Honestly. Ive got to disagree. With a giant asterisk. The production is COMPLETELY OVERSATURATED In my opinion. As a long time listener of this band. I have to say that this album. Has some good tracks. Applause is very ambitious. And Caution is pretty great. Yes some lyrics are a bit tired and I agree with that. And this couch is by far thier best album. But this album blends together however there are some standout tracks. And feel alive is a great song. This band does have a lot of metaphoric lyrics and sometimes cringy lyrics but even then I enjoy it. However I feel that this band has very creative song structures and creative riffs and rhythms. I don’t find as much similarity as you do, specifically in the guitar work. And I’m just saying. See these guys live and see what Dylan is like singing and playing guitar and bouncing on stage luke he does. I think you’d have a little more respect for the technical prowess. But hey. People have different views and I get that. I’m just stating mine. Good review though.

I know I'm in the minority here, but this album is my favorite from TMP. The instrumentation is very underwhelming compared to their past releases, but I think that plays into the appeal. I enjoy the small "mathrock licks" that they sprinkle into the emo/pop punk focus. On top of all of that I also really enjoyed the lyrics, and the vocals especially. The vocals in past releases I felt were a little harsh and felt off putting sometimes; but with the sound on this album, and the vocals revamped a little bit, they fit together really well. Though sometimes I understand where the lyrics fall off like the ones pointed out. The last thing I wanted to point out is, I feel as though Warm Hand Splash should be considered a good song to many, even though he harps on the use of the horn in this song.
This album, for me, is very much about the lyrics. They’re very reminiscent and, aside from the songs tying into each other like usual, the call backs to former records and themes. It’s a very revealing album that casts this light backwards into their discography that, again to me, completely revamped and changed the way I listen to and think about those songs. I do truly enjoy this album, but that’s the real catch about it. I’m also biased cause I love this band and am probably reading too deep into things, but yeah

I don’t think fantano understands that the lead guitar noodling is just that... noodling. Thats the point. Its pointless and fun. Also everybody who listens to TMP knows the lyrics are cheesy and thats actually part of the appeal. That said this is still my least fav record by them although I did enjoy it. Noodling almost by definition doesn't have a point. Why not create a good melodic line for the song instead of just fucking around atleast thats how i feel personally and also your fans knowing you have cheesy/playedout lyrics does not take them off the list for criticism. Couldn't agree more really with him on this one.
Kevin Murray Well we all have our different opinions but I find noodling to be entertaining and a fun way to arpeggiate chords and scales. I also find the cheesey lyrics fun because they are intentionally so. Its an aesthetic. You can tell when they write lyrics meant to be taken seriously and when they are just having fun with it. But thats, again, just me opining.

Wasn't a huge fan either, I would love to hear your thoughts on anything sorority Noise has put out. I really enjoy a lot of their material, and You're not as__.. was really a gut punch of good emo. While Forgettable and Joy Departed were just thoroughly enjoyable listens, I got some odd MCR vibes in those earlier records but then they went full on emo with YNA_AYT

I don't think it's ever happened to me before, but Fantano's least favorite track on the album happens to be one of my most favorite ones on the album. Although I liked this album a ton, this was a solid review with genuine perspective and fair points. To each their own, forever.

Marcos Navarrete I disagree with "I Found A Whistle" and "It's Working", but I think you're in the ballpark. A lot of stuff I've seen about LDA is in comparison to Oracular Spectacular, but I feel like it's more on-par with Congratulations in terms of atmosphere and visceral approach. Granted, it's got the poppy feel that they started out with, but it's odd enough, and straightforward enough, to be closer to Congratulations. I think the singles (besides "Hand It Over") were all some of the strongest the album offered, especially "Me & Michael". I think the only songs on the album that are lackluster are "Hand It Over" and "One Thing Left To Try". My favorite of the album is "James" though, it should have been a single over "Hand It Over". And "She Works Out Too Much" is so funny and so niche, in concept, that it could only have been MGMT to produce that song. For me it's a 8.5/10 But I'm betting the melon will put it as a strong DAMN.

I rarely get jiggy with emo, and this album has some obnoxious lyrics and a bit one-note instrumentation that could easily be played on the radio (that's not to say that all radio played songs are bad, it's just that in the rock category most of them are pop rock, which I think isn't all that great, and this album could easily fit in there). So basically add all of that up and it becomes a 3-4/10 for me.
