Great job man! I think we have kinda similar tone preferences because the way i set my Boogie Mark V is very close the way you have set your boogies to test them. Really helpful video. I think i'll choose JP2C to my next purchase.
More deep dive comparison please… I can only get 1 amp. I’m still Debating between these two still… you can only have 1 amp, is it the JP or the Mark Vll? Thanks
It's hard to say. I guess it depends what you want. Do you need all of the modes that the VII offers? Personally I found all of those modes to just be too much. I use like 2 sounds lol. Or do you want 2 nearly identical channels with the shred mode option and 2 EQs? The tones can be VERY similar, but the VII will cover a lot more ground than the JP. The VII also has a built in load, so you can run it without a speaker cab, DI to a FOH system or recording interface. I would say look at the features and let that be what makes the decision for you.
I have a JP2c and i can say my Mark V sound better on the IV and 2C++ mode. The JP2C sounded harsh and quite difficult to get a good crunch. The 2c++ of the mark V is killer. I choose the MK VII
Pretty sure the V channel is IIC+, not ++. I didn't like that amp very much, but I also am not a huge fan of the JP. For different reasons. The V didn't have enough low end for me, and would be extremely finicky day to day. The JP has this weird honk in the midrange that I didn't like and couldn't dial out. The VII fixes both of these issues for me.
Great video dude. Definitely subbed. I just got my Mark VII and I am really enjoying it so far. But I have to ask why do you keep the master volume is at? Especially channel 3? I find this episode damn loud. How do you turn it up and then sit so close? Looking forward to future videos going more in depth on the amp.
@@thewrathofraf Yeah I switched over to 45 Watts now so I have a little more wiggle room with the master volume. Keep it up dude! Would love to see some deep dive vids on MArk VII mode.I still can't figure out how to set it up right with the same sliders as channel 3. :)
Great Job on Comparing the two. I have the JP2C, I'm not just not sure If I can justify the Money for the new Mark VII to hear that much of a difference? It may be different if I can actually play one someday. I do like the 2 Eq's on the JP though.
Yeah, I had 2 Mark IVs for a few years. They were great, for sure. It's hard to say how they compare because it's been about 4 years since I had them, but I love this as much as I remember loving the IVs, maybe more.
With shred mode off on the JP, the low end isn't as tight and compressed as the VII. Nothing to do with aggression in this case, but I don't agree that the JP is more aggressive. They're about the same.
I don't even think the shred mode is even necessary. The IIC+ mode on the VII sounds absolutely badass in the video. Palm muting and chug is one of the main things I looks and the VII sounds perfect. I may have missed but what the EQ settings on the VII? Did you use the graphic?
Thanks! Yeah, I don't think it's necessary, but it's a feature that I like on the JP. Graphic EQ is on, in a V with the 2200 slightly higher than the mid point.
I've got to get to Guitar Center and play this thing. Just judging from videos this Mark is up there with the actual IIC+ but with all the modern bells and whistles
I have a number of guitars with a number of different pickups. I swap pickups all the time, so it's hard to say I use this or this because that could always change. In this video, I don't remember. That guitar currently has a Dimarzio Dominion set, but I don't think that's what I had in it at the time of this video.
The built in EQ is already like having an EQ in the loop, so I'm sure you'd be able to tweak it to where you want it. Another EQ, to me, would be redundant.
@@thewrathofraf Well people always complain that the JP sounds boxy, that is an easy fix with an external EQ. Also didn't Metallica also use external EQ with the Mark amplifiers to get their famous tones. I use the JP with the Axe-FX III and it definitely helps to throw some EQ after the JP.
Just picked up a VII, think I'll keep it! You did good.
Definitely still love this amp, 5-6 months later! Hard to stop playing it.

Sounds great both amps!
I'm amazed at the amount of engineering went into those amps
7:03 Sounds heavy. Great video
seven sounds open. both sound great. would love to hear them both together though
you can pull the presence knob on the jp2c right?
Yes, you can. Gives you a lot more brightness and a different character in the high end.
Great comparison and playing, thanks Raf!
Thanks dude! Hope you're doing great!
The VII just sounds better to my ears, considering snagging a VII, the last couple JP2C I had were just pretty bleh. Great tones and chuggs.
I think I have to agree, the VII is clearer. I've been really wanting a JP2C but the lower mid frequencies do bug me a bit. The VII sounds glorious.
Yeah, it's incredible. The more I play it, the more I love it.
Great comparison !! Thanks!

I like both, but jp is my new favorite

I meant what do you keep your master volume at for channel 2 and three?
He's got paul gilbert ears
Lol
It’s worth it haha. Nah it’s not super loud most of the time, just when I’m micing. You need a little bit of volume to get that tone!!

I think you’re mostly going to benefit from the mark VII mode which is basically a recto mark tone hybrid. Otherwise it’s a waste of money
I heard you had a Mesa Mark IV. What do you think of Mark IV mode on the Mark VII vs the real Mark IV?
Yeah, I had 2 Mark IVs for a few years. They were great, for sure. It's hard to say how they compare because it's been about 4 years since I had them, but I love this as much as I remember loving the IVs, maybe more.
Awesome comparison and demo. Great playing skills, liked and subscribed to support channel…
Appreciate you!
what do you mean by saying VII IIC+ mode is tighter? I can hear all the time that JP2C sounds more aggresive, in other reviews people say the same
With shred mode off on the JP, the low end isn't as tight and compressed as the VII. Nothing to do with aggression in this case, but I don't agree that the JP is more aggressive. They're about the same.
Great video
You made me sell my JP2C haha 😂. Looking forward to receiving my VII
haha hope it works out!! It definitely has for me. I love this amp.

JP2C low-frequency diving deeper, what guitar or pickup do you use?
I have a number of guitars with a number of different pickups. I swap pickups all the time, so it's hard to say I use this or this because that could always change. In this video, I don't remember. Mesa oversized cabs?
Yes.
I actually prefer the EQ of the JP, I like the low mids. I would put a good EQ in the loop though to get the most out of it.

I have the jp-2c....it has definitely more color ...especially with Shred.. on 7 and 8 string guitars!
Tight enough to play A# standard?
Great amp
sounds awesome are you using v30s here?
2 V30s and 2 Redbacks
I'm JP2C 🤘👍
I can get that high end with my fortin 33 pedal
awesome ...next test same cab same mic position ...just stand up unplug cable ....plug into the other
I did one of these shortly after this video between the EVH, JP, and Mark VII.
