As I ate one or two bites I found myself going back for more. Pleasantly surprised that I finished the whole can. Honestly will try some different brands and make it a regular snack! Here in England, we mostly buy them fresh, the Isle of Man, off North West England has the best, they're called Manx after the original Viking name of the island. Superb when grilled and served with butter.
Sorry…. There’s a canned/tinned fish RUclips channel? Wow…. Go guys! I would not identify myself as a super big fan of canned/tinned fish (outside of the standards - tuna, salmon, anchovies), but this is what I love about RUclips! You can find a community for pretty much anything! Keep up the good work my man! Subbed!
1:05 NURI !!! Luv them and absolutely recommend them to people trying tin sardines for the first time. Reasonably priced, high quality ingredients, and DELICIOUS. I always put at least three cans in every Christmas package of assorted sardines/mollusks.
I keep a list on my phone of the sardines I’ve had. The top 8 positions are all Nuri, Bela, and Fishwife. Fishwife always gets a minor demerit for price. Nuri is at the local Asian grocery store for $5 a can so I keep like 20-30 cans on hand at any time. Love love love Nuri.
I love all of these. Watching this channel always makes me hungry. I need to go heat up some rice, and drop something from my dedicated tinned fish corner of our pantry on top. Maybe a little bit of hot sauce and salt, and catch up on some Netflix while I'm enjoying. Mouth is watering. Never stop being excited about canned fish. Never stop sharing the joy.
Been loving your content Matt! In my 31 years of life I never had any tinned fish until recently. And as someone who loves seafood, thank you for showing me what I have been missing out on all these years. Gave me a few more to add to the list as well!
Growing up in France I was truly spoiled by access to amazing tinned fish of all varieties. So many flavours beyond oil / tomato sauce too. There are delicious options from East and South East Asian too like dace with black bean and abalone.
I remain in admiration of those men and women who pack these! I've wondered before how long it takes to learn how to pack these fish as beautifully as they do. It seems almost a miracle to me that we can purchase these fish for such a reasonable cost. As I've heard about foods so much here in the South, it's a gift from God! Thank you for your great channel.
I have just found your channel via this video popping up on my YT home. I can't believe how long you have been creating content around tinned fish for what, 4-5 years, and suddenly tinned fish pops off on TT in the last year or so! You deserve credit for being the first to do it!!! ❤❤
Well that was well done in the information overload department. My 1st video of the day before breakfast & coffee. I'm going to have to re-watch this again.
Canned fish was a favourite easy meal when I was offshore racing out of Douarnenez in France. Douarnenez has been a big centre for fish canning for more than a century and has a Museum of the Sardine. My co-skipper Nathan is particularly fond of Petite Navire's Tuna Catalan style while my own heavenly ring pull is Saupiquet's Mackerel in Mustard Sauce. I brought a dozen cans home with me in July 😋
I love smoked oysters and this seems like a gateway into tinned fish. I'm not a huge sardine fan, but I might try Kippers after this... Thanks for the video!
Your knowledge and ability to communicate the intricate complexities of the various canned fishies is without parallel! But you need to cover even MORE material and information formation! Thank you!
10/10 Somehow this appeared in my homepage. Watched the whole video. Had no idea what to expect, was met with wonder. I am not partial to any tinned fish but I cook with anchovi paste. You have changed my mind and I will begin eating tinned fish.

Little bits like this are 'why I'm here', thanks for being the King of Fishy Freaks!
Ekone oysters would have to be my go-to for Oysters. Raised in Willipa Bay on the Washington coast and smoked locally are delicious but spendy. I don't eat Chinese smoked oysters so these seem to be my only alternative when craving smoked oysters.

There's probably a hunting and gathering reason for the strong association we make between foods and places. There's a whole menu for camping that I barely touch otherwise.
While I do love canned fish, I also understand the camping connection. I always associated canned products with either camping, or just being in an apocalypse of sorts. Even when I'm just sitting in bed at 3 AM and eating straight out of a can, I imagine myself taking shelter in a vault somewhere away from the cruelty of the world outside.
Smoked sprats as a beginner can, I dunno. I'd say a good small pilchard, maybe Matiz's small w/ sweet piquillo, or José Gourmet, or Ramón Peña. Smoked sprats have that whole stanky thing going on, you know? I'm not saying it's bad, but it might be a turn-off for some.

I'm Portuguese, and my favorite canned Sardines are Sabor do Mar and Bom Petisco. I always buy the spicy one in oil or tomato sauce. These companies make good Mackerel too, but the best Mackerel is the one my mom makes in the oven with spicy bread filling inside their bellies. Anyway, canned fish is such a comfort food. When my mom didn't feel like cooking, we'd toast bread and always have canned fish and maybe some boiled eggs or olives on the side. It brings me back to my childhood when I saw this video and saw so many cans.
