I called bass pro and garmin customer service and the main difference that makes up the price is preloads maps are different.. the higher price is for navaonics + maps installed already on it ..
I ordered one from Bass Pro today, before I saw this video. I honestly think the problem here is that these units CAN sell for WAY cheaper than they do.
I'd give Garmin a call like I did. There are differences other than the transducers. The GPS maps are different. The GT56 transducer is compatible with the units that are on sale, but a software update may be needed.
Thanks, but that’s the first I’ve heard of any maps being different, and I’d be skeptical that’s true. Garmin’s website also makes no mention of any different stock mapping options for the 106sv.
@@InstinctBassin Their website isn't the greatest but their tech support was great. I believe the difference in mapping is Navionics vs LakeVu. Navionics is the new system and it is subscription based to handle updates.
Some of that is true, but it has nothing to do with the actual unit. Any echomap unit will run the subscription based Navionics maps they are taking about. But none of them actually come with that subscription as far as I can tell. All come with the LakeVu and Blue G3 maps stock.
I was on the market to upgrade my Hummingbird Onix and was thinking of going with a Solix but after seeing the price of this Garmin unit ... I pulled the trigger on the 106SV without doing lots of research like I normally do. Is this line of Garmin units basically the same as the Hummingbird Solix line??
The specs shown for the transducers does not match what Garmin advertise and the main difference is the GT56 is 500W vs the GT54 350W on sidevu/clearvu, though it's more complex than that. It does not void the idea you can buy the GT54 version and get a GT56 separately for less all up.
Night and day difference upgrading to the gt56 over the 54. It is absolutely worth the upgrade. Get a 106sv with the gt56 combo (buy in the combo to save money). The sv has the mapping. Then get a 112 WITHOUT the mapping built in and network them. Save a lot of money and all features and mapping are available on both units when networked. Dont buy the Ultra 2…it is not any better showing sonar vs the original ultra units. You get a little better interface, but you will be fishing not constantly fiddling with settings anyway so don’t waste your money. Your welcome
Great video on purchasing options w/ best choices. I currently have a 126sv Ultra with a 74sv w/ GT56UHD-TM Echomap UHD. I am also considering buying for fathers day either the LVS34 & Ultra 106sv or the LVS32 & 126sv. Which do you think will be my best choice given that I have a 126sv and the 73sv? Please advise.
Since you already have a 126sv (nice!), I’d get the 106sv and LVS34 and then sell the 73sv if you no longer plan to use it. You’ll have to squint to see it after using the other two. Thanks for watching…and please use the links in the description to help out the channel. 🤙🏼
Yes. The 6 on the end means it comes with both lakes and coastal maps. A 93 or 94sv will only come with one or the other. Check out my video about what all the numbers mean if you like.
I got my echomap ultra 106sv this last December when it was on sale at bass pro for 999.99 but if you purchased it with your Bass pro credit card it took off another 200 & you earned club points which is $ in the store. I earned $42 to be exact so I got my ultra 106sv with GT54 for a total of 757.99 +tax. That's a steal of a deal!!! It would check to see if you still get extra 200 off buying it with your card. If you have one of course?
Yep great deal! So far I’ve managed to avoid the BP credit card…so far 😀. It’s a great card for buying at BP, and if you pay it off. Otherwise, it’s a pretty mediocre CC.
I have the 106 coming (tomorrow) with the 54 but I went on amazon and applied for there credit card and got 150 off the 56. I need the 56 for offshore fishing 75-300 ft. Wil be looking to sell the 54 when it gets here for couple hundred
I was just about ready to pull the trigger on a Garmin ECHOMAP UHD2 93sv 9" Touchscreen. Are there any differences between that unit and the Garmin ECHOMAP Ultra 106sv 10" Touchscreen unit that you are covering here (except the screen size of course)?
Yes but they are not as major as between the regular UHD. Screen size is the biggest difference in your case. I would personally get the 106sv for $999.
on these echomap+ units like the older 9sv ...do they still hold up does it matter if it says offshore g3 navs package and im only bass fishing inshore? what do you know about the gt51 xdcr? Will this getter done onshore... forgive me im new but found one for sale at what looks like a decent price . thanks
I don’t know much about units earlier than the Echomap UHD units. I would say if the maps say offshore, then the lake maps are going to be very generic.
Hi friend I just came across your channel, great content by the way! I have a question maybe you can help me out 2with. I recently bought and installed an Echomap UHD 74cv on my boat and took it out in the ocean a couple days ago, I was fishing for mackerel and hit a couple good spots where my buddy and I caught around 20 of them but on the screen, it didn’t show any fish at all, is it normal for that to happen, is it because it’s just bait fish so it won’t show? Another friend of mine has an older model and he also complains about that same issue. I had an old hummingbird installed previously and it detected the mackerel bait ball perfectly and beeped al well, so I kind of regret swapping it for the my new Garmin but maybe there’s some functions that I need to mess with to get it to work for me? Anyways, I hope you get to see this, you have a new subscriber
You could try increasing the gain if you’re using traditional 2d sonar, or the brightness if you’re using ClearVu. I’ve seen balls of shad all the time, so I would think mackerel would show up as well. The 74cv does have a “smaller” screen, so it may just be tough to see from that aspect. But if you look at my video where I’m “junk fishing at the Stick Marsh”, I have the camera show a bunch of fish on the 73sv. Good luck!
Do you know if I could use this in another country with a map card off Garmin as I can get this to Ireland for around 1600euro including taxes but costs 2400 if I purchase it here

It’s comparable yes, but the Solix will likely have higher resolution if I’m not mistaken….and a higher price tag.

the Garmin GT-56 offers High Chirp @ 455/800/1000khz

Yes. The 6 on the end means it comes with both lakes and coastal maps. A 93 or 94sv will only come with one or the other. Check out my video about what all the numbers mean if you like.

Sounds like a plan 🤙🏼
Very useful information. Thank you very much.
So what's the catch though? The 106sv with gt54 for 999..the 106sv without cost more and the 106sv with gt56 cost more too.
It makes sense the one with the GT-56 would cost more, just not THAT much more. I still recommend the one with the GT-54 for $999.
The 56 has 1070 khz side vu.
Thanks!

That is unless you really need the wireless networking of the uhd2
@@InstinctBassin Thank you for your quick response! I will get the 106sv for the larger screen size.

As long as there is a map card for your area, yes.
Thanks bought one with your link I'm using a forwarding service to get it here
They cancelled my order saying you can't use a freight forwarding service oh well
It appears the prices have really gone up on these units. I'm not seeing them for less than $1400
Yep, wait till Black Friday. Should be $999.
Look at the black Friday ads. $999.99. next week
@@TexasKenwhere are you seeing that price point?
@brocket96 they will be on sale at Basspro for 999 starting tomorrow.
@@InstinctBassin is this an in store only special or something? I am not seeing that advertised anywhere online.
