  • On the second day of our trip, we got up earlier and headed a little farther west to Wilbern, with the intent of seeing a few trains from the bridge at Tax School Road. We got a quick no-tripod catch at the bridge at Ransom before continuing west to Wilbern, where nearly the same thing happened upon our arrival. After setting up properly and spending a few hours both roadside and trackside, near the abandoned pumping station in Wilbern, we moved east, following the movement of a work train set to work between Toluca and Leeds. Upon catching aforementioned work train as well as a westbound intermodal in Toluca, we moved to Ancona, east of the work zone and its concomitant speed restrictions. After seeing two trains at Ancona followed by an hour-long dry spell, my father set out for Dixie's pizza in Streator at about 5:30 (we wanted to try the "Pepperoninator"; it ended up being really good), while I continued to wait trackside in Ancona. Over roughly forty minutes of situational irony, four trains passed through, including the trip's first instance of non-NS, non-UP foreign power in the form of a KCS GEVO, as well as an eastbound local, led by a Yellowbonnet GP50 and two other standard cab EMDs. They say that the best way to get a train to come is to leave, however traffic continued as it had been when my father returned. Following a couple more hours spent at Ancona, we headed east once more after the passage of a westbound local move, with our sights set on the same place as the day's unofficial start, at the bridge in Ransom. Our day concluded in dying light after a beautiful sunset over Ransom.
