    Alexandrite is so beautiful! Go for a lab grown, its so much more affordable (we’re talking $600 for a big lab grown stone and literally $10k for a 1 carat natural stone) and honestly lab grown usually look prettier than natural

      Also helps that lab grown is a more ethical sourcing. I personally don’t want a blood diamond on my ring finger, y’know? It’s really alarming, to me, that we can recreate these gems in a lab, and yet corrupt mega corporations will still make use of modern day slavery to mine for precious gems. How many men, women, and children could be saved from excruciating deaths if everyone just said no to traditional gemstones and got a lab grown hunk of rock?

      Where did you find 1ct for only 10k 🤯

    • @lydiagentry6467
      @lydiagentry6467 7 месяцев назад

      @@sarahmcneil4940 Now I’m not an appraiser, so I’m not super knowledgeable about exact prices. But natural alexandrite is extremely rare, and natural crystals larger than 1 carat even more so. That’s where you get prices of $10k/ carat. Plus, natural alexandrite is not as brightly colored; they usually look brownish or army green. Lab grown alexandrite is MUCH cheaper, usually closer to $100/ carat! And its really pretty and brightly colored!

    I own some Moisannite, and I just love it (earrings and a cocktail ring). I don’t try to pass it off as anything but what it is - a really “sparkly gemstone”!! 😊

    • @mitsusah2612
      @mitsusah2612 7 месяцев назад

      It is sparkly, but also very interesting! I read that at least a big portion if not all natural moissanite comes from asteroids that fell on Earth. So it's a really sparkly space gem. Though most moissanites in jewelry are lab made fron what I've seen. So clones of space gems. :)

    • @hailyjohnson407
      @hailyjohnson407 7 месяцев назад +16

      I love moissanite too for what it is, not what it isn't! I love its sparkle, its history (origin discovery in a meteor), its ethical production (all used in jewelry are lab grown), and its affordable price tag. It is not a diamond, it doesn't look like a diamond, but it's beautiful on its own as its own stone!

    • @maxolivia4911
      @maxolivia4911 7 месяцев назад +9

      I don't know who is getting this upset over people potentially trying to avoid judgement from others by passing their moissanite off as a diamond. It's literally the smallest deal in the world. I don't and I tell people it isn't a diamond all the time. But I understand why people do pass it off. Because people are really really mean about non diamond rings

    • @Gleowyn
      @Gleowyn 6 месяцев назад +2

      @@maxolivia4911 It's almost hilarious how judgmental some people are. At the end of the day it's all just sparkly stones. Pretty, yes, but I don't care how expensive it is, or what it is. If it's pretty and nice (with preferably no slave labour) that's what matters.

    don't forget Ruby is basically the same mineral as Sapphire, its just a specific shade of red/pink. ruby can also be made artificially. Sapphire and Ruby are used in industrial applications that require an extremely low friction movement point or high scratch resistance, such as "jewels" on the pivot points of gears of manual watches or certain smartphone screens. even the windshields of fighter-jet cockpits are made from clear sapphire these days

    So fun fact about alexandrites that I know from personal experience: the color of the stone can also change based on the type of glasses that you have on while looking at them. For example when I have my sunglasses on while in sunlight my right has a pinkish-purple color, while without sunglasses/regular glasses on it looks green. My sunglasses are polarized, in case you’re wondering.
    Either way, alexandrites are beautiful… and very expensive so keep that in mind when buying/designing jewelry

      A "100% natural" is more expensive than a diamond because it is so rare. One of the reasons why they are created in a lab is so it would be cheaper than a diamond and there is no way to tell the difference between a lab grown and a "natural" because they are chemically the same , basically only the place of growth is different.

      You don’t. All moissanite used in jewelry is lab grown.

      Duh? Because nothing other than a diamond is a diamond. A lab grown diamond is a diamond, which is why it's not on this list. The list is called diamond alternatives. What about that was difficult to understand

    just because they are not diamonds doesn't mean they are cheap. they are in some cases only slightly less expensive than a diamond.
