      You’re happy, what is a mistake! I have nothing negative to say about Toyota, I’ve bought 2 Prius cars in a row, because I didn’t have any negative experience with the first one, after 8 years, and the same thing with my second one! Loved my Dealer, great service, but the Honda Ridgeline fit my needs better for me. I’m happy, you’re happy, where’s the mistake? Is it because we made better choices than other people, and are happy 😃? My money was well spent, that’s what matters!

    I’m 65. I bought my first “new car” as a young Navy Officer, at Colonial Toyota in Virginia Beach in 1985: a 4x4 Toyota SR5 Access Cab Mirage limited edition pickup. I put over 450,000 miles on that truck. Surf fishing, camping, joy riding....got married, had kids, became a federal wildlife officer....that truck was my daily driver....up and down the east coast...Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, Virginia, New Jersey, Rhode Island.....like a loyal friend. After a 1.75 roll over, totaled, at 250,000 miles, it was still strong enough that my Toyota dealership body shop, rebuilt her for my insurance check! Sadly, rust cancer took her--and I still sold her for an even grand (a young Sailor wanted to build her into a beach surf fishing rig). Years later....I now own a 2020....TRD OR with 6 speed manual (I still enjoy rowing the gears!!) specced-out to as close as possible as my old SR5.....down to the dark gray and moonroof. Leather and power seats and windows are welcome “old guy” upgrades. This likely, is my last pickup....as I hope she and I will see many years of mountain biking, fly fishing, backpacking, visits with the kids, trips to the lumber yards, hauling mulch and wood (and occasionally the groceries). Great video.....particularly the Magnum PI reference! Bravo-Zulu, sir.....again, an enjoyable video! And I really like that interior in your truck- the tan/orange(?) accents!

    • @AlphaShark
      @AlphaShark  4 года назад +17

      G M Andres Wow what an amazing story! First and foremost, thank you for defending our country! I don’t know what color your SR5 was but I always picture the black SR5 from Back to the Future. I’ll have to google your truck! That’s so amazing how well that truck treated you, I’m happy to hear that. Also many people have complimented the orange/tan interior, I’ve found it’s only an option on the newer SR5 models, I love it personally. I hope my truck lasts me that long and I can tell an awesome story like yours. God bless! (And I had hoped that Magnum part would make people smile!)

    I have an 07 Tacoma v6 4.0 since brand new and it still drives like new with 418,000 miles. Same engine and transmission. No big issues ever. It burns oil about 3/4 of a quart every 5,000 miles when I change the oil, not much. Yours will last a long time! Your kids will definitely get to drive it if you keep it.

    I finally got a Tacoma last week. My first new-ish car, and my first auto loan. 2017 Access Cab 4x4 SR5 in silver. I had a pretty eventful first weekend of ownership. I did some offroading to help my relatives who were hunting carry back their game, then the next day I hauled lumber for fence building. Then I drove ~5 hrs back home. I got a really diverse range of experiences in a short amount of time and I can say the truck is a trooper. It's very capable offroad, it handles heavy loads well relative to it's size class, and it is a comfortable long-distance driver. That combined with the resale value, the looks, and the long-term reliability really makes me really love this truck.

    Mine only shifts sluggishly when the engine is cold, but when warmed up it's buttery smooth. It is geared for fuel efficiency so it tends to short shift, that's what creates that gear finding thing when the truck realizes you want more power then it forces itself to downshift, but that's every car that's geared for efficiency, put it in manual mode and it will high rev all day.

    • @MrBamaluvr1
      @MrBamaluvr1 4 года назад

      I wish that the tailgate would lock with the rest of the truck, too. There is a cheap remedy to prevent someone stealing the entire tailgate. Buy a 1/2” ~ 3/4” hose clamp and open the tailgate about half way. On the right hand side you will notice a slot joint where the tailgate would have to be positioned to remove it. Wrap the hose clamp around that joint and tighten it down. No, it’s not totally burglar proof; but, I doubt someone wanting to steal a tailgate is going to be carrying a screwdriver with them or take the time to take the hose clamp off first.

    After months of debating and years of wanting a tacoma, I purchased a SR5 access cab 4 banger in Cement this past weekend. Now, I
    am in Florida (no mountains) so take my info knowing that. On the interstates driving 60-70 mph, I'm getting 28-30mpg this is without ECT on. 70-73 mph I'm getting about 23-25 mpg, anything past 76mph i'm getting about 20-21mpg, sometimes it shoots up to maybe 23 or 24. Smooth ride, quiet engine, sure it's slow to accelerate but once you reach your speed of choice it's smooth sailing. Purchased with 17 miles on it, I have 170 on it as I type this, I just got to 3/4 mark for gas. Plus it was 4K cheaper than a V6. No complaints on my end!

    Got a '16 SR5 2.7 2WD Access cab. Best mod i did was the Nitro 4.88 gears. Feels like this is the gearing Tacoma transmissions were meant to be paired with and should have came this way from factory. A lot quicker acceleration, no gear hunting and better MPG highway as it isnt banging into 4th all the time. KN filter, secondary filter delete, and passenger tires instead of steel belted truck tires {this configuration truck is light enough to do it, rides way quieter and more plush}. The lighter tires w/ better rolling resistance, geared lower, and air filter upgrade the 4 cylinder has great grunt and gets 20/25mpg now instead of 19/23.

Other than that, the AC still churns out cold air still with its original charge, the 4 wheel drive rivals my Wrangler's prowess in the snow, and it still has the original clutch. Granted I only have 166K on it but it is reliable as all get out. The only major things I replaced on it are the battery, tires, parts of the exhaust system, alternator, harmonic balancer, and a rear axle seal had to be replaced. Other than that it has served me well for nearly 21 years.

    I just had one year with my Tacoma as well. I for sure agree about the trans being a bit annoying, but it's not a huge deal. The mod I did after the first month is adding a K&N cold air intake. Hands down best mod ever. Increased hp, better gas mileage, and it sounds awesome when you punch on the throttle. Cheers to one year!

    Thank you for the honest review. Just got a Toyota to possibly replace my F150. (have not picked it up yet).
    I laughed a little at the beginning of your video as the very first thing I did to my F150 was remove the power tailgate lock actuator power. Too many times I was caught with my hands full, gloves on trying to get keys out of my pocket, or asking someone to load or unload a pallet from the bed after I walked away from the truck (work truck) only having them come find me to say they could not get the tailgate down 10 minutes later. Either disconnect or else I had to leave the cab of my truck unlocked with all my tools in it. I found it funny this was your first "issue" as this was a plus for me. Case of different strokes for different folks. I guess it depends how and why you are accessing the bed of your truck.
    My 2019 F150 also does not have LED fog lights.....
    I bought the Toyota because my F150 has used a LOT of oil since the day it was new (only 25,000 miles) and other miscellaneous quality issues. Hoping the Toyota is better overall....

      Marisa Marino I will pray for your relational status to find a Godly man and your future truck purchases! 😁 it’s definitely hard to find Truly Godly people in general nowadays. But I always like to remind myself of Psalm 37:4 “Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.” I recently learned that that doesn’t always mean we’ll find the things we seek on our time, its on Gods time. I’m sure you weren’t planning on being single this long! But maybe God has had a purpose in that singleness, you could meet the right guy tomorrow! But I’ve always found that when I lean on the expectation of people I’m always let down, I just cling to God in the hard times and he comes through.

    My wife had a 2006 Toyota Camry xle with a V6 and right from the start it had a weird jerk at times went to 2 dealers and one of them said it’s the combination of going from a highly tuned Lexus engine and tuning it down to using lower grade 87 octane fuel and fly by wire gas pedal that it’s trying to catchup I got a Lexus mechanic to drive it and no jerk for him he drove it more sedate not in a hurry and it was smooth we drove that thing for 145000 miles and traded it for another Camry this time Hybrid well I just picked up a Tacoma limited after driving a Ford Edge and the shifting is up and down but to me it’s a truck and no big deal they do have issues with trucks that the back tailgate sticks from snow and ice with electric lock and unlock so I think that’s why Toyota kept with the mechanical rear lock 🔐

    I am sure this was just my Toyota dealer.... I had shaking issues in the steering wheel for nearly two years. Took my Tacoma to the dealer at least 8 times in the previous time frame for the chronic issue. They couldn't find anything wrong... I finally took it to a trusted independent car mechanic and found that I had a cracked header. This issue started at about 75,000 miles and continued to 90,000 miles while still under warranty. I traded it in for a new Ridgeline and couldn't be happier. If you have issues with your Tacoma and the dealer just can't find it... go to a trusted independent mechanic.

    Great video. I had a liver transplant on January 3, 2020. The video was awesome. I like the Tom Selleck part that was funny. Upon my 6 month anniversary of my transplant I thought it befitting to buy a truck. I have always liked the Tacoma since the early 2000’s. I like the body style and heard great stories about how they handle. I traded in my 2014 Honda Accord and got me a 2019 Tacoma. I didn’t want brand new because I’m not a fan of the depreciation once you drive it off the lot. I was lucky to find a 2019 with 5k miles and it is a TDR 4x4 Off Road. I am really digging this truck. I am in the process of accessorizing it. I am grateful that God has given me this opportunity at a second chance at life and to move forward in my life. Your prayers would be greatly appreciated. I know this comment is a little late but I wanted to give in my two cents on my leased 2021 Toyota Tacoma. It's an SR5 just like yours but in Magnetic Grey Metallic with the matching dark grey wheels. I absolutely love this truck! It's been a great daily driver and a dependable work truck for my detailing business! Since mine is a '21, I have the upgraded power drivers seat and 8-inch touchscreen. Just like you mentioned in the cons, I do have the exact same bluetooth issues even with the updated head unit. Once I get it going, it works great! I don't agree with the people who think this truck drives horribly or is uncomfortable because I feel the opposite. It has a nice and smooth driving feel owing to its body-on-frame construction. Just like you said, it eats potholes which is a huge benefit compared to my Honda Civic Hatch trade-in. The seats are supportive and the driver seat is even more comforting knowing you can find the right spot thanks to power.
    It also looks the part. The Chevy Colorado and Ford Ranger look too blobby and bland whereas the Tacoma is boxy and rugged. That's probably one of the reasons why they sell well other than reliability. I'm surprised at how well my fuel economy is doing. When I drove five minutes down the road at my old job, I was only averaging between 16-17 mpg. Since I'm driving longer distances with my new business, I'm now averaging 21-22 mpg which is fantastic for a V6! Even though I have time to think this through but I'm debating whether to buy out my lease or trade it in for the next generation Tacoma. I'll have to see what the new one has to offer. Great review by the way. Very well written, humble, and a great sense of humor! Thanks.

      Never too late to comment! Thanks for your opinion. I see so many complaints about the transmission, driver's seating position, and the looks being "dated" I personally think it's the sleekest truck out there next to the newly unveiled 22' Frontier. I love how comfortable it is too, we're getting close to my 2-year update on the truck and I still love it as much as the day I first drove it off the lot. It's an excellent truck and probably the best of the midsize for now so I think you made a great choice! God bless you too, thank you for the kind words for my channel. P.S. Clicked your channel and I love it, I would love to find a Hotwheels or Matchbox Tacoma for my desk, you seem to be the expert and I couldn't find one? Just found your channel. I've liked the Tacoma for some time now! I'm currently owning my 3rd Toyota. I have a 2019 Toyota Camry XSE and love it! My 3rd Camry also I might add. Excellent quality in Toyota! Dependable and definitely reliable! Also a "fellow Christian"! I will be watching several of your videos this coming Memorial Day week! Always my personal best for you, your Family and your channel! Mark in Iowa.

      Thanks Mark, that really made me smile! God blessed me with this channel and I absolutely love making people smile and glorifying God while doing it. Who would've thought part of my ministry would be pickup truck reviews? I really hope you enjoy my other content!

      I will enjoy it all. I am definitely sold on Toyota now however. I also watched your 2019 Tacoma Limited video. Another quality video and pickup as well! I might suggest youtuber Toyota Jeff in Raleigh North Carolina. I’ve followed him for more than 2 years now. He is all things Toyota as he is a senior rep with Fred Anderson Toyota in Raleigh. Mark.

      I have watched Jeff yes, That’s a good channel! I watch a lot of car you tubers and I’ve taken inspiration from people like Doug Demuro, Raiti’s rides and Car Confections. I saw what they did and I was like “I bet I can do that but with a little more God and humor!” And... I’m floored I’ve even been able to get this far. God is good all the time. - Isaac

    I’m debating on getting a 2019 SR5 now. I’ve never owned a truck before, always been a small car guy. But a pickup just offers so much more utility and living in the south now it’s a huge plus. Trying to watch as many reviews on this thing as I can lol

    • @AlphaShark
      @AlphaShark  3 года назад

      Best thing you can do is test drive it! I believe the first one I test drove was a red SR base model, I came back a few months later and bought an SR5 because I knew it was the truck I wanted even from the first test drive.

    In the market for a tacoma but looking more for a 2x4 rear wheel drive in 4 cyl/ Crew cab. Enough power in the 4? Not really hauling much with it. What are your thoughts? Great video by the way.

    • @AlphaShark
      @AlphaShark  4 года назад +1

      Pauley thanks! I would say go for it! If you’re not hauling the 4 cyl. Does a fine job. The only draw back is you’re only getting a very mild fuel economy bump on the 4 vs. the 6. It’s only like rated 2 mpg better which sucks. But if you don’t need the 4wheel drive and stuff I’d say Taco is the way to go for reliability!

    • @megadthes8427
      @megadthes8427 4 года назад +2

      Always test drive! 4 cyl tacos r always a solid reliable pickup. But they do seem a bit weaker/slow under the bigger Gen2-3 body, this is evident by noticing the lackluster gas mileage of the 4cyl vs 6cyl. It will be fine for a daily driver, hauling a kid or 2, and moving minor bed loads. 2x4 at least is a must in light snow. If you don’t need to pull big loads or want a ton of horsepower/speed or plan on taking it off road, it’s a winner for sure! Everyone loves Tacos!

      I love the 2.7 liter 4 cyl in my old 08 Tacoma. I felt I was carrying more in that truck than other people were in there bigger trucks.
