  • I'm Russian and live in Texas now. I love Russia and love USA. But I'm so sad when people don't understand each other. The reason is TV and politics. My children live in Russia. I visit them every summer. Let's go with me! I'll show you Moscow, St. Petersburg and Yaroslavl/ Let me know!
The changing of the guard is an incredibly beautiful and spectacular ceremony that has been fixed in the Russian military charters and articles since the reign of Peter the Great, although similar ceremonies were conducted during the reign of Grand Duke Ivan the III. The recreation of the details of the ceremony required a huge amount of work on the part of military historians. The first parade changing of the guard in the Moscow Kremlin in the modern era, after a break of almost 80 years, took place on April the 16th, 2005.

This is the Bolshoi of military marching bands Their routine is 20 times harder than any other "changing guards" routine I've seen anyplace else.

i would love to see this in person. personally i think these ceremonies are beautiful as they pay tribute to the country and the people who uphold that country. we in america need to show more patriotism and less fighting among the people but hey what do i know. i’m just a southern kid whole believes in values of our country.

Actually, this ceremony is even more interesting than its British counterpart which in comparison seems somewhat robotic. This spectacle was engrossing.

Goose-stepping and synchronised waving around of rifles isn't robotic?

Of course it is, the British mount guard for a military purpose and have done so for several hundred years, this wonderful Russian guard mound was recently created to entertain tourists, to put on a good show.

The goose step will always look sharper than anything the British and their lousy american son can ever come up with.
I wish the US army had adopted prussian traditions instead of adopting a hybrid British and French one.

--- I live in Texas too, but I'm American born. I had the luck to visit Novosibirsk in Siberia in October, 2016, and found it very interesting. It would be very interesting to visit Moscow and St. Petersburg also, but I might go when Putin restores the monarchy, as he did the old-style Imperial Guards. Spaseebo !

@Ouija1210 ---There were some survivors of the Romanovs, even though many were killed, as you said. Today, the main claimant to the throne is Maria Vladimirovna, who is recognized by the Russian Orthodox Church, and I have read of other Romanovs, though I don't remember their names. The Grand Duchess Maria has as her son and heir Grand Duke Georgiy Mihailovich, whose father is Prince Franz Wilhelm of Prussia.
