- In this episode of Munchies, we meet Toni, the second-generation manager of Bar El Tomas de Sarria, known for serving up one of the best patatas bravas in Barcelona.
Toni's father started producing the famed tapas back in the 70s. Here, Toni teaches us what exactly goes into a great plate of bravas: passion, love and quality olive oil.

He speaks English, and sometimes he does pause or skip a few things, but when he speaks, you can hear the passion wanting to burst out. I love that. Hope to come to Barcelona one day.
They spit water on tourists. They don't want you
They are crowded they dont want tourists
Drink every time Patatas Bravas are mentioned 😆
I’m wasted now 😅
i died
🤪 I did.
Kinda the point of tapas 🍷
I'm f*cked already and it's been 30 seconds.
thank you #Munchies and #Vice for introducing us to another local must visit. #Tapas #Barcelona
I always get on well with Catalans and Spanish. Respect, politeness and some humour and you will get it back 10x. They are so patient with tourists. I think Irish people get on with Southern Europeans a lot. We really like to enjoy life.. and party
did you read the news today?
@@LaChartre yeah... And it's not representative of Spanish/Catalan workers and people I've ever met
My man was fast eating that dropped piece kkkkkkkk
Every single local in Barcelona has been to El Tomás. They really are that good.
I live one street below the bar, i know Toni, he's such a nice guy and i hate his potatoes to be so good..! I stop by to take away some every week!
All 1.6 million 🤡
Indeed, it is a wonderful meal that is also light on the stomach. I highly recommend it
I thought it was overrated until I found myself ordering one every time I went to the bar. It's addictive trust me!
[PS - €3 for a single portion of olive oil fried patatas...I'm sold even more]
El Tomás, timeless classic. My grandfather used to go there with my father when he was little, my father brought me there since I was a kid, and if I have kids I will make sure they try the Tomás' bravas too. Best in the city, almost unrivaled.
Who thought Luka Doncic was in the thumbnail 😅
Lol

😂😂😂👌👌👍👍☝️☝️ me..
Dude, see u tomorrow. Got an early train into Sants.
We were in Barcelona 6 months ago and the city is amazing! Beautiful vibe, people and food. cant wait to go back
The simplest things are often the most delicious
WOW NICE SUPER 🎉🎉😢😢😢🎉🎉🎉🎉, SUBSCRIBED
Wish I knew about this when I was in Barcelona. Thanks for Sharing!
im an angry potato when i can't have patatas bravas
How sad to have a culture where patatas bravas is a big deal.
DeepFrying with olive oil is wild ❤❤ that’s dedication to quality
refined olive oil can be heated to high temperatures
It's just nothing. Like all oils, olive oil is just an oil.
On the other hand: just a guy who fries potatoes in a place you are not from.
Potatoes are fried.
Garlic sauce is nice tho.
Yep, industrial seed oils should be banned.
@@MP-oh9lt i'm just talking about costs buddy
@@jamo3976 my buddy im just talking about some spaniards making fried potatoes seam like good food.
The locals don't want you to visit Barcelona.
That's actually not true. If you are going to be a sheep and just follow the news, you'll be being one of those millions of idiot who have no idea.
Locals do want tourists but want you to stay in Hotels and not Airbnbs. Spend your money on local restaurants not Mcdonald's, Hardrock Cafe, KFC or Nobu. Don't do stupid shit like standing in the middle of a busy street to take selfies or placing your phone on the escalator to film yourself coming out of a metro station in Sagarada Familia.
Read a little bit. It'll make sense.
Oh, eff off. The place is busy already as is. Now the tourists will come down (more like up, in this case) as well.
I’m Scots/Irish and I base a Spanish restaurant on their patatas bravas. I know a tattie when I see one.
Do it well, do it good.
I agree. If you can't do a proper chip/fry, then what are you even doing as a restaurant? Such a good litmus test.
Hermano, tienes un muy buen inglés, con un poco el acento, pero muy bueno 🤣
Beautiful place with a soul! It's always a pleasure coming to this bar!
something for the vegetarians : )
and since youtube deletes my comments to replies to this, i need to edit this one to include my response to one of the replies:
to respond to the person who said "you might want to research bio-availability of plant based proteins ....." i responded by saying "you might want to google the words "Patrik Baboumian" and rethink that statement
oh, and rice farming is worse for the planet than "tofu" farming (tofu farming, lol ok) and POTATO farming in particular is one of the least environmentally destructive staple food sources on earth AND one of the most resistant to human caused climate change, unlike the endangered rice. it is the food of the future, literally
so, yay potatoes!
Ya pure carbs and basically nothing else.😊
@@BrodyYYC there's a bit over 5g of protein a serving by the looks of it. pair it with a 50g protein tofu shake and all good : )
@@BrodyYYCnah, i think YOU should google the words "Patrik Baboumian" and sit down
@afghanica you might want to do some research on the bioavailability of plant based protein. Not to mention how terrible tofu farming is for the planet.
@@BrodyYYC don't eat meat then, 90% of soy is used to feed animals LOL
Ok, It's very nice
Luka Doncic in offseason mode
Not even gonna watch it
Best Patatas Bravas are and always will be in MADRID
I do realize the title says that they are the best IN Barcelona.
I’ve been to Barcelona about 20 times but never tried this, definitely next time and I’ll be calling here.
So its just a tiny plate of chips with garlic mayo 🤔
They look exactly like uk chip shop chips.
Was there a few years ago and had the patata bravas great.
Ahh be! Anılar...
I think it's delicious, especially since it's fried in olive oil. Great.
So it’s just chips and mayo basically
... all they do is literally peel potatoes slice them and dunk them in oil ffs. it's stupid
We were just there today. It was a trek from our accomodation BUT … every tapas was excellent. The bravas was excellent. Service excellent.
Well worth the effort.
عامل ممتاز يحب عملة ويجيد التعامل مع ماكينات اعداد الطعام
in april i was there with my friend and its really special.. you take the first patatas bravas in your mouth and you get instant explosion its addictive :D next time Barcelona we instantly will go there.. many locals there we kinda feel wrong but all the people were very friendly
Huge respect for the fact he's frying this in olive oil.
Patatas bruavas
The only downside is, if the locals would see you eating this - they'd probably protest, might throw a bucket of water on you, and ask you to leave
Was in spain over two months ago. Missed this food.
Why not make this dish in Africa with forgiveness
Why not make this dish in Africa with forgiveness
yo, why they blur Toni's name on the shirt? Is it possible that that's not Toni? They just had Luis that only speaks English?
helo patatas bravas how r u patatas bravas
Too much focus on the potatoes and nothing about the sauce, which is what truly makes the difference in a patatas bravas.
Chips with garlic mayo and hot sauce?
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
So chips with chili and mayo sounds like food from a chippy in brum
I was expecting patatas bravas like some dish or something and bro made chips/fries with garlic mayo. However, I am sure they are amazing - it made me hungry.
Wow nice❤
Patatas Bravas, that typical tapa from Barcelona that is actually from Madrid XD
The thumbnail really dirty, i thought it was luka doncic for a hot minute...😂😂
Waw mashaallah
just saying you should have done this video in madrid; just because its a traditional madrid tapa, in barcelona they are made different, both good, but nontheless different.
that why the titles says best bravas in barcelona? xd
عمل رائع
The best patas bravas I had in Barcelona was at a restaurant at a place called Salút
best ones are outside Barcelona at "Nem" in Sitges
Nice home made chips
Well I'm so there and avoid the water pistols!
me coming your link
Thick fries with mayo and hot sauce...
Good
Dus gewoon een patatje mayo
I like potatoes 🥔
absolute garbage, don't waste ur time.

nice video
It’s to see that younger people wanting to keep family history alive.
I see that Luka Doncic is a man of many talents
Bravas are from Madrid originally
looks good for late night munchies 🤤
❤❤❤
Good
Not enough red bravas sauce on top. And I prefer when the potatoes are cubed and not fry shaped!
ok next time the 100 year old restaurant will change that for you, xd duh
I hear Spanish not English 😂
So nice 😂
So this is Luka's side hustle
A lot of tourists no more 👋
True , tomas its the best
Keep going I like potato
Fry with olive oil 🤔.
Open in Scotland. Bingo
