And to make a long story shortish: I will probably keep both units, now, and play with which is best for what on my acoustic/electric pedalboard for solo gigs.
I love the UI on this thing. Seeing where you are set with the other effects lets you get a really good idea of what you are looking for. This peice of gear is so well thought out. All of what you mostly need and sounds great. But the control layout is what sells it for me. MIDI would have been a HUGE bonus to quick-access the presets but thats a minor gripe.
@@60CycleHumcast True but I'd get this thing as like "extra dsp" or with an external midi to better access the presets rather than bank up/down. My HX Stomp XL is going nowhere and I'm still planning on the HX One to accompany it but this lil thing would make a fine addition as like a 3rd channel

I think the POD Express looks great. The red plastic makes it look like a beginner device. But I think experienced and more advanced players will buy them too. They can fill many needs.
Experienced players will develop a need for more individual controls for each of the effects, especially modulation. Plus the individual effects are not easily accessible, you cannot turn them on with one click. If you want that specific phaser setting you will have to scroll through the entire modulation menu, you cannot simply turn it off and keep it idle on your favorite settings waiting to be turned back on again like a regular pedal. That would annoy me within a few days. Though I must say it is a great pedal, but definitely for beginners

Pod Express has so much going for it. Thanks for running through all the fx options on the Princeton/Clean amp, gives an idea of the essential tones. You're the first one who showed off the looper of any demo I've watched, so simple. Great it has a noisegate too. Bass version sounds fun too. Think I'm getting one of these.
I thought the same for few minutes but probably I’ll stick to my IR-2 as it has an effect loop and I’m already ampless with that one. I may buy one of this pod for my gf as she has a bass and I was waiting for a solution like this for bass
I'm really impressed. The amp models and OD/Dist sounds are useable, and the effects all sound great, especially the delays and reverbs. Add the looper and USB recording capability, and it's a no-brainer at that price.
Seem to be what made line6 so successful with the OG pod, simple user interface, easy to navigate to get great tones without getting lost in upon lists in menu options, but if you are into deeper edits, you can easily do that on a phone or tablet. Great competitive product to boss and zoom, from a the ones who brought amp modeling to the masses. I want one for song writing ideas on my digital 4track. Simple and quick for getting ideas down and saved when inspiration hits…
The major compromise for me might be the preset nature of the signal chain. I like to put my modulation effects after my reverbs sometimes. Maybe this can be altered by doing a deeper dive into the unit. Otherwise this unit seems to be a massive bang for the Buck. This and a computer and you could be getting started with some serious writing and recording. Having a headphone output makes this a perfect sofa noodling device.

I didn't get a sense from your demo how responsive the amps are to your playing dynamics. Thanks for showing what these can do!

@@ItsaCatsLife ah, well that price hike to get it over the pond does put a damper on things… unfortunately, such is the case with a lot of music gear that’s shipped there. I paid around $350 USD to have a $180 EQD pedal shipped back to the States a couple years ago… pretty wild that there’s that much of a hike!
The sounds are pretty great! I think I myself am still going to go with an HX Stomp...BUT, this would be KILLER for beginners! These might snag me "Coolest Heckin' Uncle" awards with my nephews... KIDS THESE DAYS! THEY'VE GOT IT SO GOOD WITH ALL THEIR NEW-FANGLED GEAR, BACK IN MY DAY, I'D HAVE TO WALK MY WASHBURN BASS GUITAR AND CRATE PRACTICE AMP TO SCHOOL EACH DAY AND TWICE ON SUNDAYS, UPHILL BOTH WAYS, 50 MILES IN THE SNOW AND HEAT AT THE SAME TIME and then I get shoved aside by someone who had to schlep a Peavey T-40 bass, an Ampeg SVT and Ampeg 8x10 cabinet...
Just a quick tip to help you in your bass playing journey: When playing with fingers, pull through the string that you want to play and land on the next string rather than pulling at an angle and away. It's easier to control your notes, mute properly, develop speed, etc... It'll change your life. Best of luck!
I just did today. I already have a POD Go, and other similar toys, so why did I by this? Mainly because it is a very easy-to-use desktop guitar processor - just plug in, get a tone, and record very quickly. No edit menus, intuitive layout, and so small it just fits on my desk.
Great deno! I like the use of the LEDs around the central selector to reflect the value being chosen for the effects. I see there is a jack for an expression pedal or two additional footswitches, and that it can run from 3 AA batteries. I'll be watching for a deeper dive into all the options (you mentioned being able to select different cabinets), but it's impressive how much you can do directly with the controls.
I was happy to see a midrange control , I was trying to find the catch , but it even has a noise gate , tuner, expression pedal input . And a somewhat gigable patch change format. The boss ir-2 is $199 with only 2 memory banks and no effects. All anyone really needs is a good clean, a good AC/DC dirt, and boosted Marshall tone for metal . With volume boost for solos. I think everyone should have one of these in their guitar case with some created tones ready to go.
This looks solid! I keep two old Zoom G1on units around just for quick headphone practice etc. It’s basically one of these but older and with drum beats that sync to the looper. As a zoom Multistomp user I’m totally comfortable with the sounds, I’ve hacked it to have exactly what I need, and for a headphone practice setup it checks all the boxes and I never go on tour without one.
So solid for the price. These are tones that are already battle tested and people use, and this is so cheap and compact. If you only need one or two sounds, or just want an amp sim with spring verb to run your other pedals into or 100 other uses - this thing is so great at $179, amazing deal.
Great demo, man! I usually recommend just a guitar/amp for beginners - otherwise, they spend more time twisting knobs that learning guitar.... just my 2 cents that no-one asked for! LOL! Keep up the great work!!
"that's stupid" but thanks for going there Sir - a great demo. i'm a huge fan of the original POD which basically did what youtube peeps like yourself now do. the bass box excursion was tremendous too. POD's have always been a great place to start
Hopefully they'll get an editor software update made soon, or the "POD Express Deluxe" with 10 band EQ/Compressor/Wah/Filter/Dynamic options, MIDI, effects send/return, and metal casing. I don't know why these companies don't do this in the first place!! Can't beat the price, though!! The POD Bass is my second purchase already!!
This is finally a step in the right direction.i wasnt a fan of the hx one.this is pretty neat.put a ir loader after and run it front of house.instant travel rig.might catch one these soon
Great demo as always! Smart product development by Line 6...'not for me, not my cup 'o tea but I can see a lot of young players using this. You can't beat the price, that's for sure. Nice!
Goddam this is good... Like a simpler, more holistic version of the HX One. For less than $200, you couldn't find better value if you tried. Throw one in your pocket and take it everywhere you go!
Excellent review. I feel I know a lot about a new device I would like to have, in place of the Matribox I recently bought, to replace the Behringer XVamp I've had for years. If only I had a dollar for every hour I watch videos about equipment, I'd buy one more device.
I know you’re not a bass player but I really appreciate you demoing the bass pedal. Really gave me a good idea of what it sounds like. Day 1 you have the most comprehensive bass pedal demo so far. I know you didn’t do a deep dive but it was good enough to know I may want this. Thank you and great videos as always. Also if possible, could you please play some more Aquabats style surf music?
These are great compact practice pedals, or if you don't need to be changing effects in a performance, but if you need on-the-fly effect changes with the tap of the foot, go the Boss ME series.
Wow. It's such an obvious and simple design that mimics multi-FX amps from manufactures, it was bound to happen and I am happy for it. I can see Blaskstar doing this as well (who knows, maybe they already have!, I am behind, a bit this year)... but I really like these.
Definately one of the better deals out there for all it can do. I would have loved having one of those when I began my guitar playing journey. I have a small studio set-up running a stereo rig and more pedals than I will ever need already though, but if wanted to simplify this would be a no-brainer for sure.
I need it to be brain shaped as in Musk’s Nuralink so whatever I am thinking comes out of the amp! I wonder how much that is gonna cost though. Probably not budget friendly!
That's a good price point for this little thing! Great for practice and recording I would bet. Amp and cap sim, presets...yeah, this is gonna sell like PODcakes! 😂
I might have to grab this in a couple of years when I go off to college, tidy little setup with a headphone jack so the roommate doesn’t get annoyed. 🎸 Edit: Built in looper along with a dozen effects is wild too

I really like the interface and ease of use of the POD express, as well as the small form factor. However, it doesn’t appear to play well with others, because of the lack of an effect loop and midi. I can only see fairly limited usability, such as a (headphone) practice tool on the road, or a ‘special effect’ unit on a pedalboard. But the competition is pretty tough in both areas.

Thanks! I’m trying!
I preordered immediately. Thank you 🙏🏾
I just did today. I already have a POD Go, and other similar toys, so why did I by this? Mainly because it is a very easy-to-use desktop guitar processor - just plug in, get a tone, and record very quickly. No edit menus, intuitive layout, and so small it just fits on my desk.
@@davelanciani-dimaensionx "no edit menus" is what sold me lol
Timestamp for Spring Reverb: 3:49.
An interesting trip into the thousands of partial riffs in 60 Cycle Hum's mind...and great demonstration!
I think everyone should have one of these in their guitar case with some created tones ready to go.
the best initial review of this product!
This looks solid! I keep two old Zoom G1on units around just for quick headphone practice etc. It’s basically one of these but older and with drum beats that sync to the looper. As a zoom Multistomp user I’m totally comfortable with the sounds, I’ve hacked it to have exactly what I need, and for a headphone practice setup it checks all the boxes and I never go on tour without one.
wow that a cool color my 1965 mustang is that color and i dont like it but man on a jazz master with matching headstock its slick
For the price it is really a great little tool for home
"that's stupid" but thanks for going there Sir - a great demo. i'm a huge fan of the original POD which basically did what youtube peeps like yourself now do. the bass box excursion was tremendous too. POD's have always been a great place to start
Great demo and showcasing of the product. Pretty much all you need these days to create music at home.
Fun demo Ryan. I ordered one, thanks.
the color match is really cool!
Built in gate is great.
It's a great tool to start... or be a "cheap" backup to my Helix Floor. What a great litlle thing, not too expensive...
Nice!
They’re going to sell a ton of those things.
Really well priced.
Yep!
Goddam this is good... Like a simpler, more holistic version of the HX One. For less than $200, you couldn't find better value if you tried. Throw one in your pocket and take it everywhere you go!
Most clever interface that I have ever seen!
Excellent review. I feel I know a lot about a new device I would like to have, in place of the Matribox I recently bought, to replace the Behringer XVamp I've had for years. If only I had a dollar for every hour I watch videos about equipment, I'd buy one more device.
That guild polara is so similar to my used DeArmond LP junior. Mine was £130 not £700!
Pretty cool pedal!
Those 90s DeArmonds are a bunch of fun but the new guilds are better built.
This video made me smile. Fun.
Thats a very clean natural sounding pedal!!
These are great compact practice pedals, or if you don't need to be changing effects in a performance, but if you need on-the-fly effect changes with the tap of the foot, go the Boss ME series.
He said "matchy matchy coincidence" 😂
Ryan is like the Ned Flanders of guitar
"Stupid sexy Flanders..."
Not at all.
@@USAJ31not at all ?
@@Sandman60077 Matchy Matchy Coincidence sounds like a cool band name.
I love the Line 6 amps on Helix and they have chosen well for this !
I really enjoy your review style. Positive and fun and you play well. Subscribed. Great stuff.
3minutes and 30 seconds in and I’m sold
I'm into it. Love the simplicity
The 5150 sims within guitar processors don’t sound weirdly fizzy anymore, which is a good development.
Interesting outlook like a multimeter, I like it
Wow Echo and the Bunnymen awesome!
This thing needed to be a little more "bean-shaped" for me to be interested
I need it to be brain shaped as in Musk’s Nuralink so whatever I am thinking comes out of the amp! I wonder how much that is gonna cost though. Probably not budget friendly!
The shape is a bit out of character for line 6 which is a bit of a disappointment..
For me I would've preferred a pyramid so I could feel the engineering progress from then to now
@@andyzangetsu3745when I heard about the new pod, I'll be honest, I was hoping for a floating orb
Then you could flick it
That's a good price point for this little thing! Great for practice and recording I would bet. Amp and cap sim, presets...yeah, this is gonna sell like PODcakes! 😂
How fun if you could just build that into a guitar and you could sit at the bar drinking your jack while jamming the tunes :)
Well for you non luthiers you could just duct tape it. Red green taught us it’s the handyman’s secret weapon.
ok.. that wouldn't look ghetto..lol@@fuckgoogle8661
The comments are already gold!
I still have a PODXT Live that I just use for FX and volume pedal. Not a fan of L6 amps and distortion, but their FX are blissful.
I might have to grab this in a couple of years when I go off to college, tidy little setup with a headphone jack so the roommate doesn’t get annoyed. 🎸
Edit: Built in looper along with a dozen effects is wild too
I went to college many years ago. I had little spare time for the guitar. Maybe you will be a music major.
@@daniellarson3068I hated having free time between classes, so a music theory or 2, voice, 3 or 4 keys/piano, a guitar or two (wanted to take the classical since I play finger style but timing wise I couldn’t swing it, had to take the important classes) & 3 semesters of Cuban/Brazilian drumming myself. It was a good way to breakup the rest of my day but my classes started at 7/8ish every morning and never ended before 9pm 4 days a week I needed to do other things.
@@daniellarson3068 That would be awesome, currently looking at mechanical engineering but music is definitely my passion.
@@deanfritsch3363they music classes are usually low credit and you might, might mind you not have to buy anything either so they usually are the cheapest thing you can take and they really break up the day. It helps a lot with everything else, at least for me and might not be homework, lest likely to feel like work, and always the last thing I did and always passed. Plus girls. Never took a college course that had more women on average than music classes. Always nice.
@@deanfritsch3363Maybe you can do both. Tom Scholz of the band Boston has a degree in mechanical engineering from MIT. I'm just sayin' your mechanical engineering courses will probably take up the lion's share of your time and music may have to take a backseat. Brian May did the reverse. When Queen slowed down, he got a PhD in Astrophysics.
Great pedal and good demo! I have always liked Line 6! Thanks!
