That sax solo is so sick. With the tuba just vamping the root he can take it so atonal which makes the resolution incredible. Just a brilliant way to take such an already awesome song to another level!
Yes, this is Jazz. It's a different style of Jazz than most people are used to. It's called Riot Jazz, and it's a blend of New Orleans Jazz, Hip Hop, and Punk. It's amazing.
i listened to this version a lot of times to break in the sax solo. still wont break in. its amazing how he put that in this song. @_@. ill be playing this song with a few friends for our school. =D
There are so many awesome brass bands around these days: Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, The Souljazz Orchestra, Menahan Street Band, Portico Quartet, El Michels Affair, and these guys but i agree about the sax solo there other then that its awesome!!
This song incorporates so many different styles of music, hip-hop, rock, new orlands style music, jazz and soul. For those of you that had somthing negative to say about the sax solo, you have to learn to percieve music outside of the box. Today we have been brain washed with so much computerized and looped music that follows an a-tonal pattern that when something comes along to challenge that, its not accepted as easily. Whatever happened to music being about expression, soul, and technique.
this is freaking AWESOME! Especially the percussion and tuba for sounding so together and just amazing. But props to the entire band for being among the best musicians I have ever heard.
I personally like the way the sax solo starts off by completely going into left field with the tonality but as it progresses it slowly starts to find its way back into the original feel of the piece. I thought it was a brilliant move by the whole group to add complexity to the piece
i feel that the sax sounded weird, but after listening to it after a while, i found my self repeating it over again. Btw the trumpet chords were awesome!!!
I play the trumpet and ill be the first to say im pretty happy that there wasnt a trumpet solo because they're like steriotyped as show offs and what not, and the trombone solo was orgasmic and the sax solo was sick as fuuuuhhkkk this song is just raw to begin with.
I think the solo is fitting actually. It's all in the interval. It gave me pause the first time I heard it but I totally see the genius in it. Its a really cool interval and a cool choice.
this is where I first found out about YoungBlood, such an amazing band! Brookly is a fantastic song, but I think Headbanger and Nuclear Summer push it close for thier best song. Yeah see what people mean about the first sax solo but hey, the crowd still loved it!
@bandheadjd what they did there was genius. i love the solo because it gets annoying and you forget that the chord just repeats itself for like 2 minutes then they resolve it back into the song. pure genius
@ch1ck3nru135 That is very true, it says in it's name: Brass Band. Now, you CAN argue that the sax should be a brass instrument as it is made out of brass, and not of wood, as the inital woodwind instruments were made of (just recently made out of other materials). But as the sax uses a reed as most of the other woodwind instruments, and have the hamonics arranged similar to the woodinds. So, thus it is a woodwind instrument.
Funny statement a friend told me :
When a musician plays a "wrong" note, he sucked, when he plays two of it, that's Jazz.
;-)
this is one of those songs that proves the trombone is the best instrument
I love how the sax player brings it back in
I think Ice Cube's sousaphone skills are just fine.
5 years later I still come back to see this comment. 😂
That sax solo is so sick. With the tuba just vamping the root he can take it so atonal which makes the resolution incredible. Just a brilliant way to take such an already awesome song to another level!
Oh my word i love how the trombone plays the melody when he is soloing!
Yall need nat mcintosh back!!! Hes the best sousaphone player ive ever heard!!! .
Soul is for Brothers,
Jazz for Egos.
This is soul!
i like the sax solo a lot.
The lead trombone is none other than The Joe Goltz 3000. Joe is a beast on the trombone, and I love it when he sat in with my brass band before.
Yes, this is Jazz. It's a different style of Jazz than most people are used to. It's called Riot Jazz, and it's a blend of New Orleans Jazz, Hip Hop, and Punk.
It's amazing.
Young Blood Brass Band is just amazing
Excuse me while I clean off my keyboard, as that sax solo just blew my mind all over it.
i listened to this version a lot of times to break in the sax solo. still wont break in. its amazing how he put that in this song. @_@.

you will ever be the first " fanfare band" i leave a comment to, you guys are the best, thank you for brooklyn!!!!
The sax solo is good but im a sophomore in high school and even i know implementing rest in your solo takes it to a whole new level.
love that arabic feel in the middle of the sax solo
You know that a man who can play tuba like that has got to be swingin' some pretty serious pipe.
And I ve been on a concert 5. 8. in Kset (Zagreb), yes, they are very very good
chills .... every time
Kenneth's sousaphone skills are off the scales! If only he gave private lessons...
i feel that the sax sounded weird, but after listening to it after a while, i found my self repeating it over again.
Btw the trumpet chords were awesome!!!

one of my mates has done an arrangement of this and it sounds sooo sick. actually in love with this tuneeee :)
that saxist is jazzy as fuck.
It comes from the New Orleans traditional brass bands which have saxs in, just tradition.
@muziklova220
the album is called Center:Level:Roar
@patricklus77 I've played with their trumpet player before, and he is the epitome of a show-off trumpet player.
One word: TROMBONEE!!!! :O :)
@ch1ck3nru135 That is very true, it says in it's name: Brass Band.

@Marmakin the sousaphone solo on the track is incredible, makes me laugh so much but its just phenominal!!!
you can download it free off the youngblood brass band website
