  • Budget Ribbon Microphone Shootout
This video clip demonstrates the sonic characteristics of four different microphones, three of which are Australian ribbon microphones. A classic condenser microphone, the Neumann U87, is included as an ear refresher. All mics were level matched and recorded through a Focusrite OctoPre preamp at 24bit 441Khz. Microphones were positioned 1.2 meters from the ground and 2.0 meters from the drum kit. No equalization, compression or additional close microphones were used.
Here are the links to the four microphones in this video:

great stuff ! Love it and also the prices. Also shootout comparing to other ribbons in the same price range would be cool. But maybe there is a newer video ... ? ;]

Would greatly appreciate if more creators would make available raw Wavs or mp3s of the sound from the video.
Unfortunately RUclips’s compression algorithm often makes these shootout videos a waste of time for the viewer.
Another thing creators need to do on these videos is to please , at the end give your personal analysis , that way if the viewer is stuck at work or in public and can’t listen on a good device they can at least benefit from the creators wisdom.
That being said, this particular video even on my iPhone with AirPods Pro , despite the RUclips compression algorithms I can tell a difference between the ribbon and the U87, however the ribbons sound pretty close, I’m sure it’s been muddied a bit by both compression and my AirPods.
Thanks for making the video I hope my comments don’t come across as complaints, I just have been making this same post when I encounter obviously gifted engineers who I’d like to have gotten at least your descriptions of what you hear before we send it all through the internet. Cheers

RUclips supports high resolution (96/192Khz etc) PCM audio if you know how to format your file correctly. Most of the time, the author did a bad job formatting their video or they just have bad sounding gear. It's amazing how many reviewers are using low budget AD converters, poor cables, etc.

My video was formatted with an audio resolution of 24bit 48000Hz wave file.
