- 2024 is a global election year. According to statistics at the beginning of the year, more than 46 countries will hold elections this year. This also includes the United Kingdom. The British General Election is today! (4th July)
The current British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is a member of the Conservative Party. However, many people predict that this election will be won by the Labour Party. What does this mean?

非常感謝Susie提供了這麼棒的影片，除了讓人們能快速了解英國政黨與政治現況，也從中提供了不少相關詞彙！
但影片中有部分中文字幕，可能會讓不擅英文的觀眾不了解您所要表達的意思！
1. Party（政黨）一詞，在好幾處，被誤翻為「當事人」。
2. Clean Energy（清潔能源），雖為正確詞彙，但華語使用者更熟知的詞彙為同義詞的Green Energy（綠色能源，或簡稱綠能），因為清潔能源一詞，我一開始看到也不為熟悉，直到我去翻查資料才知道此詞彙是綠能的同義詞。在台灣，人們在報章雜誌與媒體上，更常看到綠能一詞，鮮少使用清潔能源一詞。
3. Phonics Programme 應該是指發音與拼讀的課程，但文中被誤翻為語音程式，該句在文中為「他們的識字率也有所提高，透過語音程式」，正確應該是「透過發音與拼讀的課程，人們的識字率也有所提升」。
總之，感謝您如此用心製作這個影片，謝謝！
要看英國到時候這個組織成立時實際上用什麼term。更重要的是clean energy跟green energy定義不同，一般認知是green energy是指使用自然界可循環的能源如太陽、風等，而clean energy是不排放廢氣（尤其是溫室效應氣體）到空氣中。而定義出相對寬鬆的clean energy顯然就是要把核能拉進來，因為現階段carbon emission control是最急迫的問題。我去查Labour的網頁上能源政策裡，的確主要用clean而不是green，但只是當一般性敘述的形容詞。
Clean Energy 在香港也會叫「潔淨能原」
@@chrisnlk 也看過翻譯成「清潔能源」的。沒看過台灣這邊有好好討論此議題，因為執政黨的特定立場直接排除核能，所以一定避談Clean energy（他們只要Green energy）
不如叫干净能源。大陆好像也没清洁能源这一说。

這集好讚 點出一直很想了解的議題👏我是在倫敦就學和工作的臺灣人，我曾經覺得英國首相可以輕易被替換下來顯得荒謬，耗費資源和顯得政策方向不穩定，但經過這幾年和與對臺灣民主的思考，捨棄短視的觀點，長期來看也許這才是更接近多元的民主風景？政治上只要單一權力趨向定型，就容易腐化，一些老屁股就出來了。
另外關於housing issue我聽過其他說法指不是房子太少，而是跟臺灣類似的購屋當投資，持有多在英國有高比例的外國人投資購屋，價格住得起買的起的房子就自然少了
不是啊！保守黨政府已經上位14年了（換首相只是執政黨家務事而已，這是內閣制），這已經是非常穩定的民主政治。英國也不是像荷蘭那種一堆小黨，每次選舉要湊合個聯合政府都費勁。這次保守黨會慘敗也就是因為坐太久了，老屁股讓選民很失望
英國作為一個路線非常保守穩定的國家，這次Conservative輸這麼慘就是因連續執政14年、老屁股已經坐太久了，尤其是Boris Johnson那副德性...
如果按照這制度的話.現在是韓國瑜當首相.

I’m a British, and I still voted Tory today. We are not entirely apathetic about politics. The Tories have disappointed us a lot, but leftist economics simply do not work. Capital and wealthy individuals can easily relocate nowadays, which means a loss of jobs and wealth of the country. Conservative MPs tend to have more privately educated and higher educated members on average than Labour. There are showcases of British right-wing policies have seen significant success in Hong Kong and Singapore. Thanks.
Neither the Tory nor the Labor party is economically right wing anymore. For example, a typical right wing economics position is free trade. Neither the conservatives nor the labor supports it, at least not openly. Another interesting position is free movement of people. Economically at least, this is a right wing idea because it benefits businesses to have a cheaper labor force. Again, neither the conservatives nor the labor party dare to support it openly. Staying in the EU is again pro-business, we all know how that worked out for the conservatives. Does either party want a smaller government? Absolutely not.

年齡對左右真的有很大影響，年輕人有理想激情，想改造社會，天然地左傾。40歲以後隨著社會人生經驗累積，明白人性的陰暗面社會各種荒誕是常態，更加傾向現實和保護財富的建制，那是自然右傾。我來自香港經歷80/90年代的黃金盛世，深信小政府大市場自由競爭和法治，可以說是天然右的族群。但Sunak太可恨了一手毀了保守黨，所以今次被逼支持LibDem，儘管他們在Brexit議題上跟我觀點相反。
我生活在新加坡，新加坡政治源于英国，新加坡从独立后，没有反对党赢过大选。我个人对于新加坡人民行动党的执政是满意的，每次投票也都是投PAP。去年在伦敦待了一周，也拜访了在英国的朋友。英国的人文气息和新加坡很相似，对于居住和生活来说，如果公共设施和治安能够提升，英国比我去过的意大利和法国要更适合居住。相对于我去过的瑞士，英国差很多。

然而我看到有些矛盾的地方，例如在片尾您說到保守黨過去兩年准許移民700k，而大多數人覺得希望降低數量，所以這是他們一個不受歡迎的理由，但是前面有講到右派不正是反對移民? 那麼選擇工黨不就是要對移民更友善? 而准許更多移民?
我了解政治真的很難片面的二分，但還是很希望能理解保守黨大敗的關鍵因素。

That color looks great on you. As for being disillusioned by politics, like the deteriorating situations in the US and Taiwan, the UK should adopt a form of ranked choice voting. Giving people the ability to rank their preferences eliminates the need to vote tactically, and people who prefer smaller parties, like the Green Party, can feel safe putting Green Party as their first choice, knowing that Labour is somewhere on their ballots as a fall back. That will stop the parties from running fear based campaigns and hijacking elections with a few moral issues. Given a few election cycles, that should drastically increase small party seats in the parliament, giving people more choices, and breaking bi-partisanship.
If people are fine with e-voting, then adopt a voting system that's fully compliant with the Condorcet criterion, such as Ranked pairs or the Schulze method, or CPO-STV or Schulze STV for proportional elections. If people have no faith in e-voting, like people in Taiwan, then adopt STAR voting, which almost always satisfies the Condorcet criterion, but is much easier to hand count.
