- For my 1175th review, Lana Del Rey delivers her most refined and expansive set of songs to date, but in refusing to fracture the veneer can never quite add the teeth to the melodrama or message.
Best Songs: 'California', 'Norman Fucking Rockwell', 'Cinnamon Girl', 'Love song'
Worst Song: 'Fuck it, I love you'

iTunes bio: Part of the fun of listening to Lana Del Rey’s ethereal lullabies is the sly sense of humor that brings them back down to earth. Tucked inside her dreamscapes about Hollywood and the Hamptons are reminders-and celebrations-of just how empty these places can be. Here, on her sixth album, she fixes her gaze on another place primed for exploration: the art world. Winking and vivid, Norman F*****g Rockwell! is a conceptual riff on the rules that govern integrity and authenticity from an artist who has made a career out of breaking them.

Just 4 more albums until she gets that 10/10 y’all
Wow, a 3 and a 4?! Surely, she can't be that bad. (I figured her worst album would be at least a 5.)
Lol
All those ratings are trash and a sign of lack of taste. This dude is a fucking disgrace...
Denis Breimann I love her music but dude chill out, it’s just his opinion
Denis Breimann haha bitch is mad over someone’s opinion
Watch this become Spectrum Pulse’s version of the Melon’s MBDTF review
I doubt
He already did that with IGOR
Nah this album isn’t nearly the universal masterpiece and generational statement MBDTF is.
MBDTF was good though
But mbdtf was groundbreaking, lol, Tool's FI has a higher tendency to become one than this disxount Titanic Rising
Most of the times it feels like you are reviewing the artist and not the art. Especially in the case of Lana with the eye rolls, the condescending tone and the choice of words.
@@SpectrumPulse Yeah but most other artists don't have personas too. Then why are Lana reviews different. Also Lana said there is no persona only recently but this observation of mine applies to all of the previous Lana reviews too.
He's not reviewing the artist. He's penning a slobbering love letter to his own voice.
@@mariaquiet6211 this is the most brutal comment I have ever read.
Manchild
lol
I never understood why you always have always. Characterized Lana’s “melodrama” as a bad thing, the way that she creates a mood and atmosphere around not only her music but her image, is what attracts me and many other fans to her, even if her glamorized picture of 20th century Americana, unhealthy relationships, and nihilism may be how Lana sees herself though her art, I still think that she deserves most of the praise that she has gotten in recent years probably because of her massive influence on recent popular music
Huge fan of your reviews man but the fact that you gave The Big Day a higher rating than this baffles me...oh well it’s your opinion. Keep up the great content!
absolutely, he needs to give The Big Day a relisten, it was truly awful.
@@weegeearmy1391 Spectrum Pulse isn't one to kneel to the consensus under the pretense of them being "more objective", whatever "objectivity" even means anymore.
weegee army nope, it’s actually pretty good and I like it :)
You really enjoy this album title, don’t you? That and the cover alone deserves critical acclaim
I feel like your perception of the album was skewed on your past experience with Lana. I don’t blame you for that because as a fan, so is mine. I thought this album was a masterpiece and that it has been the best album to be released all year. Of course, I was taken aback by your scoring, but I have to admit, I may have the same biases, but in the opposite direction. I’m glad you were able to at least give some praise because regardless, there are high and low points.
PS. You’re right about California and Cinnamon lmao!
I've been subscribed to you for a long time, and i'd say this review seems like its so biased with you not liking lana. You just sounds so mad and bitter. And clipping other critics makes you sound so insecure. Idk you just sound like youre trying too hard to not like her. 👏
YES, thank you. This review was really disappointing for me
He was nicer to this than the last three Lana albums he covered, so there's that.
He's so pathetic tbh.
@Terrell Borroum like someone who's called Terrell
@Terrell Borroum is the truth, he's so pathetic basing his personal opinion about Lana in the review.
No thematic cohesion? This is one of the most thematically cohesive albums I have ever listened to lmao, it's nearly a criticism of mine.
Failure to give major props to the gorgeous lyrics on Apartment Complex.
Very negative vibe 3 and a half minutes in before we even begin talking about the songs on the album...
suh great albums will always have people trying to tear it down. I’m not familiar with her music but I listened to this one on a whim a couple of days ago and it’s very good.
Wtf only 6/10? Literally the best album released in 2019.
I have never liked Lana’s music, and I really really like this album. It’s honestly pretty great.
This review felt weird to me. It seems like you were trying really hard to excuse your dislike for the album without having actual strong reasons. This album deserves all the praise that it's getting imo.
@@SpectrumPulse Lmfao take this L theres no way this album is anything under an 8, and its pretty easily 9.5-10 range, its masterful in every way whether it be soundscapes, vocals and songwriting
It’s a pretty good album which is a big step up from her 2017 album! The title is pretty funny but this is her most diverse album and probably her best!
"This is her most diverse album"

Do you and the needle drop time these releases
Thanks for the review-you always constructively ask more of Lana, which I appreciate.
There's actual studies that show that self consciousness hinders creativity. I haven't seen any evidence that she's given a fuck what critics think of her songwriting since SNL appearance.
You gave Ultraviolence a 3, I don’t trust your take on Lana ever sir!

It is very telling how many comments here don't challenge the opinions of Mark and rather focus on "wow you're so negative" and the fact that he didn't give it a higher score, highlighting how he gave a similar score to other critical darlings and use it as proof for having myopic standards. This is why the internet is a garbage fire; there is very little people wanting to get better at defending their opinions and challenge someone's different perspectives and just go for defense mechanisms and insults, on the hope that they will get scare and go away. Mark has been doing music criticism for half a decade now, and the fact that many people still choose to not actually criticize but hate, that is the real problem. Might as well just hit the dislike button. That button is just as shallow and useless than your comments.
it’s called criticism babe
10:44, that is one of the creepiest “eyebrow edits” I’ve ever seen. What can I say, the smallest details are the most intriguing for me.
How high were you when you listened to this album? "the greatest" sounds absolutely nothing like "The Winner Takes It All"
you were probably high making this comment as well
@@AquilaSky21 simping for Spectrum Pulse, aren't we?
I'd give it a 7-8 there's some beautiful songs on here but I just don't see the absolutely huge hype for this project. But maybe it's because this is the first album of hers I've listened
Also your reviews this year have been very controversial 😂
Born to Die is the best starting point, everything after that is a crapshoot.
This is her best so far
David Cremin i know that everyone has a different music taste. but I’m gonna say it, meh don’t tell us that you don’t see the hype, you belong to the mediocre lot and I know for a fact that Lana music is not your type, it’s not hype for you but it’s for us. You don’t belong here cuz this is your first album and you’re inexperienced. You are a noob. I mean opinions after all. I just wanted to say, there you go suck it.
I love the way you say 'Fucking' Mark :)
NFR
A heyday in a renaissance of time.
On song and over the moon with resplendent vocals.
Exemplified lyrics and characterisations represent the due diligence of a rare and beautiful talent.
Onya Lana! All ears.
Mariner’s and Venice Bitch are masterpieces so ngl I was a little disappointed with the rest of the album in comparison but it’s still a 7-8 for me.
Honestly, this is the first time I've gotten myself to listen to a Lana Del Rey album. Lust For Life (the song) was my first exposure to her which was probably a bad song to start with. But Mariners Apartment Complex blew me away, though NFR itself, really didn't. The writing is great and its pleasant to put on, but I don't think I'll come back to it often. Maybe not my cup of tea, but the appeal is apparent.
Scores so far (excluding Resonators):
10/10: 0
9/10: 7 (SUNDAYS, Saor, Epic Beard Men....)
8/10: 23
7/10: 44
6/10: 32
5/10: 16
4/10: 6
3/10: 1 (Logic)
2/10: 2 (Juice WRLD, AJR)
1/10: 0
Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
The "watch/10" is so obnoxious.
This album surprised me, I didn't think it was possible to sing to a piano recorded in an entirely different studio. Most of the tracks sound like the vocals and the backing track were both recorded in a vacuum and mashed together in an editing suite. It's bizarre.
I think there is more adjectives in the video than an actual review of this album
Let me be the one to say thank god for this review
You’re a very famous critic and author tho.
What is that album title lmao
Classic Americana symbol with a jarring expletive added in. She is on-brand.

I really wanted to love this album but it felt lacklustre in certain ways that made it hard for me to remain emotionally invested in what she was trying to convey. I think the album has been over hyped. And honestly, her vocal delivery can get a little monotonous after a while.
June Asiimwe it is overhyped. sound is nothing different from her previous releases

The way this album has nothing to do FJM 😭
Can you talk about the music? Why are you so fixated on reviewing the artist? I don't think you gave the album its proper dues. It really sounds like you like the idea of being a contrarian.
Also stop writing out a messy, convoluted review and try to pass it off as as complex thoughts on a complex album. Almost everyone can see through the pretentiousness of it. Yeah, when you've got as many dislike as likes on your reviews.... It's not really working is it? Terrible headache-inducing voice too.
Really? Its like you're trying to get up there with the most obnoxious, ugliest critics the industry has to offer. Its really an unattractive trait, trying so hard to be liked and respected, by stomping on other people's toes. Now your opinion of course is valid, but let's not confuse opinions with hate. Hands up to guess what this video was... At least ARTV is respectful when he disagrees with lana's musical directions, but the bile dripping out of your mouth and making its way to contaminate speakers around the globe is too toxic to stand. I usually consider myself to be one of the more chilled members of lana's fan base, but this was awful. DISLIKE!

Dude, please stop it with the dictionary and thesaurus based review. The over-the-top adjectives/adverbs makes this review as muddled and meandering as the album you are reviewing. I think I could use this review in an English class to demonstrate irony. Just review it and speak from your heart not taking a day to write a confusing rant on why you don’t like the album or why you like it. I’m still confused on your response.
That wasn’t in depth. That was convoluted, confusing, and pretentious. I’m fine with a negative review but anybody who watches this knows you are reviewing the artist and not the art and it is exhibited through your disordered rant. Don’t write out the review and read it to impress us with big words and constant noise; just tell us how you feel about the album and why you feel that way. It’s a biased review in my opinion and I’m not familiar with Del Rey except for this album which I was very impressed with. Maybe her other stuff is pretentious and conservative but I don’t need to hear this over and over again when I’m listening to a review of this album.
Just say he has a better vocabulary than you 🥱
this album is somewhat overrated. lana did not grew production wise. idk what’s with the hype with this one but yeah, ultraviolence 2.0 or some shit
So just because both critics and ordinary listeners love this album it is overrated? Ultraviolence 2.0? Ultraviolence is dream pop while this is folk rock. Can you tell the same to some rock band that there records have been in the same genre and they're 2.0 of each other?
The reception to this album has been beyond ridiculous. I could tell before it came out that there was some attempt going on to retrospectively declare her as some "great", and credit her with all the success of artists like Billie Eilish, Halsey, Lorde etc. Classic example of a pre-praised album riding off pure hype.
Or maybe people like an album that you don’t. Crazy i know
Lana birthed these bitches and most critics agree that the early bashing of Lana was just sexist and wouldnt fly nowadays. She walked so the others could run...
@@landminelover926 Oh I'm sure people (Lana fans) like it. But critical reception from print/online publications is always based as much, if not more, on pre-established feelings than the content of the album.
@@Rob-ew9id you still sound like you can't comprehend the fact that people have different opinions, especially when you're implying that only her fans "truly" like it. even those that never liked Lana are impressed with this album, it's not just bias
Denis Breimann lol maybe halsey and billie, but Lorde??? Melodrama even outcritic everything she released
Not to mention lorde’s sound being that different since her debut and when she talked shit bout lana’s anti feminist video
3/10 for me just boring
I listened to it three times, and aside from liking about 6 songs ,the rest just became redundant and at points tedious to me. I felt it could have been executed better.
