I like the translucent acrylic boards better but I think it's a fun way to show off some of your components a bit. My real problem is they really don't blend in with anything else. Great if you want the stand out piece, not so good if you want it to fit in with the rest of your setup.
I love transparent stuff, but I definitely prefer the frosty look of the black key caps - I feel like the full clear top might make keys harder to read and be more blinding, lol
I just ordered the Clear Purple color after watching this video.. I have tried their clear Linear switches before and while not perfect, they are really good
I agree with the Plouffe. Transparent electronics is very much a later 80s to early 2000s thing, and the aesthetic needs to return. I believe the most famous transparent device among the geeks is the transparent Apple PowerBook Duo, which is fabled to be a factory prototype.
a even cheaper keyboard that is also acrylic is the womier k87. it is a frosted acrylic tkl keyboard and the rgb diffusion is immaculate. pudding keycaps look great on it. you can get the keyboard for around $60 - $80. its also hot swap
The first sentence of this video "not a lot of clear electronics anymore..." My news feed the last month has had at least 5 items w/ transparency. I'm 100% here for it. Laptops, Keyboards, phones.
We’re also starting to see transparent controllers return with leverless controllers, namely the MPress & the latest revision of the SnackBox Micro (not the XL, sadly). Even the PS4 Pro & DualShock 4 had a translucent blue variant for one limited edition version of the pair. I hope Nintendo offers at least a translucent version of the Switch 2 (whenever it comes out).
Minor gripe with the set, is it possible to modify the table so that it is more stable? Having it shake all the time is a bit jarring when trying to focus on shots shown.
super looking forward to the keyboard booth at LTX. I want to spend some money on a new keyboard but have no idea where to start with all the different switch styles and options
That thing is hideously ugly. The PCB color is... a choice. Having dealt with clear keyboards in the past they give me the heebie-jeebies. After a short period of use the inevitably show all the disgusting crap that users drop in their keyboards. When retiring clear devices that have been in use for a few years you learn a lot about a user's cleanliness habits, eating habits, grooming habits and all sorts of other aspects of their lives by what is trapped in the device. All of that is present in standard keyboards, they just don't showcase it like clear devices do. It is a good thing that it can come as a kit so that the user can know how to disassemble it and clean the inaccessible areas that gunk always seems to find a way into. I remember some G4 Cubes, keyboards, mice, and speakers that looked like clear acrylic covered Petre dishes. How they got some of that crap into the speakers I don't want to know. Since it is not a full keyboard it is fairly useless for my particular use case. I rely too heavily on the keys these keyboards lack every day. Which means, even if I found it attractive, it would not make my list of keyboard candidates were I in the market for one.
Oooh 👀 this is quite nice. I wasn't sure what to expect with this but I love the transparent look and switches. I love the brass to this it goes so well I have no need for this but I kind of want it lol
0:17 "they don't do that anymore, at least, not with everything" must be the dumbest argument I've heard all week. I'm drunk, idk, but this diminishes any will to take this person seriously
I kept seeing this keyboard all over tiktok and Instagram, I caved and it just arrived. I AM OBSESSED. It's beautifully crafted, it feels high quality. I think like any other keyboards it will take some getting used to because every keyboard is different, but once you adjust, it's lovely. I find the clicks so satisfying.
Whats the point of having a clear electronic if the entire thing is encased in metal, you see nothing. No point in this product being clear, if you want something clear go handheld and swap a switch shell, it gives far better pleasure.
I love transparent tech but i gotta say, transparent + rgb is not a good combo, it reminded me of old cheap mouse that are transparent and also uses and led lights for effects, just looks so fckin cheap since it's transparent
Fantastic review! Plouffe does a great job of accurately describing the typing experience for a keyboard. I grabbed the Epomaker keyboard from a prior episode and the switches were just as described! I love this thing 😭
Honestly I even prefer the little notecard style manual for the keyboard over the plenty of manufacturers that can’t even be arsed to include anything and make you download the manual. Hate that.
I wish a lot more stuff was transparent, that's why I got interested in electronics in the first place. After seeing the nuts and bolts, I wanted to take it apart and see how it worked.
Transparent.. ie: you can actually see how gross is it is at all times. Yeah... I'll pass. Some things your just better off not knowing. Looks very pretty when it's clean tho!
This is pretty neat. I remember thinking clear electronics cases was pretty cool, back in the 90's. Not as much now, but it's still neat. If they added one more line to their clear keycaps collection, I would have suggested frosted, to get most of the benefits from the clear allowing a lot of extra RGB effect, but with less glare. The frosted look would have been a nice effect too. All of the versions have RGB it seems, even if they don't demonstrated it on their main product page, so getting the Clear Black + RGB would probably look really good; the same RGB as with the regular clear, but adding a bit of muting to it to make the glare less intense.
I feel like one of the reasons transparent shells went out of fashion is because of heatsinks. Something like a PS5, if you made the plastic transparent, you'd still just see a block of opaque metal and not the actual PCB you were hoping for.
I'd buy one RIGHT NOW if it weren't missing a ton of keys. I don't know what all "enthusiast keyboards" are these tiny little fractional keyboards...wtf...
If you wanna tape mod it and still want the led's, use clear packing tape. It creates a different sound profile to masking tape, but it still sounds great.
First thing I thought of when I saw the thumbnail was the flux keyboard on kickstarter. Sure hope you guys are gonna take a look at that one too, when it is available!
Funny, i can't use a bunch of brands (like Logitech) because they only supply ISO here (and only ansi for me). Even when a distributor makes an order with the part number of ansi versions, what gets delivered are the iso versions. Same for apple . Stupid and such a shame :(
I fully support bringing back clear electronics, especially in bright colors. Not sure if I'd bother with a clear keyboard though, not much to see there.
I hate rgb or any kind of lights in electronics, even the indicator lights. I usually just tape them over with electrical tape if I can't turn them off or remove them completely. I want to sit in complete darkness.
So few keys on it you can see right through the keyboard. If only channels would stop pushing TKL and smaller designs that are sold at prices a full size goes for.
cool keyboard and all but these custom keyboard companies need to learn to make full size keyboards that have numpads n shit and not these shitty mini/small keyboards.
Thank you so much for mentioning that it goes to sleep and you have to wake it up. I almost wasted 200 dollars on this piece of trash. I hate mice and keyboards that go to sleep. Makes it completely unusable for video games. Thank you for pointing that out. None of the other reviewers did.

Not a fan of transparant keyboards, but I love exposed circuitry. That backside looks awesome.
@modest mouse colored person yes, yes I did...
I too like awesome backsides
Plouffe's presenting has gotten much more natural
When he's presenting something hes highly knowledgeable in and enjoys, it shows. 👌
That would be awesome on a glass desk. The bottom leds would light up the floor!
My thought exactly! I was thinking about having this for my TV in the living room.
The "Clear Black" variant reminds me of circa 2000s Apple keyboards shipped with G3 iMacs. I love it!
I stuck an eBay LED light strip into mine, and this keyboard is really bringing back that vibe. I love it.
I legit asked for some new clear keycaps for christmas for exactly this sort of aesthetic. Blue lighting + blue clear keycaps = joy
yeah - nigh, low light - and keyboard backlight trying blind you eyes together with 1000 nit monitor
This is so gaudy... and I absolutely love it! Day one buy for me... if it had a number pad. The trend of tenkeyless keyboards makes me incredibly sad.
I just ordered the Clear Purple color after watching this video.. I have tried their clear Linear switches before and while not perfect, they are really good
I love how he is flipping us off when trying out all the RGB modes
would love to see them make a full keyboard

@@Akkbar21 Real men use 2%
lol thats what i said. i need a 10 key. can be a 95% or something, idc, but i need the numpad.
100% layout is rare in the mechanical keyboard scene. Most people go with a 60%-tkl layout and make a separate numpad if they need one

Glad to see transparent tech coming back. Need more main stream companies to do it again.
I like transparent tech but this keyboard looks hella bad, it's super unclean, from the top I would keep it upside down the entire time
Beauty is “clearly” in the eye of the beholder. Waaaay too blingy for my liking.

I have the blue translucent ps4 controller. Sadly it's only half translucent. The back shell is stil a solid color.
Cant wait for dirt and food between the keys be visible now 😢
Wow. Usually when Plouffe says a keyboard is “reasonably” priced, I disagree entirely with him. This one actually isn’t terrible.
If there is one with a full numlock pad I would consider it for sure.
