to exist. Comfront 99.99% of them online, though, and they go straight to the TOS trying to get you banned for standing up for yourself. Common problem in this modern gaming and Im surprised the industry isnt doing anything about it
It’s the unfortunate side competitive gaming. Will always be good moments, but no doubt will have the people who treat it as their reason to breath. Insane
If you were talking about people that just start out in sheer rage and such, I'd be with you %100. However, you seem to be talking about the most tame things like throwing subtle jabs at a pooper on the team, so it comes across as if you are advocating for babying people. I'm not trying to be mean, but this is why gatekeeping is important and should not go way of the dodo. For better or for worse, this is the culture. You either want to be a part of it or you don't. Expecting it to change for you in the minority is not going to go well for you. Non ranked modes are for play play. Ranked modes are for sweating. Moreover, it is a competitive environment by default. Trash talk can and should be occuring in ranked modes. It helps make or break a person to which in turn helps filter people out. If you are falling into the "being broken" category, ranked modes may not be for you, and that is A ok.
I’m sorry but not telling someone that their doing something bad.. babying people. Even if your nice to them.. they always get defensive. This is every ranked game.. it’s the nature of ranked. Go watch old school lan cod and see what they say to each other in person. People need to grow a set
Sometimes I can understand why some players get mad because you can be doing most of the work while you got other teammates not pulling their weight but still want the benefits.
Actually a great take I’ve played comp games for years and it has been just normalized but it’s super refreshing to hear someone that actually thinks that the way people talk in the gaming community is out of control haha
Love your videos! Every community needs more people like you to help counter the toxicity, there’s far too much of it in spaces meant for all of our enjoyment and brief escape from reality. Everyone is new at some point, we should spare as many as we can the experience of being lambasted for it.
Most of the people who freak out aren’t even very good themselves half the time. I understand getting frustrated if somebody is intentionally in comp, not listening, or throwing but even then still never ok to start attacking them personally.
Also, this is my first time seriously playing competitive games since college days OW1 (which, frankly, felt less toxic personally). Back then, I didn't mind toxicity as much, but now that free time is more limited, my tolerance is much lower. I spend my efforts avoiding negativity at work, relationships, neighbors, etc. - why voluntarily subject myself to it in my leisure time, which should be the least toxic part of my life? Frozen Throne and CS LAN are peak childhood memories, but now I question whether to stick to co-op/single player. Some banter is fine, but excessive toxicity? Even middle schoolers would kick you out of the group back in my days. And we certainly weren't toxic to complete strangers we just met. There were really toxic group back then too, of course, but just not my type. If I came out of Marvel Rivals session feeling the same or worse than I came off work, then that's really a wake-up call for me.
I used to play college football so I’m used to the trash talking. If we being real in a competitive setting no matter where you go this happens I’m not excusing the actions just saying people tend to take things seriously you can’t knock anybody but just avoid those who are!
You are so right on here! There’s no reason for this toxic chatter at all in my mind. Never. If the goal is to improve somebodies playing, being so dark and toxic never helps. We can do better. 💯. I couldn’t agree with you more.
Since its new to you I get it, but this isnt a video game thing, this is the people in traffic blowing horns at you and tailgating, the people on twitter saying to off yourself, the people in YT comment sections, the people talking in group chats about other races and people. This is a human thing bro bro. Venting in this video I get it, unfortunately its not going anywhere it's human nature.
It's not a problem exclusive to Marvel Rivals, obviously. I've been a part of a handful of online multiplayer game communities and almost every single one of them has a fairly large toxic element but especially the games with a competitive aspect. I'm also old enough to have the first-hand experience to say...yes, it has gotten worse over the past 10 years or so. It is indicative of a shift in gaming culture itself, the maturity and sense of social responsibility of the players. It's partly self-entitlement, partly social isolation and partly lack of emotional awareness. There's no easy answer, unfortunately, other than to just make the decision not to let it affect you and stick up for people where you can.
agreed, I play solo ranked only and I have encountered so much shit talking. I guess all you can do is report them after the game and don't let it get to you
