    Abandoned & Forgotten Places
Documenting abandoned mines like never before!
Let's take abandoned mine exploring to the next level!
With your support you can help make this the best abandoned mine exploring channel on RUclips!
Shot entirely in 4K! ...so, turn up those video settings!
On this channel we go deep... REALLY DEEP into abandoned mines and tunnels all throughout the western United States. We researched some of the harder to find mines and hiked or 4x4 back into them to explore and reveal their hidden secrets. Many of these remote locations are filled with cool artifacts, antiques and unique geology that will have you guessing as to why the old prospectors worked so hard to find gold, silver, and other minerals.
A&FP moves just a bit slower as compared to other mine exploring channels. Gly discusses why the miners chose these sites and he points out the geology and minerals that got them excited. Veins of quartz filled with gold and silver made many men lose sleep in the 1800’s and early 1900’s and modern prospecting still does to this very day.
DANGERS? Oh yes, there’s allot of dangers associated with old mines. Un-exploded dynamite, blasting caps, bad air, bats, spiders, and snakes all find their home in abandoned mine shafts and tunnels. Oh, and let’s not forget rotting timbers, flooded passages and collapsing rock!
Gly takes abandoned mine exploring seriously with all the proper safety equipment, training, and experience necessary to do this activity as safe as possible but that doesn’t mean we can’t have a bit of fun along the way. “Gly”, your host and his band of crazy characters “Old Bob” (Gly’s Jeep), “Quackers” (Gly’s duck) and “Bobbie” (Gly’s hula girl) are sure to brighten your day with their comments and silly antics. Heck, they may even give you a chuckle or two.
Just like Saturday morning cartoons before the internet was invented, Abandoned and Forgotten Places uploads each Saturday at 7:00AM PST. (that’s 10:00AM for you eastern folks) so don’t forget to click that subscribe button and bell icon to receive notifications of new episodes!
Please LIKE, SHARE, SUBSCRIBE and COMMENT! All these things help grow our channel and your financial support helps us find new locations and helps put fuel into “Old Bobs” tank. Old Bob, thanks you!
Ok, now for the ugly stuff...
    WARNING
Abandoned mines and ruined structures have many hazards and can severely injure or even kill you. Do not attempt to copy or re-enact situations or scenarios seen in this video. Stay Out and Stay Alive: • Gly Says... STAY OUT S...

“Gly”: We have a real mystery here. What do you think is on the end of the yellow rope? Why would someone go through so much trouble to climb through such a small hole? They would’ve had to be REALLY skinny and they would’ve had to go feet first into the unknown. I can’t stop thinking what might be on the end of the rope. Your thoughts?

    • @malcolmkogut
      @malcolmkogut 3 года назад +7

Maybe they never climbed down but dropped in a camera to view the footage afterward but it got snagged. There must be like, you know, I mean, uhm . . . ten years of footage on it by now. You need one of them thar "weasel cams." Or, there is a pack or a knot at the end. It is probably not as exciting as you think. A body would be cool, but not of the poor weasel.

@Abandoned and Forgotten Place Please use a rubber mat or even a jacket, to protect the rope from rubbing as it’s going over edge. I’ve already seen one accident when someone didn’t protect the rope. “It’ll be alright” is what he always said …. Until the day it wasn’t alright! Luckily he only fell 20 feet when the rope failed. Now he always takes a rubber mat to protect the ropes from rubbing. Stay safe and look after the penguin fluffers 😉

All my life I had the same knee problem as does Mr. M. Mine started when I was deep into high school sports....ruined much in my following years and caused embarrassing moments even when I was still young in my 20ss. i just arrived from Germany and his friends from both the university and military school and wives of those who were married had prepared a huge welcoming party for me and I blew it within the first 10 minutes: I wanted to admire one of the babies crawling on the blanket with its mother sitting next to it and I lowered myself on my knees....Bad mistake! My bum-knee chose right their to cracked real loud, I let out a squeal of pain, turned pale and passed out. (Never ever happened before or ever since and I am 82) now! I ended up in the emergency room with a cast the next day. They used to cast stuff they would never dream of doing now. We still had the party and many of us stayed in touch. However, just like Mr M. my knee popped on and off throughout my life and often put me out of commission , yet there was nothing that could be done about it. I never succumbed to the temptation of having surgery and eventually realizes what a good choice that was. (Sorry doctors! You know what I mean...leave knees alone unless the bone sticks out or the knee cap turned backwards) I am 82, still climbing the 16 steps of our stilt home numerous times daily! But even there I stepped "wrong" but always going downstairs at least 4 times in the past 20 years and was stuck upstairs for days. So Mr. M. , look at it this way: at least you were not deep inside a mine and the rescuers had to come a drag you out! I bet your Mary has no sympathy for you and told you a hundred times to watch your knee and not do stuff like that! :). I know I don't just speak for myself if I say we will be just as happy as you do everything you did up to now, be part of everything, man the 'Schnozzer-5000', make some of your videos , do your crazy rides with Gly in Bob and we will be happy while you pamper that knee! You don't need to climb up ...or down. Just be there! --------- Gly, I don't know what to say after what you did today! That was insane! I was so afraid when you pulled that yellow rope that it was either going to a\cause the rest of the collapse or you'll pull out some bones attached to it from the last mas wiggling through there! The latter could still be true because no one could co through after the collapse, so how did the rope get there? There could be a man attached to it buried under debris! Why else would someone leave this rope behind? He never told anyone about going down there and his name would still be among the missing!

Well you guys did it... you broke the first rung and Mr M while you were at it!?! Is that a Beatles tune .. an intelligent octopus 🐙? Man dude that rope at the bottom where the collapse of the wall made short work of your day.. those are some sketchy ladders 🪜that you came up .. last weeks footage... can't even turn a shovel around in there! That's another fine mess you've gotten me into, Stanley...

The gallon Coca-Cola bottle you found looks like the ones for the syrup used by soda fountains in the ‘50’s, when it was mixed with soda water right at the counter. Just not the fancy stainless steel containers it comes in today. You could buy the syrup from the drug store to settle a kid’s upset stomach back then. Thanks for some beautiful and exciting videos!

Makes me wonder if someone was on the end of that rope when the shaft collapsed down it looked tight.

    • @jamesloghry8083

Maybe that collapse was purposely caused by one sleestak disposing of another.

See, they've said it for how many years? "Watch that first step, it's a doozie!"
Why did they put the rungs on the back side? Trusting a 6d nail seems dumb

This stuff is really cool for an arm chair explorer. Not to sound dumb ok? Somebody carved that shaft with a bucket & pick ? Did he see a real gold vain and follow it or was he just digging think it looked like it could have gold?

Geez it's amazing to me how much VOLUME of rock those old timers were able to remove from the mine just using the equivalent of a wheelbarrow at a time. Those old miners were tough!

Gly, something that bothers me. How difficult would it be, to rig a nylon harness to go over your head and shoulder. Put a Caribiner or D-ring on one end to hold your big camera. That way, you could swing it behind you, to your side or in front of you while climbing. Another alternative, hang the camera from your waist belt while climbing/descending. It REALLY bothers me that you don't have Both Hands while you're climbing or descending. IF something happened... ladder or rung(s) failed, something falls on you, you lose your footing and you had to grab something to save 'Mama Gly's Little Boy,' that camera's going to the bottom! OK, that said, it was another fantastic show! They just get better and better.............

“Gly”: I’ve tried many different methods but either the camera is pointed in the wrong direction or I keep hitting the camera rig on the back of the mine. The camera is on and rolling when climbing ladders so I can capture the shot so it always needs to be pointed in somewhat the right direction. The helmet cam works OK for this but nothing captures the shot better than the camera rig. It’s a bit of a hassle but I don’t mind.

@@AbandonedandForgottenPlaces You might ought to get a wrist or clip lanyard for the thing though, just a loose one. As it is, you have one shot at keeping your grip if it got bumped and wrested loose... and even if it's unusable footage during, if you're mid-climb and need that hand with nowhere to set it, you can just let the camera dangle for a moment.

To be fair to the ladder .. it was turned inside out so they could hoist a tugger bucket up it like rails, and there were no notches for the rungs to sit into . Even my svelte 6' 135lbs probably would have had issues going down old ladders like that . Ropes are a life line . Miss you M, heal fast .

Nice to see you ⭐️👍Mr M!, ⭐️👍you are going to need some armor for those knees, maybe some nailers or some sports gear, carhart has some double duck double front heavy duty jeans that have pockets over the knees to stuff in a little bit of knee protection, not much but some, and they were pretty good, Just take a month of Sundays to get some of the stiffness out, no good for hot weather, maybe some knee and elbow gear for skateboarding I don't know, I just know that my knees are pretty screwed up and I would need to protect them

Gee shovel I would have been tempered to dig and clear part of the shaft collapse, of course I saw several boards stacked up too, may have been able to clear it up. Yellow rope hung up maybe a body on the end of it ... LOL thanks for taking us along.

I watch a lot of these mine videos yours are among 2 or 3 that are the best. Explanations in commentary that are detailed with geology, what miners were after, construction etc, great camera work and pictures and a willingness to don full safety gear to explore dangerous areas which are often skipped by others somewhat younger and less adventurous. Others often don't even give the name of mine or if unknown the approximate location. All this makes them the most interesting. My regret is I never got a chance to do this when young.

Question about this. In Frank's new video after going through the skinny hole and down a ways further he also got to a shaft. But the shaft where you guys were in this video, it appears you are at the bottom or at least on a plug.
So, does this mine connect to two different shafts at different depths?

Reverse ladder, to drag an ore bucket up, I was wondering why the rungs were reversed so that when you stepped on them it pushes them off the vertical 2 X 4.
