I noticed the GP9 has the vent cap on top of the short hood indicating it is fitted with a steam generator. So it can be used in year round passenger service as well. For those who may not be familiar with this subject; steam radiators with steam from the locomotive was used to heat the passenger cars. When diesel's started to be used in passenger service a Steam Generator was fitted to the diesel so it could supply the steam heat.
I was hoping someone would eventually cover the diesels. Excellent review, just really wished they would have included a horn swap feature like they do with the whistles. Maybe that will be down the road but who knows. I also think you hit the nail on the head with how well they captured the headlight appearance on the first try compared to almost every TSC payware Dev.
What I love about this more than anything is the size. Places actually feel different places, its a journey between them. Its not just the same piece of line with 6 scenarios of different wording.
Recently purchased this game and I'm thoroughly impressed by everything it features. Everything just for being Early Access is spot on, the mechanics are nice easy and enjoyable, the interactive pull whistle feature is phenomenal. Definitely one of the most beautiful pieces of train simulation I've ever seen up to this point. The Central of Georgia 5 Chime is my personal favorite whistle in the current phase of the game. It sounds absolutely phenomenal.
A magnificent collection of engines and rolling stock for the amazing price!! I hope the devs will understand how much their hard work is and will be sincerely appreciated. Thanks for your expert presentation of this.
Btw, diesels are not the top priority at the moment, (For example, the cab textures are not suppose to change with the body LOL), diesels are still very much a huge WIP
I'm not in Discord (deleted it and won't come back), but it looks like the 2-8-4 looks like an L&N Big Emma (I think he said that too). What are the others based off of? Is there a list elsewhere?
At this Time Railroades ist one btw. the Best Train-and Railroadgames i ever played. It makes a lot of fun, in the Companymode it is quite challenging :) It is already well developed and remarkably bug-free. The map depicts a beautiful branch line. The multiplayer is very good, and with a few friends the whole game is even more fun. One of them can even be the dispatcher, who sets the points on the interactive minimap. But if you coordinate well, every single player can do this on the map themselves. I can't wait to see how the game continues :)
This area is one of my ultra foams, it and Saluda naturally. We usually go up there a few times a year. Luckily you can re-live the history and accuracy riding the GSMR

Mallard's world record is very much debated. It's actually considered that the enormous PRR T1's were about 20 mph faster while hauling heavier consists, which is pretty nuts.
Thank you for the history lesson. I found it to be truly short and sweet. Absolutely amazing production numbers for some of these steam locomotives. Can't even imagine what would be involved in trying to ship one of these units on a ship across the ocean. A true testament of those who came before us.
the sounds and models are pretty descent taking into account it's in early access. Loved what they've done with the rolling stock. BTW, The SW horn is more darker and heavy. Hopefully the devs will add more details to the interiors, something like we have on Train Sim World. Overall, I'm down for this game and it's already installed on Steam. If (a huge if) modding is allowed, oh boy, there's bright future ahead
This game has so much potential to explore other regions of the US in this time period. I'm think some UP lines with the Big Boy, Challenger, and FEF. That would be so cool to see outside of Train Simulator.
I gotta say you're right about the details. They seem to have a lot of the small details there, from visuals to sound. Obviously some work to be done on more rolling sounds, transitions and polishing off the models, scenery and interiors. It's awesome to see the amount of locos and cars that come with it too, I was only expecting a few haha. Thanks for showing them off.
In the future I'd love to see an NW-2 or some other NW series EMD switcher. The OSR (Ontario Southland Railway) still has an NW-2 on their roster built in 1947 (although they don't use it much) and I did some training there when I was in college. A neat little engine. The NW was the upgrade to the original SW series. Hence the N. (S- six hundred horsepower, W- welded frame. And N- nine hundred horsepower, W- welded frame)
Can't wait to play this later this month. As a huge Steam Locomotive fan, there are diesels that I'm an absolute nut for too (mostly EMD units, and oddly specific ALCo and GE units but still)
Thank you for the history lesson. Always learn something new. I have hopes for this one, the last couple of Sims I bought were very disappointing. Thanks again

I usually play these types of games solo. The AI is useful but requires monitoring. This limits how many contracts that can be taken on. Is there any way to cancel a contract or do you just fail it or worse still, keep failing it every cycle? Hopefully the program is flexible enough to eventually add additional commands to the AI. What sealed the deal for me with Run 8 was their Otto AI. The AI with train sim classic can be given scripts for multiple trains. 52 miles is a lot of track. Even in its current state, it seems to be worth getting.
On the locos with outside valve gear does the valve gear change from forward to reverse? I noticed on some of the locos, the radius bar is down for full forward gear, it would be cool to see if that is animated so the radius rod would shift up when going into reverse

The beauty of Railroader is that it is part business/economy/career manager too, similar to derail valley. Though admittedly, the driving physics of derail valley appear to be more polished. However, my point is, the combination of sim and game/activity driven structure is a ton of fun. It really adds a lot to the gameplay experience.

Absolutely. I'm all for some very early diesels. Some old boxcabs, HH600, rs1/2 etc
