    For people with severe arthritis or other conditions that can cause sudden swelling, open rings are fantastic- for exactly the reason you said to avoid them. When my hands swell, no need to ruin my ring to get it off. I can just bend it out a little bit to squeeze it off.

    • @muffin1138
      @muffin1138 5 месяцев назад +38

      That is a big pro, I'd still avoid doing this to often and be careful to not bend it open to widely, the ring will get less stable and break at some point :(

    • @vinnvii
      @vinnvii 5 месяцев назад +7

      Maybe get the opening under instead of on the gem gap

    • @BijouLab
      @BijouLab  5 месяцев назад +137

      In theory, absolutely! But rings that have gemstones set aren’t meant to be bent open and closed as it will very likely loosen the prongs that the gemstones are held in with and you may end up losing your stones. It’ll work in a pinch and may be good for a ring with no gemstones but not something I’d recommend doing frequently.

    • @antiheroes7972
      @antiheroes7972 5 месяцев назад +17

      It is Alexandrite. Some gems are greener but full color change Alexandrite often can look purple and depending on light turn green or red

    • @antiheroes7972
      @antiheroes7972 5 месяцев назад +2

      It is Alexandrite, so just ask a jeweler to make a Toi et Moi out of 2 alexandrite gems between 1ct and 2ct each.
      This one looked like a cushion cut and pear cut.
      I've seen two round cuts and that looks pretty good, maybe pear cuts facing opposite ways would probably work too

      Not to be nitpicky but the way she pronounces it isn't the correct way either, whilst she's saying Twahh ay Mwahh it should be Twa ay Mwa, no need to elongate the vowel sound and it's a crisp and concise name.

    The same carat weight stones look like they'd make the ring uncomfortable. Like the fingers on either side of the finger the ring is on would constantly be bumping into the stones.

  • @mollrop

    Can you make a video about what to do if your ring is difficult to resize? This is something no youtube jewers talk about ever!

  • @hashtagmate
    @hashtagmate 5 месяцев назад +1

    I would NOT want the two stones to be the same size that looks weird. One should be considerably larger and an elongated shape, and one should be smaller and less elongated. In my personal opinion (I'm right tho😂)

    • @BijouLab
      @BijouLab  5 месяцев назад +2

      Mine are 3.75-4 and I think this size can pull off a lot of styles! If you want something balanced, keeping the stone 2 ct or below will look best.

    I had a closed toi et moi ring made with a 10x8 emerald cut and a 10x10 heart brilliant. I chose those because my husband is very logical and simple like the emerald cut, but I’m a bit fanciful and extra like the heart cut. Both stones are moissanite set in 14kt white gold.

    Wouldn't an open ring be a good thing so you can adjust it's size to to finger? My finger change size depending on temperature and i was considering getting an open design to avoid losing my ring

    • @BijouLab
      @BijouLab  5 месяцев назад

      It often will become misshapen and opening and closing can definitely loosen your prongs and cause you to lose your gemstone.

    What kind of wedding band would you wear with a toi et moi ring?

    • @BijouLab

      Usually a curved one since they’re often low set. You can set them more traditionally (higher) and use a straight band though!

    Since you design rings, do you know anything about deer antler rings and if they are sturdy enough for a wedding or engagement ring? Me and my partner are both taxidermists and we thought this could be a cool idea for our rings. Sorry for the weird question!! Love your videos!

    • @BijouLab
      @BijouLab  5 месяцев назад +3

      Fun question! However you would likely know much more about the strength of deer antlers than I would. Sadly, not my area of expertise, sorry!!

    • @polymathica
      @polymathica 5 месяцев назад +3

      I had a lignum vitae (wood) ring that I wore as a wedding ring. It was okay for a while but eventually the moisture got into it and it snapped. I’m pretty sure antler would be better than wood, but I would anticipate it breaking eventually. Maybe find an antler of significance from your wedding year and have it made into many rings and every time one of your rings snaps, then go and renew your vows with a new ring for that person. I think some jeweler could inlay the antler into metal. I think I’ve seen something like that on Etsy.
