My Father and his family came through in 1906 when he was 3 years old. They came from Palermo. In the 90's when Ellis Island was refurbished and the Wall of Immigrants was built I had my dad's name put on. He will forever be associated with Ellis Island and will live on forever. My Dad did well. Graduated college. Became a Doctor. Got married and had two children. I was one of the lucky children ! I am so proud of what he achieved. 🇺🇸🇮🇹
BTW..my grandma who died when I was younger, refused to be buried back in Italy. She loved America! She rests in Omaha, NE next to my Grandpa who also believed in America was a promised land. Rest in peace!
Excellent video. Used it with my students and they were very interested in the content, especially the real life examples. Thank you for sharing this resource!
It's a crying shame that such a historical place as Ellis Island was allowed to deteriorate for as long as it was before being picked up by preservation organisations such as the Statue of Liberty/Ellis Island foundation, Save Ellis Island, etc. They've pretty much saved the Main Hall, but what about the rest of Ellis Island? How about cleaning up and restoring the hospital? They were just as important as the Main Hall, aren't they?
Bravo America....This is amazing to see the love and restoration of a great historical building. I am so impressed. This is what make's America great xox
My grandma came to America through Ellis Island in 1948??? And was reunited with my grandpa who came before her to get land, job, and opportunity in America. If it wasn't for them, I would not have been born here in America. I always wonder if they did not take the chance of faith for a better life in America, where would I have been born and became...Interesting!
Lucy Inserra my dream is to run for president of the United States in 2040 since I heard elis island has been shut down by the Democratic party and me as a republican president I promise you that I will bring elis island back to business. Cabrera2040 Let's keep America safe and protected.
I watched this video in history and i would like to say it is very informational, this video may contain some racism but it really puts it out there for others to know. Thank You for making this.

Gee instead you could research and write a 5 page paper, single spaced with no internet resources. Suck it up you spoiled kids! Your teacher was very nice to give you a video to just click play on and the sit back and be spoon feed the information. Be grateful you have the great and mighty internet available to you to learn so much for free off of it!

10:20 I have Italian and Armenian background, sums up my love hate relationship with bread 😂. I’m Australian but this was fascinating, our country wouldn’t have a massive migrant boom till the 1950 & 60’s when my grandparents migrated.
This is one of the best historic places in America. It was an emotional experience for me.
When was this documentary produced?

My grandparents all passed through Ellis Island from Ireland in the mid 1920s. This reminded me of their courage and hard work.
Were they Reillys???
@Aine Farrelly Reilly. O'BRIEN, Higgins and Hickey. They met and married in St. Louis. 😁☘️
I found my family members on some of these lists, many thanks to the Ellis Island Museum for making them available!

I hope we will continue to remember this history and create the opportunities for those who continue to come to America.
Fantastic! Thanks so much for telling us. We love to hear that Great Museums is helping in the classroom. Very inspiring!
