Rajendra Soni Omg Edith Piaf was loved by almost all of France. She started out as impoverished street singer, but once she was discovered by Louis Leplée, she rose to fame. Her debut album would be acclaimed by a famous French actor, Maurice Chevalier, who was in the audience of her first singing appearance in a night club. She would expander her career into theatrics that same year (1935) and she began singing in music halls in Paris regularly. She would even go onto work in a film called Étoile sans lumière. Most of the songs she sang were about loss, love, and heart ache. It reflected her personal life, being abandoned by her mother, her poor childhood in a brothel, and her scandalous and tragic love life. She always sang with great passion and was able to move any audience to tears. After her death, their was a large funeral attended by thousands of people. Several movies, plays, and biographies would go on to be written about her. Oh how I envy to sit in a cabaret listening to Piaf like my great grandmother did. The perks of being a centenarian is that I got to see some of the best singers and musicians of all time between the 20s to the 90s! Sinatra, Pavarotti, Maria Callas, Louise Armstrong, Billie Holiday, Patsy Cline, Bessie Smith, Judy Garland, Chuck Berry and even Hendrix and The Beatles. Quelle voiiiiiiix!

I don't need to "look up" the history, I saw her at Carnegie Hall in 1956 and again in Paris shortly before she died. I was more interested in complimenting her than "insulting" the audience.
No dancing, no ass shaking, just pure talent.
bravo! Exactly. These days, you cannot even succeed without ass shakin
I agree with thee!!!!

Seeing the brilliant, playful smile on Piaf's face as she nudges the audience to finish the song gives me chills. So beautiful.
+direfranchement Yes. Piaf was completely unique. This song has been done countless times yet none rival Edith Piaf. ♫ The woman in the audience (at 2:40) says it all. Passion.

Sniff u.u
Sublime!!!! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

However the one who moved me to my core is this extraordinary woman in Paris in the early 50s. Dear Lord have mercy what a performer! ❤
Such a small frame with such a fiery l, gigantic voice
We live you Edith
Love from Portugal 💕
You can feel her pain and see the emotion in her songs. She's amazing.
I THINK THIS IS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL SONG IN THE WORLD. AND EDITH PIAFF NO WORD TO SAY HOW GOOD SHE IS
Listening to this, I am transported to a cabaret somewhere in Paris.
Zadziwiające i zachwycające!
When the crowd sings back at her, my heart melts. Piaf forever.

I don't know why, but everytime I hear the song I think it's the most beautiful song in the world.
Don't get me wrong, not just anyone can sing this song. Just the person who made it famous.... and Louie Armstrong.
totally agree! both her English and French versions plus louis' version are the best!! so beautiful ♡♡♡
+theylied1776 Excellent taste in music! :)
+Daniel P Her version sucks.Look at this video,Edith is singing LIVE,but this Daniela..
+theylied1776 I think Cristin Milioti from How I Met Your Mother (former Broadway performer) did an amazing rendition.
+Earthbound Cory yea she is
Merci Madamme.

In the midst of Covid 2020 October, listening to her soothes my soul
And for me February 2021. Tasmania
I couldn't agree more with what you say.
Qui est la en 2024?
Hola

A chaque karaoke ❤
I fell in love with her voice❤
Tjr la
I can’t understand a word yet I feel as if I could sing along all day.
"Sometimes I wonder if we are growing as a people, or in fact... regressing."
One of the best quotes of all time and sadly accurate.
Very Beautiful, the french language is sensual ❤️ Saluti da Italia 🇮🇹
goblin80ct Merci ! La lingua italiana è molto bella !
La langue italienne est tellement romantique!
It's French...
John Blahuta We know
Looks like Mel and Le Gaucher think it's Italian?
How someone could dislike this masterpiece? These people who disliked it are jealous of her voice.
For some reason I just found this music in 2020, how I didn’t heard about this wonderful music before...

I've listened to this song several times today and just want to tear up so badly. It just hits something.
There's a test of an immortal singer - you cannot believe that voice is coming from a human being! There's NOT a lot of them, folks...this IS one!
Endless thanks to whomever posted this...
Piaf has Gold in her Voice. She was and is still a fantastic phenomenon forever. Merci PIAF.

Good luck! French sure is a beautiful language but damn is the grammar freaking hard to understand. Don't give up! ♥
Bonne chance / good luck ❤️🇫🇷
good luck
my Austrian grandfather fighting for the German army listened to this artist, she gave him the strength to continue during this period of killing, hell.
he told me everything about the war to the point of tears in his songs, I could never thank her enough for everything she did. without her I might not be around, I would listen to this artist until I die and I would make her known to my daughters
It brings back some good memories when I was stationed at Camp de Gron. It was then I fell in love with France their music, their food, their way of life. Married a French national. Went back to visit many times.
even though I don't understand a single word of French, I enjoy listening to her beautfull song
Magnifique!
The one & only "LA VIE EN ROSE"🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
no autotune or audio effects just talent, merci la mome piaf
Fica a nostalgia.
How can they look so grumpy listening to and watching one of the greatest performing artists of the 20th Century. For me personally, THE greatest.
I don't need to "look up" the history, I saw her at Carnegie Hall in 1956 and again in Paris shortly before she died. I was more interested in complimenting her than "insulting" the audience. The Carnegie Hall audience (the most sophisticated I've ever experienced) acted like they were in the presence of God.

Hearing her sing takes my mind to a place where all the troubles of the world fade into oblivion.
