  • The sixth video of my solo 'Railroader' career in a "let's play" style series. The road has expanded! We're hooked up with every industry from Sylva to Robbins Gap Tier 2+ with the road quickly expanding, building new installations along the way. New locos, out of debt, hittin' milestones!
    Let's gooooooooooo

    I splurged on the “tier 3” 2-8-0 and it’s my favourite thing ever. Walks up that Hemmingway grade with 2000t no problem, and can take tighter curves than the decapod. I like your philosophy of only using branch line power, up here in Canada the CP had plenty of secondary mainlines like this one, where a Consolidation was the biggest thing you’d ever see. Just unlocked the Alarka branch, making my first run up there tomorrow!

    There's a real Dillsboro, North Carolina. Don't ask for a beer, dry county. Enjoying your videos.

    Southern allowed "Santa Fe type 2-10-2" on the Murphy Branch but they could not be lashed together. There had to be a minimum of 3 cars between them. Also much of the western end towards Murphy(Andrews in game) had speed limits on freight of either 10 or 15 mph. That freight run from Asheville to Murphy must have been an all day job. Locomotive crews hated the 2-10-0 decapods because the lack of rear trucks was a kidney killer. The rough ride also made them unsuitable for passenger traffic. I just started a game based in Andrews and the Bryson run is a full hour with no stops. I have L&N servicing the Andrews interchange and running running L&N GP9's as a transfer job to their customer at Robinson Coal and then dropping cars at Bryson.

    Coal trains on steep grades is when the EMDs became king

    When you parked those empties on a grade up at the coal loader, you did set the brakes when you opened the brake pipe. However, just like the big wreck in Megantic with the oil tankers, the cars have brakes set by air brakes, but when ALL of the air bleeds off the cut of cars there is no air left to push on the brake shoes and off they run away down hill. You MUST set handbrakes when you leave a cut of cars parked, ANYWHERE!

    32:43 That little pocket is the Hemingway East Pulpwood Spur. It's on your Locations tab and I would assume will have some scenery at some point

    Watching those engines go too and from the coal mine reminds of the documentary on the Southern 4501 and now I want to go the TVRM and Stearns to visit the former K&T and see the CNOTP that is now part of NS mainline from the little cafe in the gift shop. My Papaw and me loved going down there on two day trips with family and riding the tourist train and watching freight trains highball past the gift shop and listening to sound as they flew by. My Papaw didn't even like trains, he just loved having something to share and make memories with between me and him.

    I wouldn't say the larger locos are necessarily out of place. Engine 1702 on the real world GSMR is an S-160, which I believe the largest Consolidation is based upon.

      Dillsboro has a turn table, but you'll have to buy it, but you don't have to build it like the bridges. Once you buy it's built. You also gain another yard.

    I have a fleet of 6 sw1's working my logging spur because all the steamers were having mad issues with how sharp the radius of the curves are. The steam locos were needing maintenance every other day (game play days). I've had the sw1's hauling the skeleton cars for two weeks now and all 6 are between 75% to 98% condition.

    51:35 You don't need a Fusee at 'End of Track' locations since the AI will park closer to them without it. But with the 2023.3.2 update that may not matter.

    • @orangejuche
      @orangejuche 8 месяцев назад

      You do want a fusee though because the AI is dumb and will park staring at an End of Track without notifying you that "Hey there's no track, pay attention to me!"

    They aren’t coal gondolas. They’re coal hoppers. Coal doesn’t get transported in gondolas.

      For the coal mine? None. Once you complete the 2nd Bryson bridge and accept the contract they appear at the interchange
