  • I bought some fake Quick-Latches about 6 weeks ago and one has started to fail, so I made a quick video on a comparison of the two and why the real ones are much better, and worth your money.

    I will tell you the difference between the chinese knockoff and the real ones. You can feel auch a difference in weight because both use an anodized outer aluminum body but the important inside parts locking mechanism ect are very different the "chinese" knockoffs use cheap tin metal and the same aluminum on the outer body on the locking mechanism. The genuine quick latch uses stainless steel and hardened brass parts thats why they feel better mde and the weight is heavier from the thick brass that will last forever after years of use you might feel the spring get just a hair softer but they will never just pop loose or fall apart.

    I must've got a lucky batch of the fake ones. I put the rods in a vice, then grabbed the heads with some 90 degree needle nose pliers and tried my damndest to pull the cap off the rod and couldn't lol

      Nothing wrong with the fake ones, I feel like this is a biased video.
      Mine are fine and you can't pull them off.

    • @dustondoesit3913
      @dustondoesit3913  2 года назад +1

      Mine didn’t fail until being on for a while, that being said, I held no bias towards either. When the cheap ones failed me is when I formed my opinion about them.

    • @SidewaysGts
      @SidewaysGts 2 года назад

      Reality with the "Fake" ones is a BUNCH of knock off companies make them.
      Some will be more than fine.
      Others will be utter shite.
      Its a roll of the dice- in general, check reviews for the specific "knock off" you intend to buy, and it should give you a reasonable grasp of what kind of quality they are (assuming you can get reviews of them).

    Whether it's fake or not, the most important thing is that it works according to its function, there are imitation items but the quality is the same

    • @dustondoesit3913
      @dustondoesit3913  9 месяцев назад

      I demonstrated how in this video the quality is absolutely not the same. If someone was using a knockoff as a hood latch and it failed like mine did, it’s thousands in damages (hood, numerous mounting parts and a windshield)

      This video has some pretty good indicators where I show the differences on the inside or the outside. If I remember correctly Quiklatch is the only US company that has a patent on these.

    The real quick latches are ridiculously expensive for what they are

    • @dustondoesit3913
      @dustondoesit3913  3 года назад

      I agree and disagree. One one hand $52 isn’t bad at all for something that stops your hood flying up and causing thousands in damage. Might be overkill for a bumper that already has broken clips. But like I said, the cheap ones failed on me, so that means $40 since you have to buy them twice.

    • @MrEvtmazda
      @MrEvtmazda 3 года назад

      @@dustondoesit3913 I would gladly pay the 120+ or so for the real 400lb holding power hood clips. But the push button ones shouldnt be more than $10 or $20 bucks because they can only support 10lbs or so. Sorry about your car btw. It was beautiful and I hope you managed to fix it or get a good replacement ✌

      @@dustondoesit3913 I was about to buy 4× of these from ebay for £8 to fix my bumper. Then I saw this vid so looked for more. Saw two where guys used 2 on their car bonnets and they failed, the bonnet flipped up and smashed the windscreen and roof 😱. To get the real Quik-release in the UK they are £103 for 4 but its def better than my bumper ripping off and getting run over 🤣

    IS THIS COMPANY (QUIK-LATCH) STILL IN BUSINESS?? The entire website has been UNDER CONSTRUCTION for YEARS and EVERY SINGLE PRODUCT SAYS "OUT OF STOCK".
    Their instagram page has not been updated in YEARS... And the facebook page also has not been updated in YEARS..
    I worry about WARRANTY if the company is not reachable. They appear to have NO CONTACT INFORMATION on the page (all under construction).

      They are still in business. I actually work for a company who sells their products now, but I did not at the time of this video. Their number is 800 604 0244 and their email is sales@q-latch.com

      @@dustondoesit3913 You are correct, looks like they need to contact google because when you search them, the very first website and those after are of that "OLD" website. I've talked to others yesterday and seems I'm not the only one who assumed they were closed down and even went with other brands thinking they would have no warrranty since there is NO contact information on that website.
      I haven't bought anything as I didn't want to if I had no way for the life time warranty if the company was not in business anymore.
