      In addition to this excellent innovative recipe, I would suggest a simple sardine soup. I use tomato sauce sardines. Add drained diced tomatoes, can of condensed milk, sauteed onions, garlic, and spices to taste. The fishy taste is minimal. I would hope that this chef will elevate this basic soup for winter days.

      That's funny you mentioned this! My mom used to make a sardine dish with a coconut-milk based broth with curry spice. Also great during winter. Totally agree with you!

      Interesting how curry and coconut go together, especially in the winter (northern hemisphere). I spent over a decade in Britain. When ill from UK weather, i would go have a curry. There is something in the South Asian / Indian cuisine that would fortify me and 'pick me up' to get through a tough day. Great recipe here - Fishermen's eggs.

    In all my (apparently sheltered) 70 years I had no idea there were 'recipes' with sardines. In my very early years my dad always ate sardines from the can with really cold beer and I tried it too with him. It was kinda tradition when I visited him and I thought that was the only way! haha. Today I looked in the cupboard and found some cans of sardines and decided to see if anyone cooked with them! and Voila! Here you are, and thank you so much! New sub.

    1:25 it’s called the pith. It holds the highest concentration of capsaicin in the pepper. Many people say remove the seeds to reduce the heat but it’s the pith that really adds pepper heat to a dish.

    • @SanjayaCookery
      @SanjayaCookery  Месяц назад +1

      Both pith and seeds carry heat, but in the video I am using a bell pepper, which is quite mild and sweet... so I didn't want it for textural reasons. However, when I am cooking for myself and not guests/family, I will use hot chili peppers and keep both the pith/seeds in the dish. Thanks for watching! Cheers :)

    That looks delicious, sir! I only eat 1-2 meals per day, depending on hunger and activity. This is very similar to one of my staple meals. I alternate between sardines, kippers, oysters, salmon, and mackerel.
    Sometimes I go for a Mexican flavor with Serrano chilis, tomatoes, onions, garlic, lime, and sliced avocado on the side. When I buy whole fish I go for an Indian flavor with scotch bonnets, curry spices, and raita on the side. Korean style is best with oysters, gochujang or ssamjang, ginger, garlic, scallions, and kimchi on the side. You can’t go wrong with fish and eggs. They are such a delicious combo!

    Onions, sweet peppers or bell peppers, jalapeños, scotch bonnet, or Serranos (depending on where you're at) garlic, tomatoes, Chiles, and scrambled eggs topped with cheddar blends. Some have cilantro or spinach and mushrooms too!

    Sounds like an amazing meal and will try. A different use of is a sardine soup. I have used one easy altering recipe for years. Clam chowder, paella, and bouillabaisse are complicated and expensive. With the inexpensive tomato sauce 15 ounce tins I simply add a can of condensed (not sweetened evaporated) milk, some diced and drained tomatoes as a base. I add minced garlic, spices, black olives, sauteed onions and other veggie goodies. Simple, cheap, not fishy tasting and full of Omega-3 and other nutrients. Especially nice in cold weather. I am certain that Sanjaya can redo for something special.

    Simply incredible! I just returned from Publix at 7am today cause I saw a similar recipe last night. In short, I made the other recipe (adding mushrooms, red onion, garlic, arugula), and it was great BUT when I saw you add the fresh lemon I was like "of course! why didn't I think of that!". Also, I used my air fryer and a glass bowl since my pan is not 100% steel/iron. Slightly more convenient but less aesthetically pleasing than a skillet :)

    This looks awesome. Not really a fan of sunny side up eggs so I might scramble them a little bit at the end but otherwise Magnifique what I like to do is actually take sardines packed in oil the whole thing into a medium skillet add butter and onion and whatever vegetable you would like saute that very gently don't break the sardines and then add rice at the very end just toss it in the pan give it a few stirrers enough to soak up the oil and butter mixture and heat the rice... season to taste. Plate. Squeeze of lemon and good to go

    I grew up eating plain sardines on saltine crackers, and canned smoked oyster on ritz crackers. I gave up those tinned meats when I gave up crackers, many mooms ago. A while back, I found a recipe for sardines simmered in tomato sauce that I would eat with rice. Now I've given up rice, too. My husband always enjoyed eating sardines with cocktail sauce, a shared memory with his father, It's tasty. I'm always looking for sardine recipes that don't require bread, rice, crackers or any other grains. I'm sure that why your video popped up. Thanks for sharing your recipe.

      Only consume EVOO from the can. Beware of cottonseed oil, soy oil, etc. In fact, buy only EVOO or water packed sardines.

    What veg would you sub for the bell peppers that would still hit all the nutritional marks that the pepper would have? I just really, really hate Bell Pepper as a flavor but love everything else going into this dish... I love spicy peppers, just not bell 😅

    • @SanjayaCookery
      @SanjayaCookery  5 дней назад +1

      I love spicy peppers as well and they're quite nutritious so I would sub with that! I made this batch bell because not everyone likes the heat ;-)

    Bit late I know, but I really like the look of this dish😋
    I don't have an oven safe pan though, and am wondering if I could use something glass or ceramic?. I have a few casserole dishes, a fairly shallow flan dish and a few different sizes of bowl which might work?

      I know several people that are over 80 years of age that have eaten canned fish for the most of their lives. My guess is the nutritional benefits of the fish outweigh the trace minerals. I agree with Jack LaLanne that nutrition + regular exercise can help overcome other environmental factors. Thanks for watching!

      Of course, I'm a regular sardine eater. Although when, I'm lazy it just to drain the sardines on a bed of hot rice and squeeze some fresh lemon juice on top with some squirts of good quality hot sauce!
