      Oh holy shit I had to review that album back in the day and it was so bad it kind of offended me.
      The part that drove me up the wall was a sad ballad they wrote about a friend who died from a drug addiction, meanwhile this came after numerous tracks celebrating drinking whiskey, smoking weed, and partying with strippers. It was so hypocritical and craven it was kind of disgusting.

    Personally not my favorite album of Nickelback, but the tracks you mentioned are some of the best by Nickelback. These tracks have a hard edge to them, but you wouldn't classify them as metal. It's a sweet spot, in my opinion.

    I'll still always see Chad as a poor man's Chris Cornell (yep still hurts like hell he's gone) and Nickelback as watered down Soundgarden but still this showed potential. I think that's what the biggest kick is, they could've been a solid band but now 20 years on nothing has come on this level

      I don't hate Nickelback, I don't love them either. I've always been somewhat in-between on the band. Feed The Machine was the 1st album of theirs where I kinda liked it. I wouldn't say it's a 10/10, but it's a solid 7/10. & I can see why people like them, especially The State. It does show some talent & range.

    • @ThierryRocksTV

      Jason Hurk That's your opinion mate. I think it has a good mix of hard rock songs as well as heart felt ballad's. I only dislike Figured You Out because it's raunchy.

    I definitely loved this album back in the day, which makes it so sad they sold out on their very next album. This is the best they'll probably ever get now that they've discovered their magic formula, and that's kind of sad. Considering their first album was 8/10, imagine if they'd improved even more on their third album. Glad I'm not the only one who likes "Breathe."

  • @MrM2J3
    @MrM2J3 7 лет назад +11

    Here's my (unimportant) opinion about these guys : While I certainly liked them back when I was 13-14 and Silver Side Up was the best thing ever, I do get now why people hated them all along. I cannot listen to songs like Photograph or Something in Your Mouth with a straight face on. Most of these songs are hilariously shitty and without any self-awareness, but that's the point : What never worked for other bands, worked for them. Remember when Def Leppard, Weezer or recently Linkin Park tried to pander to a certain audience? And yes, they have all failed. Adrenalize bombed, so did Ratitude and Red, and for One More Light I don't even have to explain. When Nickelback does this, they go Diamond. And what's even funnier : they are a relevant act for 20 years now. And the reason why I like Feed the Machine is that there are almost no signs of song-writing schemes that ruined their previous efforts. And yes, Rockstar is a sarcastic, almost satirical song. Just listen to it again. It's Beverly Hills by Weezer reversed, and funny as hell, just look at it as a one big satirical joke.

    Fun fact: the track, one last run, was written by kroeger about his last drug run before calling it quits, during which the truck he had barrowed launched off the road and into a corn field.
    A cop stopped to see what happened, and the high, ramen-haired noodle brain had to hide the drugs in his pants, and laugh off the accident to get rid of the cop.

      Can't speak for Luke, but to me personally that's as idiotic as Brent Hines saying Judas Priest aren't a metal band (in case we forgot that that actually happened). Like, all opinions are subjective, but some just reek of such unmitigated arrogance that the person saying them deserves to be slapped simply for being an arrogant narcissist.
      Plus also, I'm pretty sure Corey could take Chad. And if anyone reading this is wondering why, go watch some live video of Slipknot. When you're the general behind an army of chaos like that, you can handle yourself.

      Yeah, I'm curious as well. I know there is one song on it he didn't like though, which was "Just Four". The song was re-released on Silver Side Up, and in his review of it, he said he didn't like it. I think he called it a "generic love song" or something.

    • @princealigorna7468
      @princealigorna7468 7 лет назад +6

      I happen to like Curb myself. Then again, I also liked Silver Side Up and The Long Road. I don't pull out Silver Side that much anymore. I'm with Luke that after awhile the formula becomes apparent, the lyrics become too overbearingly dark, and everything starts sounding the same (and by "the same" I mean what would happen if Silverchair, 3 Doors Down, and The Calling had a rape baby together, then repeatedly bashed it in the head with a wooden spoon), but in isolation I can listen to any one track on that one and probably still enjoy it. Curb and The Long Road on the other hand I think are both great and pretty good if a little formulaic respectively. It's AFTER The Long Road that I think Nickelback turns into the epitome of a production line rock band.

Nothing Could Come Between Us is a pretty good song, but the rest of their self-titled debut, while not the offensive misogynist stupid crap featured on The Truth Is and Scars and Souvenirs, doesn't hold much weight compared to Leader of Men, Breathe or Old Enough.
