Btw, remember how during Warrior of the Mind, Athena initially sings 'mind' with a single sustained note, while Ody does a melody. At the end of WotM, Athena switches to using the same melody as Ody, to show that she is opening up and accepting his viewpoint.
In this song, at the end, the last 'goodbye's are sung in the same melody as WotM, but the last one Athena goes back to a single note, showing how the relationship between her and Ody has deteriorated.
So happy I wasn't the only one to pick up on this. Jorge (creator of EPIC for those who don't know) is so amazing about hiding these little notes that help spell out an entire story, or in this case the deterioration of a relationship.

Athena's voice is absolutely marvelous. All singers for the gods are so monumental and have such fascinating range, it's hard to pick a favorite. Hope you have fun with the next saga too!

The marching snare, an ancient symbol of armies heading into battle, being used for Athena, goddess of wisdom and warfare, is such a perfect fit.
"Kicking where it hurts" yeah. One one of my favourite things, in soem tiktok we were shown script of song, and after Odysseus yells "You`re alone" there is caption "It hurts Athena"

Heard something recently about the "just a man" moment that blew my mind. Listen to the piano when the chorus sings, it runs down the entire piano from high to low in like 2 seconds. The person described it as Athena "throwing the entire piano" at Odysseus.
"This day, you've lost it all" hits really hard in hindsight.

I didn’t realize it until this video, but at 15:50 where she does the high E flat of “This is my goodbye” the notes she‘s singing are a callback to ‘Warrior of the Mind’ specifically the last time she sings the line “Warrior of the mind” I believe she uses the same notes.

The drums during Athena's part always remind me of a snare drum, which considering Athena is a goddess of wisdom in combat, and the snare drums connection to the military, would make a lot of sense.
Ooo, there’s another really strong female vocalist in a future saga I’ll be interested to hear your thoughts on. I love hearing all this technically analysis of the vocals, even though I don’t understand all of it. God Teagan’s voice really is so strong.
I don't know if you are close to it yet or not, but I hope you'll do the animatic by Ximena Natzel for the song No Longer You! Not many people cover that one specifically and I think it's a shame, they definitely deserve the look!

I believe the percussion in this song is actually marching snare, which is just so cool as someone who plays marching percussion instruments
So, there's a nice reprisal of Warrior of the Mind that makes this song hurt more:
"You're not looking for a mentor, I'm not looking for a friend. I mistook you for a general, what a waste of effort spent" is a reprisal of "If you're looking for a mentor I'll make sure your time's well-spent."
This is actually the song I accidentally opened and was sucked into this whole odyssey of Epic
Great analysis Peter, to undoubtedly a world class performance by 2 fabulous singers. Another singer you should definitely react to is 20 year old Lucy Thomas from the UK. She's just downloaded onto utube an incredible version of the classic song "One Moment In Time." Many reactors have said that she has the most beautiful female voice on the planet. I'd love to see your opinion on this stunning singer.

Warrior of the Mind isnt a bad song, but I think My Goodbye is were Athena's VA _really_ shines

Love hearing you break down the beat! So much is going on with the instruments/vocals that it'd probably take me 30 listens on repeat to catch whats going on underneath!
I also feel like Athena is the best singer, and it makes me sad that she's not a more prominent figure in the story that we don't get more of her.
But the absolute balls to have an argument with a God and just straight up call them "selfish and prideful and vain." And essentially cow them into the defensive position.
I think it helps that he's known Athena most of his life, so he feels comfortable enough with her to tell her off. Like yeah she might be mad, but she probably won't smite him on the spot like most other Gods or Goddesses would have.

Wolfy is my favorite animator on yt, they have a really cool unfinished redo of 'Warrior of the Mind' in his 'Wip Graveyard' that uses a tapestry motif. Totally worth checking out.

3. When Athena sings "this is my goodbye", it's in reverse to how she sang "warrior of the mind".

"Strongest singer in the cast" constantly gets replaced for me, especially as we get further into Epic. Everybody is incredible, but the bar somehow even though the bar is incredibly high, every saga seems to just set it higher.

kind of unrelated but I never realized how high some treble clef notes are for people to sing because I've been playing violin for so long. For the first couple videos I was like b flat is high? But it is, my perspective is just skewed by having to play up to like I think a6?

@@crimsonmaverick8237 RIGHT!? Mircsy's Athena is my FAVORITE hands down. Like all the other characters across different animatics are awesome. But only one Athena is perfect. And Mircsy's animatics feel more like full on animations from anime.

My Goodbye broke my heart. Athena had literally been with him since he was a kid, but she dumped him when he decided to choose his own path of carrying on his friend’s philosophy of being kind.
And maybe this is a hot take, but I blame her for his burst of anger and shouting his name. He literally went “lady. We’ve lost so much. I just want to leave”, but she kept pushing him to kill.
Some of it is his own self-righteousness too. This was a good way for Jorge to stage something that was little more than an absolute face-palm moment in the source material but Odysseus’ self-destructive, self-righteous pride is still present here: “I blinded you, left you alive, and embarrassed you because you did not live up to my morals so here’s my calling card, monster” meanwhile mans is dropping babies from a wall because the gods told him to be ruthless… or else.
@@grapeiciesdefinitely was a facepalm moment in the original Odyssey. I still think that if Athena had left him alone to grieve he wouldn’t have been overcome with emotions and been “reckless, sentimental at best”. I definitely see how pride for conquering Polyphemus mixes into it- “remember us. Remember _me_ , because I avenged my friends”- but I still see her pushing him as what brought that pride and anger to boil over. The final push he needed to act foolishly in his torn, emotional state
