Recently, my mom and I went out to North Platte, NE to see Big Boy. On Thursday, August 5th, we went to the N Airport Road railroad crossing on the east side of town to do some railfanning at the “machine vision” defect detector and saw 5 trains. Here, UP ET44AH 2692 and SD70AH 9002 lead the eastbound I-NPDU with 94 wells on main track 2 on the triple track main (Kearney Sub) as they go through the detector around 9:40PM, CDT. It was too dark to see the locomotive numbers. We were waiting for the 16,400 foot long C-OKNA with 296 cars to show up but they tied down in Maxwell as I would find out the next morning. This was the last train I would see that night.
I was joined by fellow railfan and user Lane, aka H1 & Santa Fe that evening and spent most of the next day watching freight trains, seeing Big Boy and touring Bailey Yard with him before heading to the Larimer County Fair later that night. A link to his channel can be found below. Enjoy!
