I'm glad this video was done on a vehicle that's not brand new. Because it shows all the issues with rusty parts
+Rolando Crisostomo Thanks for checking us out!
I have a 2005 acura tl and I used this entire video to help me put new emergency parking brakes on my driver side rear. (exact same process) Thank you so much lady, I consider my a proud halfway mechanic.... 🙏🏿🙏🏿👍🏿👍🏿

Hey, 2 thumbs up to you guys for working on a real rusted out Honda. Because that is exactly what I am looking at! And just a few months ago my mechanic said my brakes were just fine! I am replacing everything down there, rotors, pads, e-brakes, etc. Thanks for the real videos.
Always GREAT to see these Element videos ! My 2003 has 267000 miles on her. My e brake is only on one side I think, and it’s never been replaced, but now it’s time.
Thanks for ALL your Element videos and keep ‘em coming !
this gal is wonder woman! i have been doing brakes a long time and learned from ASE mechanics. she knows tricks and her tips are something learned from years of experience. i just wanna know where the bent needle nose come from. never seen these! just an awsome video!
Thank you for posting this! Seriously saved my sanity working on my E. ❤
Nice clear instructions and pictures. Thank you!
Thanks for making this video. Between this vid, one other vid, and help from my friends I got the shoes and hardware changed out on my E last night.
5:15 The spider just chilling there during all seasons
I wrapped a ziptie to that annoying spring clip. then cut it off once the pin was in place.
Love the video! Thank you, Sue form 1A Auto!
+Keith D Thanks for checking us out! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
Real good video. Very helpful. Thanks. Reminder to all, break in the new ebrake shoes, by riding the ebrake on and off at about 25. mph.
Nice job
would you loosen the cable if it is tight at the actual e brake before doing the job then after complete tighten it and adjust them both together?
And great detail. No wonder my mechanics said the e-brakes were fine. They just did not want to deal
When does the rear backing plate need to be replaced? Thanks!
It should never need to be replaced.
Unless it rusts so bad it loses its structural integrity.
When you do the wheel bearing is the time to do it since the hub has to be pulled to replace it. I just did mine and it’s not a hard job it just takes forever with all the rust.
A hammer blow with such force transfers to the bearing and may damage it. Just like hitting nuts or bolts when tightening a wheel.
My mechanic is doing mine on my 2008 sc element tomorrow as well as rotors and calipers, pads. Was wondering why he did not see them were worn out till after he started now i know I use then every day in my sloped driveway . My dust covers are gone would this be a problem
I have an 05 Element mine were rusty and bent. I cut and grinder them off 3 years ago. Never replaced them.
Why am I taking the caliper off of the bracket? Can't it flip up if I need to compress it?
Why would I hit the rotor on the braking surface with a metal hammer? Won't that damage it? I thought there are bolt holes to remove the rotor if it is stuck
I cringed at that, but then the rotor got replaced. Yeah it would have been better to show how to use screws to get it off.
Sue husband must be real proud of her bet she works on his car too 😅
Also seriously hope you lubed those slide pins and the pad shims.....
These vids will help get the job done, but I enjoy watching them and testing to myself the important parts that did not survive the editing process.
A lot of drag on that. It should be tightened to contact then backed off. There is actually 2 adjustment procedures, using the actual handbrake adjustment inside.
Surprised anyone would need to replace those unless they drove with it on, a cable adjustment is usually sufficient
That's the oldest car I've seen in a 1A video yet!
+CTSCAPER We try to have a variety of cars to better help all of our customers.
Is it just me or does this job on almost any car seem way more involved than it should be? I can change out disc pads in a fraction of the time it takes to mess with these things :-P Thanks for the video!
Please re shoot this with much tighter close-ups of the springs installation.
+Bruce Wagenberg Thanks for the tip! We'll pass this info along to our production team.
Since when is an impact driver "pneumatic"???
This vehicle has many more issues than parking brake shoes. What a rust bucket, poor little Element!
Is it same for prelude 4g?
+DanlosSK This video may help you get a general idea of how to do this, but we don't have a video for your vehicle. Thanks for checking us out! 1AAuto.com
Thanks so much this job is not for me, this one is for the mechanic lol
+drumskas Thanks for the feedback!
I watched your video and doing everything the same everything looks good but I cannot get the rotor on. The top part of the shoes keep the rotor from coming on there’s enough room on the bottom but it looks like the top shoes are out just a little bit too much and I noticed that they both will not rest on the pin at the top at the same time.
I had the same problem. I ended up filing down the connecting rod (metal spacer bar at the top).
This part comes from the original brakes and was rusted. I filed down the overall length at both ends and made the notches deeper. This worked although is was very tight installing the rotor. Once the rotor was seated it fit properly.
I have the same problem. How did you get it fixed?
@@joehidalgo1246the flat bar doesn't come with new emergency brake and screws pieces I just use a lot of grease and WD-40 to make it fit between the two brakes
Yup. File if you need to. They all don't match up.
Remember...Personally, I sparingly touch the flat bar contact points with grease.
Also, unlike the vid...I would first check the actual parking brake tension adjustment in the vehicle.
Make sure you are starting from a good cable tension foundation.
The first link of the video, is a part from a different car
+oconel10dark Thanks for the tip! We'll pass this info along to our production team.
19:45 Yes, that backing plate should really be replaced now.
Not unless it's rusted so bad it loses its structural integrity.
3:36 The way the rear rotor is angled and still not coming off means the parking brake was still applied lol...
Actually, not.
I can not recall the times they have been slightly snug as this.
Things get rusty around the hub.
Put it back together clean, with ample never-sieze, and the next time you do your disc pads...remove the rotor for craps and giggles. You will see it was not the parking brake.
Way to much drag on that. When you adjust you should have contact and then adjust until there is no drag at all. Good job on messing that up lol.
Hopefully the shoes will center enough to eliminate that.
ese auto esta podrido por la sal que usan en las carreteras
Lol no.
woman working on car= broken
Premise: grateful for the videos. However; I have never understood why so many of your instructional vids have steps omitted. Clearly steps where average people will be left wondering: Now what do I do?
