The major problem that many who wish to rebuild their existing structures is that which they dont currently see. mold. Those properties are a loss, restorations of existing structures is the last thing you want to do. Its storm water damage, dirty water at that, water that got into everywhere either directly or via extreme moisture, only to be left in the open for months. Mold can kill. and certainly can impair. Unfortunate. the only way forward is to erase all that remains and start a new. Its the only way to be sure of new sound structures and those built to higher standards.

Don’t justify Poetic be Stoic with a response. What was said is simply hateful, a different Avenue of getting any kind of attention possible…truly pathetic!
Meanwhile, to answer your questions somewhat… a lot will be removed by the owners, if they’re still alive. Anything under the mud, that isn’t found by cadaver dogs, will literally stay “buried.” I witnessed this after Hurricane Katrina, when I asked the question,” Why is the ground so spongey?” Everything under the ground stays there.
Above ground, sometimes volunteers help to load large containers with debris. Sometimes people are found IN the debris, still alive.
Many insurance carriers drop their clients to avoid losses, or state they don’t cover “natural disasters.”
Definitely a tragedy when people lose everything they have. Even more tragic when the shelters are too full, and they have absolutely nowhere to go. Promises for provisions to be supplied are broken. That’s where mental health issues establish themselves.
The only True power is when perceived miracles occur, and hearts are strengthened to resolve to do whatever they possibly can.

    Some geography info.
Matlacha is NOT Pine Island nor is it on Pine Island. Matlacha is zip code 33993. At the west end of Matlacha is where Little Pine Island starts. Little Pine Island is a wildlife area with no structures. Little Pine Island is also zip code 33993. Then 3 more miles west through Little Pine Island is finally Pine Island with zip code 33956.
Matlacha has about 500 homes. Pine Island has about 5,000 homes. St. James city(2000 homes) is at the south end of Pine Island and it was the next target after the surge took out the Sanibel Causeway. There have been no aerial pictures of St. James City. Nor of anywhere else on Pine Island. There are a few pictures taken from people at the north end of St. James City. Does the south end still exist? Does my house still exist? Does the concrete slab even exist? Does San Carlos Rd. still exist?

There was a woman visiting a friend? Her hosts must have thought their billion dollar home would be a really fun place to watch the show- otherwise, why the heck would they be entertaining during a hurricane? I feel horrible for those who had no where to go or no money to stay in a hotel, but those that stayed because they wanted to? They should be rescued last, in my opinion. I saw the Florida Everglades as a little girl. They no longer exist because they were "developed." The flora and fauna were removed and covered in pavement and lawns. The trees are gone. So are the coral reefs. Only debris remains now--unntil they rebuild, since they can't seem to take a hint.

When insurance companies hand out checks real quick they often get you to sign that it covers everything and you will have no more claim. Then a few weeks later you realize you had a lot more loss than what you figured on the day after the loss. Be careful what you sign in the first few weeks. Get the claim started then wait a few months to get everything documented before you settle.

My Dad grew up on Estero Island aka Fort Myers Beach. I did too for much of my childhood. We lived on Bahia Via. On the Bayside on a canal. We would walk to the beach down to the Outrigger hotel and that would be our base for a while. Ah the colored night time tavern lights of Estero Island in the mid nineties during winter! Clear stars all season. We are still without power and we can’t shower with the water at this point. We’ve been taking bottled water bowl showers and they actually do get you fully clean as long as you use soap. Ian beat the hell out of us on the fourth floor of a condominium directly off of 41. It beat us from the crack of dawn (I was wide awake) until long after night had fallen. Come 9 am we were slammed viciously. Windows blew out. Water came leaking from the floor above. Water came pouring directly out of our circuit breaker. My good friend lost his entire house and all his possessions. We were so blessed throughout the entire event. Somehow God has brought great good out of this terrible storm. Our kids have been reborn. They are so encouraged and enthusiastic I think because all the new human interaction and seeing us helping neighbors and neighbors helping us. My seven year old son said that the day after the hurricane a day with no power and no water was the best day of his life. And he meant it completely. After seeing this change I think that daily tv etc. is very extremely unhealthy for children and young adults. And for adults as well. But especially for children. They need a way OUT. The world is now darkening with threat of nuclear war and world war. But The Lord and Source of all spirits aka GOD blesses amazingly and impossibly especially in the Trial! Ian means: “GOD is Gracious” supposedly. We were praying for God’s Mercy the entire day of the storm. I love hurricanes. I love storms better than clear days most of the time. But I hate tragedy and when people die early before their time. And this storm was incredibly expensive costing even many lives. Nothing more expensive than a human soul. Nothing. A soul is worth more than the entire physical planet. One single soul. One random soul. An average soul. The world has now been filled with absolute lies which have now polluted and bound the minds of millions of unsuspecting victims. The lies of the devil are real. And when one lie fails it upholds another lie. And these lies KILL and abuse and war against mankind. These lies break hearts. And bind minds. And they do in fact KILL. The devil is an angel spirit of the air and he still has access to heaven during certain times. To accuse people and to argue with GOD. Spirits certainly and absolutely exist. I have seen spirits of all kinds. I used to practice witchcraft and I was also an addict and a drug dealer. A thief and a liar and a hypocrite I absolutely was. But I did not know about the hypocrisy until GOD opened my eyes and let me legit see clear. And The webs of lies are more complex and intricate than I ever dared imagine before I finally saw them up close. GOD foretold climate change. But truth be told it’s not merely the climate that’s changing it’s the entire planet and the whole universe itself simultaneously. The sun is storming like never before and that’s not from air pollution. And neither are earthquakes and volcanic eruptions which begin miles underground far from all atmospheric pollution. This is obvious. Any idiot should see it clear as Day. GOD foretold literally every thing that is happening now. From global viruses to “climate change” to globalization itself. He foretold everything in His Book the Bible. Israel’s return after centuries of exile in Northern Europe etc. Israel is an massive anomaly considering they are the First Country to come back to life after two thousand long years of hateful exile and persecution. Israel’s return alone is proof that GOD is real and the Book is true. Because GOD said that He would bring Israel back “to the land of their fathers” and also that He would raise up and exalt the Nation into existence “In one day” as the Prophet said. And on May 14, 1948 that Day came to pass and Israel rose again from the ashes of great and terrible evil against them. I am no better than anyone. (This is my beautiful wife’s old account before she took my name and we got married.) I have been through hell on earth. Me and my wife both have. Together. Perhaps that’s why our union our marriage RULES! We are more crazy about each other than the first date. But GOD did all this. Not me. So blessed be the Name of the Lord for His Mercy endureth forever! A warning though: to refuse God is to refuse all GOOD THINGS forever. God allows bad things to happen so that in our inevitable pain and torment we might turn back and seek His Spiritual Strength and His Love and His HELP which is priceless. More than any money can buy. For God sends us the Ultimate Gift of immortality in His Spirit His Holy Spirit. These are the nine qualities or aspects of His Holy Spirit: Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, and Self Control these are the Fruit of the Holy Spirit (The Ruach Hakodesh.) of GOD Himself. And by God I mean the Creator of all things seen and unseen. Those aspects of the Spirit can never be obtained in their fullness by any man or woman unless they seek and know GOD. There is no immortality outside of His Purpose and His Will. These mainstream political “scientists” are absolutely laughable in their sheer vanity and idiotic pride. Let them pretend to be little gods and preeminent immortals. They are NOT. They shall die. Their bodies shall die no matter what physics they implement inside their own bodies. Let them play like fools. It means nothing but that we are nearing the End. The Lord will show Himself as HE IS. For His Name is “I AM” in Hebrew “YAHVEH” or “YHVH”. And no soul can escape out of His Hand. Let us not continue in open rebellion against the Holy One! Not against the Holy God. For our God is not some idiotic cartoon old man with a beard in the sky! No! He is a Consuming FIRE 🔥 complete with Lightnings and Thunderings and Voices coming from His Throne. Surrounded by Emerald Rainbows 🌈. And as if He was made of Gems. This Spirit is the Original Spirit that all other spirits came out from. Respect Him or find hell by default. Inevitably.

Heat waves, droughts, fires and heavy rains that cause severe flooding have become more frequent in many parts of the world due to climate change, which affects the entire worldwide population.
The Earth is facing a “triple planetary crisis,” warn UN officials. Climate disruption, nature and biodiversity loss, and pollution and waste are the main areas of concern regarding the current state of the environment. This year, the Earth Day’s theme is “Invest In Our Planet,” so what would humanity's best investment for the planet be?
We need to start by cleaning up the planet. There is no place on Earth where the air and water are clean, and that's a real problem. In theory, tackling this issue should be our priority when it comes to taking action to improve the dismal state of our planet. But let’s not fool ourselves. Such a plan alone will solve nothing.
It will only help the international organizations to justify their own existence. They tick off "done" to raise as much money as they want, and that's it. If we do not improve relations between us, we will not be able to achieve the great and ambitious improvement in nature that we want and need to attain globally. We will never achieve a good result through bureaucratic, mechanical measures.
There are a lot of people sitting in their comfortable offices profiting from the environmental crisis and demanding money and respect. They keep flying from one end of the world to the other on all kinds of missions to make a lot of noise with what they are "doing" and which everyone "needs to hear" as if that alone means something is happening, but in practice we see no real progress. The Earth must also be cleansed of them, of these people who engage in useless campaigns that only cause harm because they mislead the world, leading it away from the real solution.
The cleaning of the planet should start inside out. If we do not clean the planet from within, and continue with our reckless behavior and the selfish nature of our hearts as before, nothing will change for the better. The immense sums invested in environmental initiatives should be directed to spreading an educational process aimed at improving the way we relate to each other.
Humans are the most developed and influential factors of all of nature's levels: still, vegetative, animate and human. Since we occupy the highest level in nature, positively affecting the environment, the climate, and nature in general can be achieved by reaching positive relations among us. On the contrary, by letting our divisive drives tear apart human relations, we also destroy our surrounding environment, the very nature that our lives depend on.
The more we humans are able to correct ourselves by changing our divisive attitudes toward each other into positive attitudes of mutual support, encouragement, mutual responsibility, and reciprocal concern, the more we will receive positive feedback from nature. And the more we develop without making this necessary correction, the more negative feedback we will receive from nature, as we have experienced in the form of natural disasters, pandemics.
It is of utmost importance for us to organize our thoughts, desires and qualities so that we understand that saving the environment and a shift to a better future depend solely on changing our attitudes to each other: from antagonistic egoism to positive, compassionate and cooperative relationships.

I totally disagree. None of this is caused by "climate change". It is all still within the normal variation of the weather. There have been hurricanes as strong and even stronger than this in the last 100 years. Sanibel and Captiva used to be one island. A hurricane split them in two. This storm was not strong enough to do that.

NHC also on that same Monday Night didn't forecast it to rapid intensification. It was giving a category 2 at landfall.
