Great Video , me as a tech totally agree with you, why manufactures put such a large hard drive in a laptops is getting really silly some are now getting 2tb drives in them, If they were to put more SSD in laptops the price would come down on SSD. It seems the OEM's are trying to make it harder for us guys to try and repair laptops just putting a small compartment door like we used to have would have been an easy job to put a new drive in rather than having to split the laptop and then risk the customers warranty. I am surprised that they don't solder the ram in as well so we can't upgrade that to. Once again Great video keep up the good work.

Nice Tutorial Sir. I have HP au620tx laptop. I want to set up 2 hard drives (existing 1 TB HDD and other SSD drive) on laptop. Can you please share the tutorial for that. Ranjit Singh That laptop doesn't have a m.2 slot so to add a second drive you'll need to replace the DVD drive. My video showing how is here. ruclips.net/video/VytfZn2hnh8/видео.html
This is a well put together instructional video that helped me get to the hard drive, which I surely would have broken something without it. Thanks for the detail and time you took to put this together.
My dumb luck! Looking to do an upgrade to RAM on THE SAME MACHINE (!) and having seen this will replace the drive too. Great explanation. Saves me all the trouble of the screw location etc. Two thumbs up.

Hey Michael. Thank you so much for all this information. I have learn here so much, because of the different topics you have covered. I do appreciate, now I feel confident I can do it my self. God Bless you man
Looked fairly intimidating to open when I was about to do it, but after watching your video I had it done within minutes. I do miss the days when every laptop was easier to upgrade though; when removing the HDD was just a case of removing a couple screws. Even the weird non-standard HDD connector HP have used seems to have been in an effort to dissuade the casual consumer from upgrading it if they get that far.
Great Video - very informative. One suggestion I would add is to place a towel or thick cloth underneath the laptop when turned over to protect the surface. If the unit was put on its back, and say a screw/foreign object had been accidently left underneath, this would certainly leave a mark or scratch. This once happened to me, but it will now not happen again!
To me that seems redundant. All you'd be doing is replacing one surface with another that could also have some piece of debris on it that would cause a scratch. I've been using this table for 10 years and it shows. The table is very scarred up and looks awful but it is not hard enough to leave a scratch on any laptop. As for debris being left behind and causing a scratch I make it a point to wipe off the table on a regular basis.
excellent tutorial. only feedback i would give is to verify operation prior to screwing the laptop back together. just in case you have to go back in and make another adjustment. you never know
Awesome! I need a video about how to repair the same computer when it is not turning on. When you try to start it, it runs for some seconds and cut. The fun is running but it does not boot.
Very Good Video. Thanks. If a person don't have a plastic wedger, I used a top from a Bic Pen and ran around excellent. Listen for "pop-pop" clamp noises as you do it, your not cracking it(sounds like it).. Keep Bic pen lid flat as you trim around. Worked for me.👍 Question. My Battery(BP02XL) has a "pillow" looking design on each side instead of a flat surface. Has an intendation in the middle separating them. Normal?
thanks for this video. I have hp 17 3rd gen m7 pavilion. saw a refurbished Lenovo zeon 1st gen on sale , would you suggest upgrade laptop or grab the refurbish Lenovo desktop?
I need a lot more information to answer that question. what are you planning on using the computer for? Do you need a laptop specifically or with a desktop work fine for you? What's the price of a Lenovo desktop?
18:57 Tip: If you are running your drives on AHCI mode you can hotplug them without shutting down your computer and they will work fine. Almost all sata drives support this. But be careful while plugging the power connector and hold the drive tight
Hi Michael, Great video . Very informative and i enjoyed watching this. Could you pls comment on hp 14-bf125tx about the SSD upgrade. Are the steps same ? and removing the HDD will void warranty
@@argiodsilvertongue3589 It's quite devious really. Because when the components on a laptop are so hard to access, it will gradually accumulate dust and fail before its time. The casual consumer will never open it to clear it out, and will probably chuck it as soon as problems occur. Cha ching.
This is simple to work on. Try doing this to a Macbook Air. The case uses proprietary screw heads that are not even included in a typical technician's kit, the RAM is soldered to the board, and the hard drive uses a proprietary socket, requiring you to special order a custom adapter to upgrade.
Hi. Thanks for your video. I come back to say your advice of buying the ssd + the adapter has worked great in my HP 15 laptop (HP 15-DA0073M specifically)!

Yes I paid £399 UK pounds on a HP 17-ak007na 17.3 inch laptop and what I've found out was why it kept running slow its because HP fitted a crappy 5400rpm Toshiba 1TB hard drive until I fitted a decent Samsung 1TB ssd and it solved the problem.
Micheal. so for instance, if u're using a personal laptop and you wanted to change/upgrade the hard drive, in this case you need to do the Cloning first, that is, transfer the data into the solid state drive before you can dismantle your computer right? Thank you.
Hi Michael... Thanks for the video. My model is 15-au620tx. Can I replace the CD-ROM with an SSD and use both SSD and HDD? Is it compatible? Please suggest me.
You can look that up yourself. Just do a search for the model number and the words service manual on Google and you'll find an HP page where you can download the service manual.
can you please check this model if it supports this SSD or not? Model: Hp pavilion 15 Au003tx, The service manual for my product and yours too says that it supports sata 3 m.2 SSD, But the ssd you have used is not m.2 i guess , Will this cause a problem ? Please reply , Thanks
WOW !! Great video !! Many thanks !!! Think I'm gonna do this to my HP that is only 4 months old. The hard drive took a dump....AND I'm NOT SENDING IT BACK TO HP. Great video and I gotta get a hard drive dock...Thaanks again !!!
tootallmaninflorida Absolutely replace it with a SSD but don't pass up a essentially free hard drive replacement. You can take it and put it into another computer or into a external enclosure and use it as an external hard drive.
Your voice is very ASMR and calming to situations I cannot understand. Thank you for your informative video and honesty of HP. I have gone with them for years; but, I have moved on to ASUS for the reason of they use SSDs for their Laptops and they aren't as bad as they used to be. Lovely editing and can see you made a good effort towards your videos. A subscribe and like from me. Ohh and also comment.
Am curious as to why you chose not to use an M.2 NVME TLC SSD instead of a lowly 2.5" SATA SSD. The Maintenence & Service guide states the M.2 SSD products are supported. Was it a customer preference or budget constraint?
This particular model doesn't have an m.2 slot. Other similar models do have the slot. You really just have to look at the service manual for your particular model and or look inside for an m.2 slot. The other thing to check is whether or not if it has an m.2 slot that that slot supports nvme or just SATA.
Thank you very much for your excellent video. I have a very similar laptop (no touch screen) which is now finding software upgrades a bit taxing with the hard drive running at 100% much of the time. I'm thinking of replacing the hard drive with an SSD. Some time ago, because of the poor design of the USB ports, I attempted to insert a USB plug upside down resulting in two of the USB ports ceasing to work. I now run a remote powered USB hub from the remaining port. It occurs to me that, if I am opening up the laptop to exchange the hard drive, I might be able to do something about the inoperative USB ports at the same time but I do not have a clue about how to go about it. Can you give me any guidance??
Check the service manual to see of the broken port is on a board separate from the motherboard. It may be cheap. You can get the manual from the hp support site and it will have the part number you need to search for on Amazon and eBay.
Guide worked well. I had a hard time getting the DVD-drive screw out, I got it loose, and to get the screw out I needed to turn the laptop over and tap on it a little and then the screw came out.
tantaluss68 This was a brand new computer. The start up time and overall speed of the computer was consistent with any computer with a hard drive as the C drive.
Great video. When the drive is cloned, will it also copy the D drive containing restore software? Also, what are your thoughts on using a drive cloner like Startech?
When you clone the whole drive it does also get the restore partition. I haven't used a drive cloner before. If you don't know what we're referring to do a google search for startech drive cloner. It's a piece of hardware that lets you connect two drives and make a copy.
Thanks for the tutorial, can you tell us what's the name of adapter that link the hard Drive from Sata to MotherBoard?? i did check all your links but none of them is for the adapter i think mine is broken and i need to buy one PLEASE
To connect a SATA drive to a motherboard you need a Sata data cable and a SATA power cable from the power supply. If you're looking instead to connect a SATA hard drive through USB to a computer like I believe I show in the video. There is a link in the description of the video to buy one on Amazon.
Hey Michael, You have explained everything in the video very precisely. Keep the good work up man. I have one doubt. Does the laptop supports NVME SSD ? If it does then which SSD is good to buy ?
Jennifer Alexander That means that the computer doesn't see an operating system on the drive. If you replace the hard drive with solid-state drive you also need to either install Windows onto it or before you actually do the replacement, clone the data from the hard drive to the solid state drive.
Hi michael love your vids they are so easy to understand. What i would like to know if you can help is how do i upgrade my processor in my laptop. The reason i ask is because some of them seem to have a slightly different fitting like the one corner of the processor has some of the tiny pins missing if you know what i'm on about. How would i know what processor i need because of the different fittings and how far i could upgrade it too best regards chris in the uk.
On most newer laptops the processor is soldered to the motherboard and is not upgradable. If you happen to have one that is in a socket it probably can be. What do you do there is do a search for the model number of the computer and the words CPU upgrade. You should find people talking about what upgrades they've done.
Michael, I used a company HP laptop in the past and I connected the two HDMI monitors (external only). One port is on the body and the second is through an adapter, c-USB. When I moved into a new HP 15-dy1731ms, it does see the second HDMI monitor. Am I doing something wrong, or is it the new laptop issue? pS. Just to be safe, I purchased the thrid HP Pavilion 15-cs3073cf and the same problem occurred.
whenever you connect one of those USB to HDMI adapters you also have to install drivers for the adapter to get it to work. Go look in device manager and see about installing the driver. You can also do a search for the model number of the adapter and the word drivers and you should find a driver installation program.
Hey I was hoping to get some advice. My hard drive seems to be failing as the laptop wont properly boot anymore and gets stuck in a boot up loop. Already tried repair and did checkdisk. I was wondering if I was to clone the data off that drive to a new one it wouldn't harm the new drive in anyway right? Thanks
Cloning the data from a failing drive to a new drive will not damage the new drive. If the drive is failing the likelihood of the clone being successful is pretty low. If it fails the thing to do is put the new solid-state drive in the computer, install Windows 10 onto it and then connect the failing drive to copy the data.
What size screwdriver are you using? I have a Pavilion X360, 15 inch. The bottom is different from this one, and the screws are SUPER TINY. So far, I have figured out it needs either a Philips size 000 or 0000 model. . It is INSANE that some engineer used these ridiculously tiny screws. I have a Chinese screwdriver with several tiny bits. Even the smallest Philips bit is too large for these microscopic screws.
There's a link in the description of the video to a set of screwdrivers that I use. On your computer you might want to take a picture of the screw head with your camera so you can zoom in and see what it actually is. It may not be a standard phillips screw sometimes they are hex screws. The screwdriver set I mentioned in the description should have drivers for it.
I have an HP Notebook with a Hard Drive that has a partition formatted for FAT32 and another Windows Partition formatted for NTFS. I am really having a hard time cloning the drive over to a SSD as I keep getting errors saying basically like "incompatible formats between the source and destination drive". Have never had this problem before and have run out of ideas. I was able to create a Windows disk image of the source drive but don't seem able to make the computer boot to the Windows system repair disk despite having changed the BIOS to boot to the CD drive. Got any ideas?
btw the WD/Acronis cloning software I use shuts down windows and then boots to its own OS. Also I find it will function as long as there is a WD drive on the system; not necessarily the source or the destination drive.
Hi! Many thanks for video! I can't find link for downloading of service manual. It is disappeared from official hp site. Could you please give me this link or file for downloading?
I have a Hp Pavilion 15-ow1063wn with a 128 GB SSD and a 1 TB SATA HDD drives. I like to see how to upgrade the 128 GB SSD because mine is too small and I like to know how to upgrade it to a bigger one. Maby a 500GB SSD. Can I upgrade my one cooling fan to a two cooling fan?
Hello sir, on 12/12/2020 my brother has given me the laptop of this company HP Pavilion Notebook 15-bc5xxx, I installed adobe creative cloud in it, then there are issues like this amt.dll error amazon and hp believe Is that it is designed for gaming and high configuration only.
Thanks a lot Michael Cooper you have saved me a lot time +money, i searched for weeks on whether this model support m.2 drive +hdd or not, even hp forums could not help much. now i have realized hdd + ssd is not for this model and the best way is just using ssd and throw 1tb to extenal hdd case.

Great video i never knew about those cd drive adaptors for HDDs... I gota buy one plus an SSD for my laptop.
Awesome video! Very informative and detailed.
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!! Couldn't figure out how to get the access panel off. That was a tough nut to crack!
excellent tutorial. only feedback i would give is to verify operation prior to screwing the laptop back together. just in case you have to go back in and make another adjustment. you never know
Awesome! I need a video about how to repair the same computer when it is not turning on. When you try to start it, it runs for some seconds and cut. The fun is running but it does not boot.
That's called no post no video. Do some Google searches for that and you should find troubleshooting steps
Normal?
you did a wonderful step by step explanation. You my friend, are awesome!
Thanks for the help, the swap went flawlessly.
thanks for this video.
Very well demonstrated
Need the name of cloning the drive.
Awesome video Michael. You bailed me out Sir. Thank you very much.
Hi Michael, great video. Why did you need the adapter?
Thank you Michael ... I'm in pursuit of your shared knowledge, and usefulness now.
Excellent video. I learned a lot! Must replace my HDD and I will use a SSD. Should I upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10?
Excellent - The optical drive HDD/SSD caddy was a completely new concept to me. Thanks.
How do you know which solid state drive to buy for your laptop?
Mine is an HP
My Toshiba C55 was very easy to do, had removable covers on the memory and hard drive.
18:57 Tip: If you are running your drives on AHCI mode you can hotplug them without shutting down your computer and they will work fine. Almost all sata drives support this. But be careful while plugging the power connector and hold the drive tight
That's mostly true but not always. It's worth a try. If they aren't recognized a system reboot will get them showing up.
I would still would like to use to the disk drive as a external
Hi Michael, Great video . Very informative and i enjoyed watching this. Could you pls comment on hp 14-bf125tx about the SSD upgrade. Are the steps same ? and removing the HDD will void warranty
I agree. I only do upgrades or adjustments that only when the computer's warranty has expired.
Thanks for the tutorial. The a-holes at HP once again build a mediocre product and make it difficult to do any work on it.
@@argiodsilvertongue3589
It's quite devious really.
Can the same procedure be done for an HP pavilion 15-aw003la?
Hi. Thanks for your video. I come back to say your advice of buying the ssd + the adapter has worked great in my HP 15 laptop (HP 15-DA0073M specifically)!
Very very useful and informational video with easily understandable. Thank you for making this type of informational video.
Nice tutorial, i'm using HP 15-au103TX(Malaysia) and the speed difference when the time i'm using HDD.
Thanks bro =D
Mohamad Shahrizal salam bro. Ak gne same model mcm ko... Kau da upgrade ke ram dan ssd? Ak skrg gne ram 4gb je lag la. Pastu hdd 1 tera slow betul. Ko psg sendiri ke?
mrlongshen 2016 bli and pasang sndri jer.... tapi kalo ssd tu x tau cmner nk transfer windows better bli SSD kt kdai and bwak laptop mnx diorang pindah windows pastu kalau nk sdap lgi add lgi 4gb ram mcm aku, aku ltak 8gb tros so total 12gb ram
Mohamad Shahrizal bole bg contact kau tak? Nnt bole sembang sembang sikit. Whatapps ke, telegram ke, fb ke? Aku cadang mcm kau jugak. Nak pasang 8gb lg sebelah. Jadi total 12gb.. Tapi aku ada terbaca 12gb tak balance. Oh pasal ssd tu bole clone kan..
mrlongshen 2016 FB search je nme aku tu.... 😁
Ada banyak sgt nama. Gambar apa? Huhu
Very good and useful information.. Learnt that cloning of hard disk can be done .. thanks for the information..
Micheal. so for instance, if u're using a personal laptop and you wanted to change/upgrade the hard drive, in this case you need to do the Cloning first, that is, transfer the data into the solid state drive before you can dismantle your computer right? Thank you.
You can do it before you take it apart.
Michael Cooper Thank you Champ..
Excellent video, this helped me a tonne thanks Michael. Instant subscription from me 👍🏾
I have done the same. I realy want to se whats next , when starting the computer, booting and innstaling the operativ system.
Great video and I gotta get a hard drive dock...Thaanks again !!!
tootallmaninflorida If the hard drive is failing a diagnostic test you can send the drive back to HP for just a replacement of the drive.
Would rather change it to SSD and avoid poblems later on
tootallmaninflorida Absolutely replace it with a SSD but don't pass up a essentially free hard drive replacement. You can take it and put it into another computer or into a external enclosure and use it as an external hard drive.
Thanks, I'll do that
Ayos yan sir, salamat sa dagdag kaalaman yung laptop ko try ko din upgarde.
Walang anuman
Brilliant video. Clear and concise information
I hope the tool set is still what you’d suggest... Amazon pulls up an updated set? At least its lifetime warranties... thx
Yes they've gone through several iterations. The one they currently have on Amazon is very good.
Guide worked well. I had a hard time getting the DVD-drive screw out, I got it loose, and to get the screw out I needed to turn the laptop over and tap on it a little and then the screw came out.
did you do a system cleaning or some way to know that other processes aren't slowing down the start up?
tantaluss68 This was a brand new computer.
Thanks a lot for this video with clear instructions. Thanks
Hey Michael,
You have explained everything in the video very precisely. Keep the good work up man.
I have one doubt.
Does the laptop supports NVME SSD ? If it does then which SSD is good to buy ?
This one didn't but newer models are more likely to. If nvme is there its better to use.
@@MichaelTheComputerGuy Thanks for quick reply. 🙂
its very usefull and informative the way you talk, explain thanks bro
Great video. Learned alot. Not tech savy. My computer keeps saying to install an operating system on the hard disk. What does that mean? Thanks.
Can you tell me which would be better crucial or samsung ? Same laptop model as in this video
Brand does not matter
i have the HP 15-ba079dx I am looking at replacing the old HDD with the SSD Thanks for any input
Could you please give me this link or file for downloading?
nice & neat explanation, easy to follow instruction.
Great VDO, thanks doing VDO.
I have a hp 15f125wm with a celeron n2940 (1.83ghz) would this work for me?
Thank you. You are the best at this.
Great video. Well planned out and presented. Thanks
You can upgrade the ssd by cloning the data to a larger capacity ssd just as you see in this video. Adding a 2nd cooler is probably not possible.
