  • In this video I'll show you how to disassemble take apart an HP 15 laptop with Windows 8, Windows 7, or Windows 10. This will work with any of the model numbers below. Unfortunately I discovered the RAM is actually placed on the bottom of the motherboard logicboard. You have to take apart the laptop in order to upgrade it. Ridiculous HP! You can also use this video to replace the keyboard, CPU fan, sound audio speakers, power jack, DVD, screen, wi-fi card, RAM, harddrive, etc. Disassemble Any HP Pavilion 15 P series notebook
To see how many Ram slots your HP 15 Laptop has go to the following link. If it says 2 Dimm you have 2 Memory Ram slots and if it says 1 DIMM you only have one. h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/pu...

if you are in the market for a new laptop I would recommend an ASUS due to how they are manufactured now compared to HP, Dell, Gateway, etc today. I would go with the Asus i5 20gb Ram 512 SSD drive on Amazon. I own an HP 15r210dx since 2015 and was wrongly disassembling it from the back trying to get to the keyboard and almost broke it because it is not possible. Thanks to your video I was able to get to the keyboard the correct way and clean it from the top/inside with ease. Thanks so much!

O.K. Very helpful video, with two comments:
    1) Your hand often obscures the actual action you're performing after you've identified a component. It's not that hard to figure out with experience, but for less experienced users it would be useful to let them see which way you're lifting/tugging/twisting.
    2) I get that you didn't realize there's ONLY ONE DIM slot until after you had taken everything apart while making the video, but it would be REALLY, REALLY, REALLY useful during post or in a message to tell your audience that upfront. I just stepped through the same process you did, following along with your video, only to learn after all the pieces are sitting around my workshop that I can't install the second DIMM module I was planning to install by watching your video.

It's not that hard -- a spudger and a steady hand come in handy. Can't recommend it for everyone, but after you've done a couple (open a laptop) it's pretty straightforward, thanks to YT videos.

I've been searching for forever to find a video on how to upgrade my RAM and I finally found it! The model number for my laptop is G7P83AV, so for anyone searching for help with that specific laptop, this video works. The setup is the same, but I also had to remove the fan and it had two RAM slots. Thanks for this video! Saved me a lot of money. :)

Thank you for this, it was very helpful and exactly what I needed. I have successfully upgraded a HP 15-G077NR from 4GB to 8GB. I did cringe a little every time I saw you drop a screw haphazardly off to the side. One thing I find indispensable for this kind of project is some sort of screw organizer. A small ice cube tray works well. It not only helps you get the right screws back in the right places, but also helps keep you from skipping any steps in the reassembly.

It appears HP meant that particular laptop to live a limited lifetime, then for the customer to buy another HP laptop to replace the first one. Budget friendly can equal false economy. A more capable, more easily repairable and up-gradable, laptop would actually save you money and frustration over time. This reminds me of the current trend of all sealed phones without easily replaceable batteries, a practice that IMO should be stopped. Repair-ability and published repair manuals/pdf's should be mandatory for all machines sold in the USA.

I had one slot being used with only 4gig RAM from the factory. I was able to bump it up to 16gig ( 8gig in each slot ). Thanks for your video it showed exactly how to get to the slots.

I followed this guide for replacing the hard drive on my HP 15-r127nl (I haven't tried upgrading the ram as I'm scared of breaking it). The steps were exactly the same, so this video helped immensely, however note that if you're inexperienced like me, plugging the flex cables for the power button, touchpad, and keyboard back in is a pain in the ass. Also I accidentally bent the very thin keyboard, so even if it still works it sticks up a little bit on one corner.

Try taking the keyboard out and re-inserting it. Put the bottom in first, making sure the tabs go into the right slots, then just press the top in. The first time I put mine back, it stuck up a little because I hadn't inserted it quite right.

I actually fixed it a while ago, but I forgot to edit my comment. I had to push along the keyboard's border with my fingernail and it snapped right back in.

Helped me add 16 GB RAM on hp 15 205tu non windows . Initially I thought my 8 GB of 16 GB purchase gone waste but my Linux dmidecode output did not disappoint as it had shown 2 DIMM slots. Really helpful video. Mouse connector missed by me seems :( Now dont have the patience to open it again :)

I wish I had seen this specific video cause I looked at all the other hp 15 notebook tutorials and they were completely different from my laptop. My dad basically had to figure out how to take it apart. If I had seen this and known about the keyboard coming off I could have done it myself

I did all the procedure, it worked amazingly well, plus I changed the start button. I was wondering however if I need to install some software afterwards? A driver or so? Or is it good to go like that? Thank you

Not sure my exact model number as I got it used and the info panel on the back is scratched off, but I followed the video last night and everything was the same except mine does have 2 ram ports! My laptop was doing the black screen on start up and one method to fix was to re seat the ram card, so I did all this just to reseat the ram lol but it was much easier than I wasexpecting. I just ordered a 1 tb ssd and an 8 GB ram card that I will install when theyarrive. Thank you! ..

thanks man, i found your tutorial very instructive and useful. My pc is hp 15r-225 nl and it's almost egual. I followed the tutorial until the motherboard removal. I didn't understand how to remove the lcd cable from the motherboard, and in your video there isnt't the cpu cooler, that in my case seems to prevent the motherboard removal...or i think so. any suggestion? For this reason i could not check if my laptop has 1 or 2 ram sots. The motherboard seems a little bit different from yours.
