Anybody who understands the economics and metaphysics of symbolism and imagery, understands that the glorification of dysgenia only serves to weaken a nation. There is nothing wrong with showing respect and appreciation to those of us who have been unfortunate enough to suffer from disabilities which impede their agency, but praising any and every instance of a tragedy, constantly trying to turn a negative into a positive, is not only bad for long term morale and the spirit of a people, but is actually superficial, shallow, and dishonest form of self-flattery and self-gratification via virtue signaling. You really want to make the world a better place for people like this? You don’t do it by showering them with hollow, short term praise. You do it by living your life as an individual responsibly, honorably, and virtuously(true virtues, not this nonsense), not only for yourself, but for others around you who try and do the same. That’s how you make somebody who is more removed from involvement in the polity, because of their condition, really feel like they belong. That’s how you really make people glad to be alive, despite their setbacks. Not shit like this.

A few, actually many by now I guess, years ago he suffered the injury that left him paralysed in an incident with the police force in a match against Aris, a team from the candidly called co-capital of Greece, the city of Thessaloniki. This happened in the high tide of hooliganism in Greece and it was followed by some of the most disgraceful incidents, between AEK and ARIS fans, with the former mindlessly attacking ARIS clubs and the latter being provocative to the point of actually bringing a wheelchair to a game... For what is worth, the situation has improved in Greece the past years, sadly due to a strict law preventing any organized fan moves, which results in matches being played in front of a crowd that supports the home team, most of the time and especialy in derbies. Mr Xirokostas has since turned into a leading figure within the ranks of AEK's most die hard fans, Original 21, who also happen to be extremely left leaning, in sacred brotherhood with the fans of Livorno and St Pauli (famous for their anarchist fan base) and the first officialy declared anti fascist fan group in Greece. He is there, alongside his brothers and sisters, raising his fist and his voice for a team that is so much more than just a club. It is no coincidence after all that even Barca recognizes AEK as mas que un club
